Now, what we're seeing these days is that people are requesting some lesson videos with their purchase, which is a beautiful concept and I'm more than happy to do that. Aaron requested some tihais in or unique tihais in different tals. So, what I'm going to show you guys today is going to be an intermediate level tihai for Dadra, two of them, and then how to apply that same tihai to Rupak Tal. So, let's start with Dadra. So, this is the tihai we're going to be learning.
So, Dadra is a count of six beats. We're using a Ektal Lehra right now, but Dha Dha Tin Na Na Na Din Na. 1 2 3 4 5 6.
Dha Dha Tin Na Na Na Din Na. And the phrase we're going to be using is Dha Ti Dha Gi Ti Na Ki Na Dha.
And this is how it's going to be.

>> [music] >> All right. So, what we have going here is um a normal tihai in Dadra would sound like this.
Where each phrase takes up two beats cuz remember Dadra's composed of six. So, 1 2 3 4 5 6 and then Dha. For example, Dha Dha Tin Na Na Na Din Na. Dha Ti Dha Gi Ti Na Ki Na Dha Ti Dha Gi Ti Na Ki Na Dha Ti Dha Gi Ti Na Ki Na Dha Dha Tin Na. the traditional way to play it. If this is confusing you, let's look at it like this. Let's take a phrase that everyone should know so 1 2 3 4 5 6 easy right simple.
So all we're doing instead of you can completely change the phrase as you like actually but instead of for the purpose of this video today we're doing it again and again or again and again.
>> [music] >> Right you can choose as you uh wish. Now in the context of >> [music] >> That's the easier way to do it.
When you started after the six after the full cycle that I did but the T I used was not that if you notice I started from five because what did we do that's different we introduced a at the end of each phrase so it has that T I complete feel.
>> [music] >> There's no spaces in between so it goes 1 2 3 4 5 right instead of instead of and then it's and then that I did it again and again and again and again and again and again and again.
So it's a little bit more complicated but we started after five this is what it does.
>> [music] >> Such a beautiful piece if you if you use this in a dadra song, such a beautiful uh uh tihaai. Now, as I mentioned, if that's too difficult for you, you can simply do it You just remove the da and repeat dadidagidinagina or dadidagidinagina three times and then go into the next cycle.
>> [music] >> All right. Now, the tihaai that we're focusing on >> [music] >> we can use that exact same tihaai in rupak tal, which is sounds like this.
>> [music] [music] >> So, how does this work? Rupak, as you know, has seven beats, right? Um di di na di na na di na na seven. And if we use this tihaai, dadidagidinagina dadidagidinagina dadidagidinagina, it fills it up perfectly. So, how did it work for dadra? Because if you remember, this specific tihaai we used one beat before. So, there's six beats in dadra, but we started it after the five. So, we essentially made it seven beats. da da ti na na na din na da da ti na na na din dadidagidinagina dadidagidinagina dadidagidinagina da da ti na And same with rupak.
di di na di na na di na na dadidagidinagina dadidagidinagina dadidagidinagina >> [music] [music] [music] >> Right? And the beauty of this is that once you understand the breakdown of the time signature, you can replace dadidagidinagina with anything else.
>> [music] >> Right, so I hope this helps. The concept is the most important thing to understand. Once you get the phrasing down da di da gi di na and again, if you are at a simpler level in your tabla journey, you can replace any of what I'm saying with da da di gi da. Da di da gi di na da da di gi da. They take up the same time signature.
