Stormy Weather Pattern Thursday Through Memorial Day Weekend - CBS42 News @ 10pmAdded:
Want to get a check of our forecast here at home tonight. Day big weekend coming up, Memorial Day weekend. You've got rain in the forecast. Yeah, starting tonight and going to be on and off tomorrow. A lot more rain is a good Friday into Memorial Day weekend. So, be prepared for anything going on from the SEC baseball tournament in town. Also to any plans you might have. Notice the cloud cover thickening up here in Hoover from our higher Regency camera here. Uh no rain at the moment. 78° out there with some calm winds, but the dew point in the middle 60s. It's pretty muggy out there right now. We're looking at some few showers just to the west of Birmingham. Also near Columbiana on I-65 to your north. Some rain temperatures there in the lower 70s. Alabaster area much of Shelby County here getting some pretty good rain and more going into Bibb County near the Brent area. You'll see the big cluster we're watching here has been drifting north from Hillsdale, Columbiana, Joiner Town, East Saginaw toward Chelsea, Pelham, Alabaster, Brantleyville area and points down to Montevallo and Wilton. This cluster of rain as it continues to move in is drifting its way farther to the north here and uh we'll show you that as it continues on that northward track. We'll eventually start building its way closer to the metro area. So, uh with that in mind, we'll give it a little track here and show you that they're moving at about 20 mph roughly. Uh so, from the storms near Brantleyville heading up toward Sims Valley and points to the south near Chelsea. As it goes north here and coming on into Birmingham, uh we will see them moving on in toward Pelham at the moment. Now Helena 10:24, Chelsea 10:26, the Green Park there around 10:27, Lee Branch around 10:33.
This does include over toward the Hoover area. It will get closer between 10:30 and 11:00. So, be watching for that as we get toward the Hoover Met area.
Farther to the north, you can see some of that rain headed toward Sumiton area as well. Hanceville couple showers nearby for you and heading up toward Arab, Guntersville. Some more rain continuing to build that way as well.
Now, as the showers build to the north, they'll gradually they'll die out overnight tonight, but they're still holding their own. We haven't seen a ton of rain out there today and the outflow boundaries from some of these that skinny green lines. We'll likely see some new storms developing near Tuscaloosa area over the next hour as well, too. All part of our front that's kind of stalling over the area. Plus, we have an upper-level high sitting in the north part of the Gulf. Between that, bringing in moisture from the Gulf, and moisture coming in from the Pacific from the southwest, this southwest flow pattern is going to bring us rain. So, for the SEC baseball tournament tomorrow, low chance in the morning here, but once we get to the afternoon hours, about a 40% chance. And again, remember game one now for tomorrow, which is game nine, uh stayed and uh Georgia is now going to be at noon, and the Alabama game will be at 3:30 p.m. as we head into Thursday time frame. Now, more rain, better coverage and chance of rain Friday, also into Sunday, so we'll be watching for that with temperatures in the middle 80s. High threat for heavy rain and lightning with any storms that do develop. Future cast does show again that rain continuing through 11:00 tonight before giving tapering off to a couple of showers by tomorrow morning.
By the afternoon hours tomorrow, we will see a few more storms developing here, but the coverage not quite really as great as what we could see till maybe later after those games are done, of course. And then Friday, we start dry.
Look at this, we'll start seeing more of those storms in the afternoon into the evening hours there. A lot of heavy rain potentially for Friday into early Saturday morning. Existing potentially 2 to 4 inches of rain across the area. For your Memorial Day weekend, more of those scattered storms, and it continues stormy next week with highs in the middle 80s. And that's looking at your 10-day forecast.
