Railway infrastructure, including locomotives, stations, and rail yards, serves as distinctive geographical markers that can help identify specific locations worldwide. Different countries have unique railway systems, train designs, and operational characteristics that reflect their regional geography, infrastructure development, and transportation networks. By analyzing visual elements such as train colors, station architecture, surrounding landscape, and railway company logos, one can make educated guesses about a location's country and region. This challenge demonstrates how railway geography provides clues for geographical identification across diverse global locations.

Can we locate these Trains around the World? | GeoGuessr Challenge | World of Trains #5Added:
Hello, welcome back to the channel.
Today we're back on GeoGuessr. We're going to be playing this map called I like trains. Do you like trains? I guess you do if you're watching this video or maybe you just like GeoGuessr. Today we're combining both. We're looking at trains and we're playing GeoGuessr.
Um each round starts looking at a train or train inside, let's just say.
And we're doing it as a challenge so you can play along as well if you do want to. And uh we're doing it as a 1-minute timer. We're keeping it on move but we're doing it as a 1-minute timer. Um actually no, let's do no move, 1-minute timer. That should be quite fun. That could be a bit of jeopardy involved in this. But um we're all we're all for the trains in this one. It's all about the trains. I think something a bit different on this Well, when I'm recording it, a very hot day. It's about What is it? 30°?
No, that's a lie. It's 23. Feels hotter but anyway, it doesn't matter. Let's get straight on with this. I like trains.
Challenge link will be down in the description. We'll do it as a 10-round game. Let's do this.
Here we go. Right, this is the Netherlands, definitely.
This is one of their sprinter services.
I mean, it could be anywhere in the Netherlands, couldn't it really?
Do we know where?
I don't think I'm going to get a station name from this.
But at least we're going to get the country right. Ah, De Vest. Hmm.
Okay, not too sure where that is but that is a pretty cool-looking start.
That is probably the thumbnail, isn't it? To be fair, that's [music] uh something along those lines anyway. 30 seconds to guess. De Vest.
So, does that mean the fork or something? De Vest. Cuz I feel like I feel like FC Twente stadium is called De Vest or something. So, and that's over in um uh where are we?
Enschede over Not Zwolle, is it? Zwolle.
No, let's go let's go for around here though. Ah, that's fine by me. I'm fine with it.
Uh I should have got more populated, shouldn't I? Should have got more populated. It's in Leiden. Oh, it's on this main line that comes down through here from Amsterdam down to uh The Hague. Yeah. Bit along this line, actually. Oh, it's De anyway.
Ignore all that stuff about De Vest.
I don't even know if that's true. What weird sort of fact that is. But, there we go. We were at De station. Uh just outside of Leiden in the Netherlands. Very nice start.
Good.
Good. Good. Good. Ooh. It's a like a Stadler Flirt, I think that's called.
Absolutely no clue where this would be.
It's obviously it feels European, doesn't it?
That's a that's a definite. But, train-wise, don't recognize the colors of this this transport company or this train company, I must admit.
Green and blue.
I mean, green I mean, this is giving me um I can't think of the country. It's got got a bit of Estonia vibes. Just because of the black, blue, white, but then it's got green.
Could be Poland. I know that's not the colors of the flag, but it could be, couldn't it? Romania?
Somewhere like that.
Yeah, not too sure. It's definitely going to be in Europe here.
I think I'm going to go for Let's go in Poland. Let's go over here.
That'll do.
Near the Baltics.
Ah, I was thinking of Finland. Okay, we weren't a million miles away. When I said when I said the Baltics, >> [snorts] >> it wasn't far off, was it? It was a Baltic state. We didn't go for a Baltic state. We went for Poland. I went for Białystok.
Białystok. I don't know how you say that.
But, it's actually on the edge of Helsinki in a place called um that place.
Kittilä.
Kittilä.
Basically north of Vantaa and Helsinki.
There we go. Next round.
That wasn't the best, was it? That wasn't the best.
Okay, this could be the Netherlands again.
Although company-wise not too sure.
Borne, that says there. This looks like a branded train like as in like a maybe an open access operator.
It's definitely the Netherlands again though, just by the signs and stuff.
Yeah, Hengelo Twickel Zentrum.
Hengelo in the Netherlands.
Uh Hengelo I I feel like I've been to Hengelo. It's on the It's on this side over here.
I saw I went through it once.
No.
Can't see it. Oh, there.
Okay, Borne. There it is. There it is.
There it is. There it is. There it is.
Okay, we might get this bang on or near enough bang on anyway.
Yeah, I'm quite happy with that. Let's do it.
Ooh, 60 yards is very lenient. Wrong area but right location.
Borne there on the east side of the Netherlands, very close to the German border in Hengelo or just outside of Hengelo in a place called Borne.
Two Netherlands rounds, very good. Very fruitful in the Netherlands for trains it seems. There we go. Next round then.
Ooh, this one looks different.
KFC over there.
Okay, so you got like these tut-tuts.
We got this sign here.
Is this I feel like this is Indian language because you've got like the English writing as well.
But it could be I guess it could be Sri Lankan. It's quite curly. And they also speak English as well.
Yeah, I mean Sri Lanka would make more sense cuz the trains don't look Yeah, the trains look like that. Uh What's that? What's What's LK though?
Okay.
Not too sure. Not too sure. Let's just go in here.
That'll do.
Oh my god, it was It was right.
We went actually on the railway station as well, which is which is weird, but it wasn't there. It was down on Wow, it was on the coast. I didn't even notice the water. Was I thick?
You can answer. Uh Wellawatta Definitely not how you pronounce that.
Or just over the river.
Kiriwela the Kuruwita Pannala Canal in Colombo in Sri Lanka. Nice little guess there.
Nice little guess. Next round.
Okay, this is a European country for sure.
Um language-wise, yeah.
Definitely definitely Ooh, this is interesting place. This This reminds me of like I want to say sort of these sort of areas over here.
Maybe Serbia, Bosnia, Romania.
ZSSK Cargo I should know what that is really, shouldn't I?
Nice train though. Nice train. It's this place up here that I can't quite Zom- Zomborock Is that say?
Don't know really.
Not too sure, but very nice looking place. This sort of landscape definitely reminds me of these sort of areas here.
Oh, I didn't guess.
Of course it was Slovakia. Literally of course it was Slovakia.
>> [music] >> It was in a place called Ružomberok.
There we go.
That was on the sign as well, wasn't it?
I didn't get any points. I missed it.
I forgot I had the 1-minute timer.
Well, that's a waste of time, isn't it?
Woah! So, it's Legoland.
Well, that's cool.
Where is this?
Yeah, it looks like Legoland.
But, it doesn't feel like somewhere I've ever noticed before. I don't know where this would be. Where do they have Legolands?
The trees and stuff look quite tropical, don't they?
Wow. I never know what I'd say a Lego train.
It's made up for the last round, I reckon.
Um, I think they have quite a few Legolands, don't they? Is there a Legoland in in Asia?
Could this be Asia with these trees?
This feels Asian, doesn't it? Don't know why. Well, let's actually guess this time. Is it one in Malaysia?
I think there is.
I'm going to go to Kuala Lumpur and just hope there's a Legoland there.
There was. It was actually down here though, Johor Bahru.
Near Singapore.
Yeah, Legoland Malaysia. What What's the chances of that I should get that guess right though.
Well, that's made up for the zero points in Slovakia, isn't it? Well, it hasn't, has it? At all, but anyway.
Mov- moving on. This is the US or Mexico.
Actually, it could be.
Although, these sort of box car things look very US.
Yeah.
No, it's Spanish. So, it's definitely on the border or is it Mexico?
Does that say Mazatlán?
Mazatlán. I think it does.
I could well believe it's there.
I could well believe it's there. Uh that's on the uh west coast [music] here. Yeah, Mazatlán. There we go. We're going here. Let's just just go in here.
We might as well. Let's just assume we're there.
Um we're looking southwest. Yeah, I think let's go for it.
It was Mazatlán.
But it was a different bridge. We lost eight points, but I'm fine with that. I actually don't even know if that's how you say it. Mazat Mazatlán?
Mazatlán.
Just don't Don't even comment about that.
Don't even comment about the pronunciation of that.
That was a cool one, though. We were in the right location. I feel like that's made up for the zero points to Slovakia.
Let's be fair.
Zero points to Slovakia. That's going to haunt me next next round.
This is the US, I think, this time.
It's very American.
Okay.
But again, though, definitely Spanish-speaking there, right?
This could be like down in California.
This could be Mexico again. I'll be honest with you.
Yeah, I mean, is this not National Railway of Mexico?
Ferromex. Yeah, I mean, this is Mexico again, isn't it?
Okay. This is weird. Two Mexico rounds in a row.
But no idea where we would be. Let's um play it a bit safer here. Let's go for I don't know what I mean by safer. None of this is safe, is it? Do we go for up here? In Tijuana?
Or do we Yeah, I'm going to go I'm just going to keep it there. I'm happy with that.
You know, reme- remember 30 seconds ago I said play it safe.
Well, I didn't, did I? I went for the most northwest area of Mexico.
What an idiot.
We were in Culiachi Culiacan in uh in Mexico, of course. We lost so many points.
1992 was our score. Brilliant.
Cheers.
Next round.
Slovakia doesn't seem that bad now, does it?
Twente Netherlands. Okay.
I think I'll be [music] able to pinpoint roughly where this is.
Yeah, so the Remember what I said about FC Twente earlier? That's where the location is, right?
Enschede. [music] Enschede.
Down here.
So, this is this is this area.
Obviously, I'm not going to get this bang on because I don't know which station this is, but let's just go for Let's Yeah, let's just say we're like down here.
Maybe.
Mhm.
Looking west along this railway line.
Yeah, I mean, it could be this.
Could be this, couldn't it?
Let's go for that.
Yeah, right location. I'll take it. It was actually Hengelo again. Hengelo Glaner Spoor.
Wow. Okay.
Hang on, I went over the border into Germany there, didn't I? I actually guessed the wrong country.
What a loser. [music] I didn't notice the German border there.
Oops.
Weirdly, I got the right location, but the wrong country.
This has been an absolute shambles. I'm very I'm very sorry. This has been an appalling show. Just had to [music] reset it there. I've lost a lot of time.
Um ÖBB, that is Austrian national railway company.
Austrian Bundesbahnen.
Postbus.
Hear me out here. This could be Slovenia.
I could potentially feel like this is Slovenia. This feels Slovenian, Postojna. I kind of have an idea of where this might be, weirdly.
I think it could be up here.
Oh, it's not that, is it?
Okay, wrong idea, I think, whatever I've done.
Oh, it was way further in Slovenia. I was right country this time. It was Postojna.
On that main line that goes down to the coast, isn't it?
Yeah, well, there we go. We end on an okay score in the end.
37,926.
Is that good?
9 minutes 25, so we basically took the whole amount of allotted time.
I mean, not particularly brilliant, but some of those guesses I think were quite good.
There we go. We'll look at the breakdown. Nice. Okay. Well, ignore the Slovakia round, which is zero. Weirdly, I'm going [music] to Slovakia soon, which is the weirdest part.
Um yeah, we got an okay score across the board, I'd say. One perfect score in 10 rounds is not particularly brilliant, though, is it? But there we go. I think we'll leave the video there for today.
Okay, so that was a little bit of a failure in some rounds, but other rounds I thought we did pretty well with. So, do let me know how you did if you took on the challenge. You can't win them all, can you? You can't win them all.
Sometimes you have a great round, other times you do not. [music] But that was fine. I didn't mind it at all.
Hope you all enjoyed that one. Nice adventure across, well, the world, really, wasn't it?
Um let me know if you got the Slovakia one, cuz I certainly didn't, even though I should have just clicked in the Balkans somewhere. Anyway, we'll leave the video there for today. Thank you all so much for watching. It's been an absolute pleasure, as always. I will catch you on another video. Take care now and goodbye.
