This video demonstrates systematic power testing of the .308 Tex Rex air rifle using lightweight bullets ranging from 65 to 133 grains, revealing that the rifle produces consistent energy output (242-308 ft-lbs) across different bullet weights while maintaining excellent velocity consistency, with the 65 grain bullet achieving 242 ft-lbs and heavier bullets (110-133 grains) producing nearly 300 ft-lbs, though lighter bullets may expand excessively on impact making them better suited for small game rather than deer hunting.

308 Tex Rex Light Weight Ammo TestingAdded:
Okay guys, now it's indoor shooting again.
I always like doing my power testing inside so I'm not outside getting sunstroke and you know colon cancer and all that other stuff from the sun's rays.
So what I am doing we're back to the.308 Texan Rex. Okay, I don't call it the.30 cal I call it the.308 because the Texan Rex.308 is the only true.30 cal air rifle USA.
All the other.30s are like.303 and under which I've always told you is that just wussed out British.30 cal.
So.308 original 7.62 America. So we are going to do lightweight bullets.
Last time we did the midweight bullet at the 155 up to the 205. Now we're going to do like a 90ish grain up to a 133. And again this the indoor stuff is getting numbers getting the you know foot-pounds the BC that type of info.
And then once we get that set up then we go outside to 50 75 100 yards and then see how accurate they group. Because at 15 yards indoors everything's wonderful.
It's the outdoors that tells the difference. That's how you're doing the wheat from the chaff.
So Yahoo AirForce USA.308 Texan excuse Yeah, well Texan.308 Texan Rex.
And that's what we're going to start playing with. And who knows? We'll see what happens. Um I'm curious to see how this setup likes the lightweight bullets because on the other Tex Rexes, the 45 and the 50, I haven't had great success with the lighter bullets. Those are tanks. Those like the big beefy manwich size bullets.
Uh but I know the 308, being tighter, smaller, more aerodynamic, has a little bit something hidden there. So, we're going to delve into that and see what we find out. So, again, indoors is not the most exciting. It's just me shooting and jotting down numbers.
But hang in there cuz you'll find something out by the end of the video.
So, we'll come back at you in a bit.
So, now with the 30 38 Now with the 308 Tex Rex, we're going to do some lighter slugs. We did the medium-weight earlier. Now we're going to do some lighter stuff. So, I got a 65, a 90-ish, 125, got a 96, 110, and 133. Not all of these uh are 100% as in offered, but you know, when I'm doing testing, I'm trying for different weights to see what works, what what I like, what I don't like, and then try to cut a new mold based on an idea. Uh that's kind of how this stuff works. It's always flying by the seat of your pants. And uh I do not have a sugar fixation. That's cream cheese cinnamon roll. I swear I'm sharing that with somebody else. Hey, little mouth, what about me?
So, let's get some shooting done. Okay, all you good-looking guys out there in hollow point land.
We've got our.308 Tex Rack set up.
We got 1 2 3 4 5 6 different weights we're going to shoot at the old paper target down there.
Got the old FX chronograph here set up.
It's pretty simple. I like it a lot.
And uh uh we're going to start making our numbers.
Five and you see me doing this a lot because I'm jotting all my info down and then we go from there.
And check out, you know, if we're going to get valve lock on these lighter stuff. This rifle is still set up as factory, so it's got the factory the first valve screw in it that it comes with and power dial still a set, I believe, at like three. I haven't touched anything. Um it was pretty good the way it was with the uh medium to heavy weight, so we'll see how that setting works with the lighter stuff.
Uh the battery is in.
So, the scope is still on.
Um we just have to see how it is cuz I think we had it set up for 50 yards uh for the for the pig hunt before I got sick.
Um So, we'll see how she does here at the 15-yard mark.
But, like I said, indoor videos are just about numbers and developing you know, getting all the information we need to figure out what we're going to do and what we like. So, let's do some shooting.
Headgear as always because this is unsuppressed.
And we'll take it from there.
Wow.
Over 1,300 ft a second.
Wow.
>> Okay.
Eight shots from 45 to 3,000.
So, that did not use a lot of air.
Um the third shot was the fastest, so we were getting just a little bit of valve lock, but 315, 318, 327, that's not a lot of valve lock. So, maybe 4,400 or 4,300 on this little 65 grainer.
Man, that's moving.
Uh that's going to be interesting to see what it does on the next one up. Um question is is how accurate is that going to be at like 55, 60, 75, 85 yards cuz it's such a lightweight little tiny bullet. But, that would explode on impact, I have a feeling. Let's get some more air in it, and we'll keep going.
So, I've got my two tanks hooked up through the booster pump.
We're about 4,200 PSI in the two tanks.
So, we're just going to boost it one or two times.
And that puts us right at 4,500 actually with one with one stroke. So, we're good. We're good.
>> [music] >> All eight bullets over 1,100 ft a second.
Okay, so this is the 133 grain.
I'm trying to show you without it blurring how much of the body is sticking out.
Okay, you see that? There's the the full length bullet.
And you can see how much is sticking out. All right, that is totally fine.
The bullet is snug, flat in the tray, snug it forwards just till it's tight.
That's all you need. You don't need to bury it all the way flush.
Now, the shorter bullets are going in flush.
I'll show those to you in a second.
I don't know if you can see that, but that's the 65 grain.
And And that baby's in there flush.
Because of the length of the slug, how far how much of it goes in before it hits the lands and grooves.
So, certain bullets will go in flush. The longer ones will not. And that's totally fine. So, don't be freaking out thinking you got the wrong slug.
Okay, so this is the results from shooting the ballistic gel.
Um you can see the little 65 basically blew up on contact. Um the 96 did pretty good. The 110, 125, 133 they all were 10 to 12 in in the block except for Peewee here. Um So, they do got some good penetration.
You can see they just just mushroom back to to next to nothing. I mean, just uh just perfect. Um So, uh deer season wise, this 125 usually is the most popular. That's the one that most guys shoot with with a standard. Um and then the 155 is the next You know, I like the 155 cuz I always like a little more weight, but uh again, this is out of the Tex Rex. These are just screaming compared to the standard.308 Texan.
Um unbelievable increase in jump.
And it's all factory.
Okay, Charlie Chan chuckleheads.
So, we finished the indoor power testing with the lightweight slugs uh for the.308 Tex Rex.
And I'm pretty impressed. Again, the true test is at 50, 75, 100 yards?
But the numbers are really sweet. This uh these lightweight slugs, this is almost like it's regulated. Um very, very, very close spread between bullets. I don't know if that's referred to as standard deviation or uh uh deviated septum. I'm not quite sure. But in general uh the 65 grain and I'll put the chart here in the video for you.
The 65 grain, the lightest one 242 foot pound average. I did a eight-shot string, okay? Just because I could. So, I started at 45 ended at about 3,031.
Um the first two or three shots, I was getting a little bit of valve lock, but it's so minor. Um you know, like a few feet a second, you know, 13, 15 13, 18 13, 27, you know, and then 13, 14 12, 95, you know, see so you got your peak of your bell curve. So, you know, 13, 15 to 13, 18, 3 feet a second to me is is just nothing. It's It's almost there. So, I'm not worrying about that. It's the bigger bullets where that first shots might be a couple inches low, but these light ones are screaming so fast, it's Again, 15 yards is not a difference. So, 65 grain for 242 foot pound average.
The 90 500 grainish solid I'm playing with 292 foot pound average. I mean, 292 foot pounds is almost 300. That's really screaming. Um the 96 grain hollow point 287 foot pound average.
The 110, again, these bullets are really close together in weight, but they do have different body designs.
Uh the 110 a 298. Again, almost 300 foot pound average.
So the 125. Now, that's now we're getting into the heavier side here. The 125 grain a 308 foot pound of energy average.
And then the 133, which is the biggest, that's where I stopped. The 133 is 303 foot pounds. So we've got three slugs here that are almost 300 foot pounds.
287 292, 298 right off the bat. And then as soon as you get above like 115 grain, 116 grain, you're already into 300 plus.
So we got some great numbers here.
I'm curious to see what those light ones are going to do at like the longer distance.
Definitely a that 65 grain, if we can keep it tight, that's definitely a quality coyote bullet for sure.
The 65 grains isn't a lot of weight, so I would never put that into a deer.
That's just too tiny. Um in the ballistic gel as I showed you that um you can see that that 65 just blew up on impact. Now, granted, ballistic gel is a lot harder than the squishy body cavity of a raccoon. But still, you can see that thing just boom on impact.
Could be a quality gopher slug. Again, if we can keep it tight.
Uh but they all did decent. Of course, the heavier ones, the 125 and the 133, are more of a deer bullet.
Getting, you know, full penetration, mushrooming is normal. The lighter ones, some of those really were just bow.
So, it's amazing on what this thing can do. And the settings are the same. I have not touched any of the settings.
So, the valve screw that it came with is still the valve screw.
The power dial is still set at, I think, the 3 and 1/2 or 4-ish.
Oh, I'm sorry. I take that back. The power dial I've got set almost to five.
So, I got the power dial maxed out.
Um you know, my mistake on that.
Um I'll have to re-edit that. So, the power dial is close to five.
Um so, it's really humping it. Um if I reduce the power dial back to three three-ish, the spread would probably be even tighter because now slowing things down, but the spread's probably going to be even tighter. But again, I'm always looking for that Viagra punch, you know, right in the pie hole.
So, that I think does it. Uh we've chronographed uh six different weights. We shot ballistic gel. Um we found out there's a little bit of a a a you know, valve lock, you know, in the in the bell curve. Um I think we've tested everything we can test indoors. So, this is part of the you know, mad scientist part of getting all this, so then when you get outside, you have a better understanding on your numbers and what she's going to do. Again, I have to thank AirForce for sending this out. You guys rock and roll. You rule. Um if I ever uh become a hermit, I'll be living in a crawl space under the stairwell at AirForce. So, thank you folks. Any questions about any of this, feel free to hit me up. Uh emails are what I prefer most. You can always text me, but if you text me, please tell me who you are and not just some short "Hey, what's your best bullet?"
I don't know. That's a loaded question.
What gun are you shooting? What animal you trying to kill? How far are you normally shooting? There is no "What's your best bullet?"
So, anything else, you know, pricing and all that, hit up AirForce. Um anything about bullets, hit up me.
And the next thing I have to think about is you getting a nice wood stock on this or possibly putting a suppressor on it. I'm not sure, but you know what? It's not the.308. It's not that loud in general. I mean, it's not backyard friendly, that's for sure, but it's not as loud as like the.45 or the.50 cal, for sure.
So, gentlemen, again, another boring out of the box video here. Thank you for watching.
Remember, screw do pause and do a screen grab for the bullet chart, so it gives you some form of reference. So, that's it. That's what we got to say.
Have a great weekend, people.
All right, fellas.
I just got this in the mail today.
This is from Waddell Wildlife Creations.
And this is so cool, guys.
Custom leather bottle wrap ammo holder.
That is sweet.
That's uh Oh, it's even got Mr. Hollow Point etched on this.
Check this out, gentlemen. Check this out.
Look at that.
Mr. Hollow Point, yeah.
Looking good.
Mhm.
Now I look like a cool bow-legged old man.
Yes, sir.
1 2 3 4 5 6 6 slots for slugs. This is awesome. This is awesome.
All right, gentlemen. Most excellent. I love these add-ons you can get, and this is really cool.
I have the information here in the video. Woo! AirForce Texan.
