Within 2 months, the United States had ordered him killed. Lumumba was 35 years [music] old. A self-taught political leader who stood before his nation on Independence Day and said directly to the Belgian king sitting in the room that colonialism was humiliation. That it was over.

Before the CIA could act, Belgian intelligence helped [music] his political rivals arrest him. He was beaten during his arrest. Beaten on the plane. Beaten on arrival.
