The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the process to restore additional state constituencies in Kogi State, a move described by Governor Usman Ododo as both historic and necessary for fair political participation. This restoration exercise involves extensive field work, data verification, and consultations to ensure accuracy, fairness, and compliance with legal provisions. The initiative aims to correct long-standing gaps in representation, promote equity, strengthen inclusion, and boost public confidence in the electoral system. Stakeholders emphasize that fair representation is central to democracy, with previously excluded communities now set to have stronger voices in governance. The current arrangement of federal and state constituencies in Kogi State reveals significant disparities, with some federal constituencies already at or near the upper constitutional threshold.

INEC Begins Process To Restore Additional State Constituencies In Kogi State本站添加:
And now to political matters, uh democracy watchers in Kogi State say a new chapter may be opening in political inclusion as the Independent National Electoral Commission begins moves to restore additional state constituencies in the state. Governor Usman Ododo described the development as both historic and necessary for fair participation. Matthew Akpobots.
At the center of discussions at this gathering is an institutional step aimed at correcting long-standing gaps in representation.
INEC officials say the exercise will involve extensive field work, data verification, and broad consultations to ensure accuracy, fairness, and compliance with legal provisions. This same month, INEC is proceeding with the phase three of the continuous voter registration. Very soon, after primaries, we'll go into campaign. And this is one of the matter that we are discussing is at the heart of all of this electoral process. Constituencies are meant not only to promote political interests, but also to bring government closer to the people.
Now, we have come to Kogi State to see how we can implement the judgments of the courts.
For Governor Usman Ododo, the restoration exercise is not just administrative, but a constitutional and moral duty to promote equity, strengthen inclusion, and boost public confidence.
We need more progress. We need more development. And of course, we are here to give you the needed support. We are all family. You can see the Kogi we all pray for is gradually coming to be. A state where all of us will agree to pick a seat at the table to look at our problem jointly and provide joint solution to it.
Stakeholders insist that fair representation is central to democracy with previously excluded communities now set to have stronger voices better reflected in governance. Present arrangement of federal constituency and state constituency in Kogi state reveal significant disparities.
Some federal constituencies already at or near the upper constitutional threshold. He says we already have 35 on ground and one is an issue. That one that is an issue come from my area which is between the Kina township and Enjema.
It is a matter a knee-house matter that we'll go back home and clean. Observers say the planned restoration of constituencies following court's pronouncements also marks a critical step towards deepening grassroots participation in future elections across Kogi state.
