Midrand By-Law Enforcement Operation Shuts Down Illegal Guest House and Demolishes Structures

[00:00:00]Today's operation is actually a multi-disciplinary operation with the purpose of complying to the city's bylaws.

[00:00:08]The first property we were at Carlswald is a property that was expropriated.

[00:00:13]>> [music] >> The area is actually a road reserve.

[00:00:15]That particular property you saw there is sitting on a road reserve. It should have been demolished years back, but that has never happened. We have been on site. People that are there have voluntarily started demolishing [music] their shacks.

[00:00:30]We're going back now. But in the second location that we were in Moholo Luxury Hotel, this particular facility owes us about 1.3 million rand in terms of rates and taxes.

[00:00:45]But then in the most important thing is that they are not complying to the city's regulations. From our sense of they don't have any building plans that have been submitted to the urban planning.

[00:00:58]The emergency services colleagues have never received any form of applications from their end for for them to consider.

[00:01:06]So we are now closing the facility through EMS regulations. They've been told to cease operations with immediate effect. But from our end we also indicate that we are more than willing to assist [music] them to go through the approval process that is internally there in the city. But because of non-compliance to the regulations of the city we have imposed rates penalties in this particular property. [music] It has about 22 rooms that are utilized for accommodation.

[00:01:36]They have a conference facility [music] as well.

[00:01:40]But all of this particular infrastructure, none of it is actually approved. The land that we are looking at they are sitting on a property of about 10,000 square meters.

[00:01:49]And the portion that they are occupying now, none of the infrastructure that they put has actually have no uh plans that were given to us as as the city.
