The Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ is One Seriously Cool Period Race Car

[00:00:00]One of the most exciting driving experiences I've ever had.

[00:00:05]This is a 1964 Alfa Romeo TZ Zagato.

[00:00:11]Only around 100 of these were built with an ultra lightweight and a very focused driving experience and a design that a lot of people think makes it look like a baby version of the iconic Ferrari 250 GTO. These very rarely come up for sale, but you can buy this one on Cars and Bids, courtesy of the famed Peterson Museum. It was the tube frame in part that helped this car reach a curb weight of less than 1,500 lb. It's an unbelievably light car. You can see the car is sort of sloping into the back and then it just stops. This is a design principle called the Kota Trunka, which means short tail. And basically what was discovered was that unless your car had an incredibly long tail, then your aerodynamics weren't actually benefited from any sort of flowy tail design in back. So you might as well just chop it off at the back.
