This video offers a precise, data-driven approach to livestock health that effectively bridges the gap between veterinary science and practical homesteading. It serves as a vital reminder that successful animal husbandry requires attention to specific nutritional metrics rather than just general care.

Why are my goats BALD? (The short)Added:
This is what copper deficiency looks like in goats. Take a look at this ear, prime example.
Not a lot of hair there. She's kind of bald on her ears right now. And then also, if we look at her nose here, her nose is balding a little bit. It's been a little while since we've had a copper bolus. So, she just got hers the other day, and usually takes a few weeks to see improvement. You'll You'll see it. What I came in here for was to show you Galena.
Galena had her copper bolus, and she's looking so much better. I think I particularly was showing you her ears.
And now they're all fuzzy again. No more bald ears. You can see her white hairs have grown back in.
Give the goats loose minerals free choice. They can have as much as they want. Um when the Sweetlix is not available, when it's sold out, I will buy an alternative. Either one is good for your goats to have a copper supplement, and I'll tell you why I like the Sweetlix better. Let's look specifically at the copper. The copper minimum is 1,750 parts per million. The copper in the Country Roads, it's 200.
So, it's really lacking in comparison to the Sweetlix.
In addition to offering the goats free choice minerals all the time, occasionally we get copper deficient, and we'll need to give a copper bolus.
This is a bolus gun. You put a copper pill in the end of this here, and then this goes down the goat's throat, and you depress it, releasing the pill.
Additionally, I have this probios here.
This is a probiotic. I call it goat yogurt. I put a little blob on the end of the pill that I put in here, so that when I give the goats their bolus, it just kind of acts as almost a lubricant to get it to go down a little bit better. Um I'm going to put my hands right here in the back of her mouth.
There's no teeth there, so I can open her mouth pretty easily.
I got to get this over her tongue to the back and deposit that pill.
That's the best way to get that down.
Some people feed this to their goats in in treats.
I'm not here to argue with anybody about how they do it, but it goes in the right place in the rumen when you give it to them via the bolus, and it will disperse all those little teeny tiny copper rods that are inside there, and it'll act as a slow release.
What a turd. The bolus is still there.
It didn't go down.
I'm going to do this a second time.
Okay, it's down that time.
