[00:00:00]The southwest monsoon, occurring from June to September, is characterized by hot land causing air to rise. Moist winds move from the sea to the land, bringing heavy rain to much of India.

[00:00:11]The northeast monsoon, from November to December, involves winds moving from land to sea. However, along the east coast, such as Tamil Nadu, these winds pick up moisture from the Bay of Bengal, resulting in rain. Snow consists of ice crystals that form when the temperature is below freezing. These crystals aggregate and fall to the ground. Hail consists of hard ice balls. They are formed by strong up and down winds circulating within tall storm clouds.
