Confusion Over Bizarre Incident in Lokoja

[00:00:00]Recently, a disturbing incident involving a young man occurred in Lokoja. Eyewitnesses were left confused over whether the incident was drug-induced, mentally related, or spiritually influenced. Solomon Adebayo reports. This presented from our studio.

[00:00:22]It was around 4:00 p.m. in Lokoja, a time when many workers were returning home after the day's activities.

[00:00:29]At the busy junction roundabout, commuters, commercial motorcycle riders, and passersby gathered at nearby food spots as business continued as usual.

[00:00:39]Suddenly, the atmosphere changed.

[00:00:42]A young man, believed to be in his early 30s, appeared carrying a large stone.

[00:00:47]Without warning, he began hitting himself repeatedly on the head.

[00:00:51]The disturbing scene immediately drew attention from people around the area.

[00:00:55]About 20 minutes later, however, the man regained consciousness. He slowly stood up, mumbling words that sounded like a song.

[00:01:04]His sudden recovery caused panic among some of the crowd, with several people running for safety.

[00:01:10]Suddenly, the man removed his shoe and put it to one side.

[00:01:14]And hold his hold his shoe like this.

[00:01:17]Start to shout, After shouting, when everybody turned, we now saw him hitting his head with the stone several times. Later, I got weak.

[00:01:29]The man now fell down.

[00:01:31]As he fell down, blood was now coming out of his head. But the man did not act violently. Instead, he calmly asked for directions to the nearest hospital before walking away and disappearing into the crowd.

[00:01:44]The incident has since sparked different reactions among residents.

[00:01:48]While some linked the behavior to possible drug abuse, others suggested it may have been a deliberate act aimed at attracting public attention.

[00:01:57]There were also those who attributed it to spiritual causes.

[00:02:01]Medical experts, however, warned against jumping to conclusions.

[00:02:05]Incidentally, um is my client.

[00:02:10]I think after that incident, of course, he sustained injuries, something laceration of the skull, and he was rushed to this facility.

[00:02:22]This particular client in case actually was the use of substances. The substance he abused is called is the popular one called colos.

[00:02:33]Colos is specially dangerous because it's a mixture of many things. He is uh fairly okay now. The effect of the substance has uh worn off.

[00:02:45]I have had a section with him and his mother.

[00:02:49]He's in good spirit now. He's motivated to change. Beyond the incident itself, questions have also been raised about the reactions of bystanders.

[00:02:59]Rather than seeking immediate help for the man, many were seen recording the scene on their mobile phones.

[00:03:05]The incident highlights the growing need for greater public awareness about mental health and the importance of showing compassion during emergencies.
