Dressing up a grievance about missing LEGO sets in the language of narrative theory is a peak display of intellectual pretension. Itโs an over-analytical review that mistakes toy marketing for a failure in artistic integrity.

Daredevil Born Again Season 2 & Punisher Special SPOILER Review - Ya... We're Not Getting LEGO SetsAdded:
Hello there everyone, Ashen Flash here and welcome on into my spoiler review for Daredevil Born Again season 2 and the new Marvel television special presentation, The Punisher: One Last Kill. I was super busy last week with all of the videos, 13 videos in like 4 days or whatever it was craziness with all the new reveals. And I was just like, you know what? Let's just talk about Daredevil when the Punisher special airs and combine them into one.
So, if you want, there are time codes and chapters down below if you want to hop around to the different sections of this video if you just want to hear about one thing and not the other. So, non-spoilers for Daredevil season 2. I think that I'd really recommend giving it a watch if you've seen season 1. If you've watched the Netflix stuff, I feel like they have done a really good job of growing these characters. I I think that it's amazing to be getting this yearly.
Like, it is insane that they're filming season 3 right now. It reminds me so much of like that era of the Netflix shows of just them constantly filming and looking at the set photos and like oh man it was just a special time and to be back at that here that was really cool. Um and I know that the set photos and stuff definitely spoiled certain things in this but overall I think that the season again was pretty good. The performances in here some people gave I think some of their best performances they've done yet. I think that there were a lot of useless characters in here and there's just a lot of people in this already that I'm a little concerned about season 3 because some people just didn't do much and serve any purpose.
And I think I said this in the last review for season 1 that I felt like the finale had me more excited about the future than what like actually happened in that episode. So anyways, let's uh let's go ahead and and talk about that.
So overall, I think that like I look back at this season now having, you know, reflected on this now for a week since it ended last week and I'm like, what are some of the highlights and things that stick out in my head, you know? I think that the suit is a a very big highlight for me. I think having the double D's on the chest is so cool. I I just love that we're getting that comic book uh use there. And also just the fact that it was like actually served a purpose like to be the sign of the resistance and everything against Fisk I thought was uh was pretty neat in terms of Matt and uh where he's at. I think it was good to see him and Karen like fully in this relationship and I thought that was very sweet. Even their moments up to the finale I thought was great. Um I think that as well. Speaking of relationships, Fisk and Vanessa's I think was just amazing. specifically Vincent Denafhrio I think gives just such an incredible performance that I think is Emmy uh nominee worthy if not awardwinning because I I just that that bit in the hospital was was just amazing like I I just remember like watching that and just just so sad for this horrible person and he just was so believable like it was just such an incredible performance. Just just astounding. And uh I think that the episode before that as well was a lot of fun uh with the boxing match and everything. And I think the action in this like I look back at this I'm like I really like this. Like the swordman fight I thought was really really cool breaking everybody out of the cells and all that. I think that the other fight that we had with Bullseye in the diner was just that was probably the the best fight that we had. I thought that was great. his fight with Fisk, him kneing him in the face, that was so cool. And then obviously in the final episode, that kingpin hallway scene was just insane. Boo. Like that just I I love that. It was so unexpected and out of nowhere, just him tearing through just a bunch of like normies was just crazy.
And intercutting that I thought was really well done with like Daredevil and Jessica and White Tiger in the hall. I thought that was that was really well done. But uh yeah, I I mean I don't have much more to say about the story of this. I mean I guess I can talk about Daniel. I thought that was uh a very good character arc and sad to see him get killed and his relationship with Buck. I I think that it made sense for him to die. I know a lot of people are sort of drawing connections to the penguin here and all that. I definitely see that. Um, but speaking of Buck, him and uh Helen uh Heather, Heather, it was Heather uh was interesting. I'm intrigued to see where she's gonna go obviously with her turning into Muse and everything. Um if you want to see some set photos and stuff, they are out there. But uh yeah, I thought she did a good job. I thought that her like interrogating Karen and the swordsman and everything was quite interesting.
Um, in terms of the the finale, the the legality of it all, I thought that was Yeah, I don't know. I I don't know. I would love like I haven't watched like lawyers or anything break it down, but just the testimonials through the TV screen and all that. I know that they were like fighting against that in the actual court, but then even Matt just claiming to be Daredevil and then just throwing a stick. Is that enough to prove that he's actually the witness to back up, you know, that video and all that? So, I I I don't know. Again, not a lawyer or anything. It just felt very convenient, everything, how that all fell into place. I did like the idea that he uh gave up his identity as a witness for Daredevil. But, uh I think there somebody said something of like having Danny Rand walk into the courtroom with the cowl on. They've done that in the comics. Or I think even Matt walking in testifying as Daredevil would have been. I don't I just think that there was a lot of different ways that that could have gone. Um, but you know, it was good. I just wish that his identity was a secret because there's not very many secret identities in the MCU. And the fact that that's gone now for really, especially in the Defender, the only one that cared, that's kind of sad personally, but uh I I think that the ending with Fisk as well. I don't know. Again, convenient. I feel like I wanted there to be a fight or something instead of just him sort of surrendering with Matt and then going like you'll understand if I don't shake your hand or whatever he said. I I don't know. But I will say like somebody pointed out that it's so much worse for him than being in prison. Like having him locked up. He thrived in prison. We saw that happen versus him being alone on that beach standing there. That is so much worse there. He's left the city that he loves.
So, I thought that was really interesting. Um, in terms of like the wasted characters here, there's so many characters that it's just crazy to me like Jessica Jones was promoted as such a big part of the season and she did just nothing. I love Jessica Jones. I love that first season. I think she's great in Defenders. That's what saddens me here is that she was so flip-floppy.
Like, she would pull up in that first episode and be like, "Sorry, Matt. I can't help you. Next episode she she's like, "Hey, I'm here to help." Next episode she's like, "Matt, I can't help you." Next episode, she's here. She's here to help. And it's just like, what is going on here? Like, it was so annoying. I It was just as fluctuating as her powers, you know, cuz she gave birth or whatever. I don't know. I I think that was strange as well. Just like why isn't she just strong? Like it just served no purpose besides sometimes making her weak when she was fighting like the anti- vigilante task force. So, I don't know. I thought that uh the the one cop uh Cole or whatever it was just his turn made very little sense to me that oh, now you believe the wife and the niece's testimony of Yeah, he didn't kill any cops. Like, they said that the whole time. He said that during the trial. He didn't kill any cops. Like, why flip now? That was strange. Cherry did nothing. like he just was there that one episode and then pretty much disappeared for the rest of the season, showed up a few times. Hey Jessica, I like your work blah blah blah. Like it just like what purpose were any of these people serving here? Probably the worst offender though was Brett Mahoney who was there for two se three scenes I maybe it's two but yeah just being in the precinct there like he literally broke the law of breaking Karen out wouldn't it have been easier to help just unlock the back door so that Matt can come visit her in the cell like you know what I mean like it was just weird and then he was just there in the final episode like he didn't even like put the handcuffs on Fisk or anything like there was a lot that I feel like they could have done with him and and it was just he was just there. You know what else was so strange? Kirsten really great character.
I I wish we had more scenes with her and I liked all the stuff that she did with the different trials with swordsman and then also with Karen. Um but specifically like the whole time throughout the show she's like where's Matt? Is Matt okay? Where is Matt? Then all of a sudden, like when he reveals himself, you could see that she kind of figures it out beforehand that like he's Daredevil. He's going to reveal that he's Daredevil. Like what they were uh ramping up to, you would think that there would be some scene or something showing like her being upset with Matt being like, "Why didn't you tell me?" Or like, "Where have you been?" Like the whole time showing how much she cares about Matt, constantly asking and worried about him. And then he just comes back, nothing. And then he reveals that he's Daredevil. Nothing. And it's just like, did they cut scenes out? Very weird. And that's what I mean. There's just too many characters in the show to handle. And that's what has me worried about season 3 when you're adding in all these extra characters here. Like that is really concerning when you're bringing back the Defenders.
Like there's a lot that's gone unanswered and we have questions and I hope we get those answers. Uh, I would give anything for Spider-Man to be involved with these people, by the way.
And if he had shown up, that would have been insane and having him fight Kingpin. And I just I'm sad that we may not get that now. But speaking of unanswered questions, Punisher is special. Uh, I guess non-spoilers for this. I I just that was so nothing. That was just it was it was nothing. It was rushed. It was just It didn't feel like The Punisher. Like I just didn't understand what was happening. I don't understand how that was New York. I I just it was very weird to me. Uh like I was just squinting at the screen for a lot of this in confusion of like where is this? What's going on? Like without going into specifics, if you like the Daredevil stuff and you know the Punisher show and then Born Again, like I just think that this is confusing. uh to say the least. But jump into spoilers. I really thought that they would have explained or shown like him breaking out of like Fisk's cages and everything like that just has gone unanswered and I really thought that would have been addressed in season 2 of Daredevil. I thought then okay, you're releasing this right after the show ends. I just don't get what was going on here with Frank. Like he was just so unhinged and crazy. And I think that they just did that so that John Bernthal can give an incredible performance, which he always does, but it just didn't make sense for Frank. Like he's just never really been quite like this. Like I know he's had some lows and everything and he's imagine seeing his wife and his kids and stuff like that, but never to this extreme. And I guess you could say he's this unhinged because he's served his purpose. Like his mission's complete and that's why he wants to end it all.
But it just doesn't feel like Frank, especially with who we just saw in Born Again season 1. Also with him, I really just thought that there would have been more stuff with like Curtis. Like we saw the set photos and everything and it was just like a ghost or same with Karen popping up here for a second. So I thought that was strange. In terms of where this takes place, Little Sicily, as far as I can tell, I've tried to look it up. It's not a real place in New York. It does not exist in the Marvel comics or anything like that. There's Little Italy um which I think is what this is supposed to be, but uh it felt like Gotham. Like it was just insanity where these people are just walking around in broad daylight like committing all these crimes. Like how is nobody stopping them? Why isn't Frank stopping them in the first place? There there's a long list of like things you could go through and be like why is this even happening? Like I know a lot of times for the Marvel movies when things were happening it's like why didn't you call the Avengers? This is literally in New York. So why isn't Captain America stopping this? His Avengers team? Why isn't Yolena and her Avengers team stopping this? Why isn't Spider-Man stopping this? Daredevil stopping this.
Heck, even Fisk, I don't think would let this stand in his city. Like that is insanity here. Like that just didn't feel like New York. It felt like the purge was happening during the day. It's strange to me how again Frank Castle has found somebody who has connections to his family that uh that uh had them killed or or some ties to them, had to get revenge, blah blah blah or justice or however you want to call it. But yeah, so then he takes them out, left the mother alive, but now I don't know if she was a before or whatever the case is. I I don't think her performance was very good supposedly as well. Just the audio was really bad. I had headphones on. I didn't have any problems, but my friends told me they couldn't hear anything. I'm seeing it all over Twitter, so I don't know what's up with that. I promise I'm not just saying this cuz it's also going viral, but I did a double take with that CGI.
That's rough. So, uh, the theory going around right now is that they released an unfinished version with bad audio and bad CGI, which hopefully that is the case. Yeah, the story of it, I think, was cool in terms of having him locked in this apartment building. I appreciated that. I thought that was that was very cool. felt like a video game just uh I think there was too many gun jams personally but uh the different levels to the apartment building it was fun. It felt like the Last of Us or something just going on this killing spree of very very violent. Um the coolest thing I think was the axe bit how uh he had the one person land on the axe. I was like oh that was that was quite well choreographed. I would have just loved for him to be wearing the Punisher outfit throughout that whole scene. like it just it just would have added something to this. And the fact that we saw him wear it for like 10 seconds and it was already in the trailers just that disappoints me so so much. In terms of like good writing, I think my favorite part about this was the connection about uh the baker to the book that he reads. I think to his daughter. I thought that was really cool how that related to that one line from the story. Other than that, like it just it was just nothing. Like if this was like a backdoor pilot in Daredevil for a new Punisher show, I think that would be exciting. It just it feels incomplete.
Like that lady got away. Will we ever see her? Like where like what's next?
Like we see that he's obviously in Spider-Man. He can't be going around doing all this in Spider-Man in a PG-13 film. I bet anything like there's 0% chance he's going to be unhinged like this. like seeing people and everything in Spider-Man Lego talk. They're both TVMA. It's It's just not happening, unfortunately. I I think that especially with the Punisher special, like that is not helping things at all. It's not helping our case of getting a Punisher uh set for Spider-Man. I'd love his van.
I think that would be amazing. I just have very little hopes about that now, especially after this, that it just might turn Lego completely off. I know people are going to say, "Well, Ekko got a minifigure."
I don't think Lego knew it was TVMA there. There's no way they knew that.
Like, that's just pretty clear. That's why that happened. I'd love a Daredevil suit minifigure. Like, that is so cool with the Black. I really need a Kingpin big figure. I think that uh these characters go beyond them being uh R-rated and mature in these shows and that uh they can have a set that isn't that dark. And I think people would go nuts for a comic book version of Bullseye as well. Anyways though, what do you think of uh these two shows? Do you have any ideas for maybe some Lego sets or where you'd like to see these characters go in the future? Be sure to subscribe, turn on the bell notification so you don't miss out on future uh Marvel spoiler reviews. I do have a playlist. I'll link it here at the end if you want to check out my other videos. But I hope you guys did enjoy the video. Hope you all have a great day. I will see you all in the next one.
