[00:00:00]What was the Battle of Gaugamela? In 331 BC, Alexander the Great marched deep into the Achaemenid Empire. King Darius the Third assembled a vast army leveling a massive plane in Mesopotamia to allow his side chariots to operate without hindrance against the Macedonian invaders. He marched his right wing outwards drawing the Persian cavalry away from their center [music] to prevent his army from being outflanked. This movement opened up a gap in the Persian lines. Alexander personally led his companion cavalry in a wedge formation directly into the breach targeting the Persian king himself. Darius fled causing his army to collapse and securing Alexander's conquest of his empire.
