In NBA draft strategy, teams must balance selecting the best available player with addressing specific roster needs, particularly when operating within a limited competitive window; the Golden State Warriors, with an aging core of Steph Curry (38), Jimmy Butler (37), and Draymond Green (36), face a critical decision at the 11th pick between taking a high-upside prospect like Nate Ament or a plug-and-play wing like Yaxel Lindborg who can contribute immediately while building for the 2027-2029 competitive window.

The Golden State Warriors Should Draft This Player! Warriors NBA Draft CoverageAdded:
Who should the Warriors take with the 11th pick in this year's NBA draft? I got that answer coming up.
>> You are Locked On Warriors, your daily Golden State Warriors podcast.
>> What are they going to say now?
>> Part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day.
All right. How we feeling everyone?
Welcome to the Lockdown Warriors, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. My name is Chuck Walter on the program today. We're going to get into the 11th pick. Why it feels like it's a flip a coin type situation. There are a lot of guys that I do like. There are a few guys that I do not like. I'm going to explain who those players are.
One consensus on who the Warriors should take. Do we have one at this point? I think I have the dude. I can potentially talk myself out of it in the next 10 minutes, but I think I have my dude. Do you have your dude that the Warriors should take at number 11? Will that switch? And then in terms of need versus just best available player, what do you think is more important? Best player left on the board. The Warriors need to draft some sort of a wing. I'll tell you what, Anthony Slater was on with uh Ryan Rsilo on Rascilo's podcast and it really made it seem like the Warriors are waving the white flag on any big moves.
LeBron James was brought up. Now, if that's a mid-level exception, I don't know how big of a move that is, but with his talent, it's clearly an impact move.
That's for sure. But in terms of like big dollar moves, big trade returns, doesn't sound like Giannis is going to happen. It doesn't seem like there are any likely scenarios out there that the Warriors are going to explore. Sounds like, hey, we're just going to be as competitive as we can, keep our draft pick, draft our draft pick, and go from there. Giannis is going to happen the next few weeks, though. We'll see. I talked about it on yesterday's show, how OKC seems to make a lot of sense. It's like the Warriors situation 10 years later where the Warriors blow the 3-1 lead to the Cavs. They lose and then they go out in the offseason and have the luxury to get Kevin Durant. Now, it was 3-2 for the Thunder, but a lot of parallels there. Replace Harrison Barnes with Chad Holgrren and maybe they use Homegrren as a part of that deal to bring back Giannis to OKC. For for my sake and and for a lot of Warriors fans sakes, I hope that does not happen. But I would have to imagine that if OKC wants to make that call, they will have as good of a package as anyone because they got AJ Mitchell that they can throw in there. They have plenty of players that can make the salary work. They got Sorber or Topic if they want to really get into the weeds of some of their project guys. And then they have all the draft capital including some picks this year. Mike Dunley though is not in an easy spot right now. I would not want to be Mike Dunley. Honestly, if I was Mike Dunley in this current situation, I'd probably be asking co-pilot. I'd be asking Chat GPT. I'd be like, "What do we do? Here's the situation. Here's what my roster looks like. Here's the money breakdown. Please help me out, Chat GPT." And then it would say something along the lines of extend Kaminga. And you'd be like, "God, Chat GPT, why?" It seriously does that. But I actually asked ChatGpt what the Warriors should do in this situation because it is confusing and there's a lot of different avenues they can take and Chad GPT went about as conservative as possible. It said quote, "You're not a true contender today. Your core is Steph at 38, Jimmy Butler at 37, and Draymond at 36. That means you're in a two-year bridge window. You compete if things break right, but you should be building the next core now. Don't chase a fake title run. Don't tank either. Build a roster that can be competitive in 2027. Now, the biggest thing that has to happen this off season is, and maybe not the biggest when it's all said and done, but on paper right now, the biggest thing that's to come is a decision on Chris Dav Porzingis, whether he returns or whether the Warriors say, "You know what? We're good. We're good now.
LeBron, we don't have Chris Daps Porzingis. We have whoever we drafted to take his place because I don't know if it's going to be Quinton Post and if it's Quinton Post and Al Horford as your only two options like we went into last season, you're in trouble to a certain degree, but you've got the bird rights to Chris Davs Porzingis. That means you can pretty much pay them whatever you want. there are penalties that come along with it and it'll make it tougher to get any sort of talent around them, but that's not going to be the issue. Uh the injury history is bad. We all know about the pots. Still productive when healthy though. 1920 points per game last season. It was more like 16 last season, but for his career, 1920. Uh AI says the smart move is to resign Porzingis on a short tradable contract.
two years, 15 million per year, no options in there because you can't replace his talent. You preserve the trade flexibility and you avoid being stuck when he inevitably misses games because you have a way to get out of that contract. Whether you attach something to it or whether you throw some picks on it, whatever it may be, Porzingis is not your future. He is a tradable mid-tier asset for the Dubs.
Man, Golden State right now, like again, it's just such a precarious situation because when you have Steph on your team, you you can't really go the opposite way. Like, we'll do this experiment coming up on 11th pick, but you kind of have to take someone that is at least semi ready to go. You can't go with a fullblown project. I'm trying to think of someone that's been drafted in the last few years that came out just as a fullblown project and uh nothing's coming to mind this second. But that's what you can't do. And a lot of times those projects don't even pan out in the first place.
But a Jaden acquaintance, that's not going to do anything for your team right now. It may not do anything for the team in 2027. And that's the year you should be looking at right now. The window from 27 to 29. one of those three years you want to get back to competitive. And this year, frankly, if everything breaks right, you want to at least cap yourself at like the five or the six. You're not going to be the one, two, three, or four, but maybe you can sneak into that five and we can have a fun season. Now, who should the Warriors take with the 11th overall pick in this year's draft?
It will be the first time Golden State is selected this high since they took Kaminga at seven years ago.
They took Pajimsky with the 19th pick.
The last time they had a top 20 selection as of right now. It's about the best they could have done with that pick. And that's Dun Levy's bread and butter right now is is that pick and a few months of the Jimmy Butler trade.
Aside from that, he has not been tasked with much. It's been kind of let's run this thing back over and over. We've had a similar iteration of the Warriors dating back to really 2023 for the most part. A lot of very familiar faces. They pulled the plug on Cavon Looney last year based on how his season went New Orleans. Very smart decision to not give him the the kind of money that he was commanding in the offseason. So again, another check mark for Mike. You can't get on Dunley too much because of the lack of decisions that he could have made in this position. But again, Jimmy Butler, it's proved at this point to be an unwise decision all things considered. And again, when that trade was made, it was always going to be the extension. If it was just an expiring contract that they traded for and they got rid of Andrew Wiggins and got off his contract in the process and a bunch of expiring dudes like Lindy Waters and Kyle Anderson and one first round draft pick that ended up being Casperis, you're in an all right position there, but the issue was always Jimmy Butler wanted a ton of money and he wanted two extra seasons in the Bay Area and it had an opportunity to backfire. It had an opportunity to be a beautiful move and for about a full year, not even a full year, but close to a full year from February when he was acquired to, I believe, January when he was hurt, maybe in February, it was about a full year, it was a beautiful selection, a beautiful trade. Now, however, doesn't look as great as Jimmy Butler is seemingly untradable.
Jimmy Butler is recovering from an ACL injury and we have no idea when Jimmy Butler will return and how productive he will be when he is back for the Dubs. At the very least though, it is an expiring contract and it's not something like Anthony Davis has, you know, with a couple years and all the injuries that he's piled up. Ideal targets at number 11. I will give you my selection and I want to hear from you. Who do you got the Warriors taking number 11? Let's debate that coming up. Unlocked on Dubs.
>> And buddy, stop trying to dribble the ball.
>> I really have to change that one. Uh, there are certain flavors that instantly feel like summer. And for a lot of people, those classic red, white, and blue freezer pops are right at the top of the list. Sweet cherry, lime, blue raspberry. Oh, it's one of those nostalgic summer flavors everyone recognizes. Now 5-hour energy has recognized it. They're bringing the flavor combination to the new firework freeze. 5hour energy shot. It blends sweet cherry, zesty lime, and electric blue raspberry into one refreshing shot inspired by those iconic summer freezer pops. My favorite thing about the the freezer pops back in the day, chasing the ice cream trucks down the street, buying a 99 cent popsicle. Those are probably $4.50 now. And it was always those red, white, and blue. They had so many different names. Call them whatever you want, but uh they were always like the Astrop Pops in our neighborhood. That is uh the Everyday Club brought to you by the Locked On Network. Not looking at your comments yet. I'm going to get into those in just a minute. With the 11th pick in the NBA draft, I teased it.
Adam Silver walks up there and says, "With the 11th pick in the NBA draft, the Golden War Golden State Warriors select, I have no idea. Truly, I mean, flip a coin, ask Chat GPT again. There are players that I I don't want and players that kind of give me the concerns, but when it comes to like who the Warriors should draft, I don't think there's one player that you can 100% point to. Now, a lot of it's going to be what happens at 8, nine, and 10. I think one through seven is pretty safe. I don't think Muel Brown is going to drop to where he's going to be a possibility. If Bur is there and he's got that Steve Kerr Arizona tie and he's got that Derek White comp and we all know Steve Kerr loves Derek White maybe he becomes an interesting name but once we get to 11 depending on who is there there's probably three or four names that I feel equally about at this point and I need to be talked into one selection one way or the other. Now I'm a Yaxelibore lean right now and a Cameron Caran. Those are my two guys that I'm looking at specifically.
But I did ask Chat GPT or co-pilot rather and said, "Give it to me." And you know who they came up with? They came up with Nate Ament, the 610 wing from Tennessee who is considered a perfect Warriors archetype, the Shawn Livingstons of the past and all those 610 dudes that could handle the rock and were high IQ and connective tissue and could pass the rock. That's what Nate Aement is. very high IQ basketball player that has size and perimeter skill. You squint hard enough, you can see like that Kevin Durant, maybe Jabari Smith, one of those guys that's huge that can play along the perimeter.
Unfortunately, you don't have to squint.
You can just open your eyes like this and stare directly at him and what you see is Zack Reese, who is trending towards being a bust for the Atlanta Hawks right now. And because of that, I think it scares a lot of fans. And I think it frankly probably scares some front offices that are scouting right now. They watch his game and watch him move and they're like, "We just saw this guy go number one a few years back. Yes, he has the measurables, but he's shooting 39% at the collegiate level.
He's 33% from three. He's wiry thin. And yes, he's a future two-way player. and he's a best fit pick according to the artificial intelligence and the highest Warriors upside player. But what are we talking about here? This is where we need to figure out the direction that the Warriors actually want to take.
Because if you're talking about highest upside player and someone that's not ready to ball from day one, like Aean, you you watch him play, I don't think there's a chance in hell that he comes to the league polished and ready to go.
If he gave you what Zach Reese gave you in his rookie year, I would be stunned, frankly. He's he's young, he's raw, he's got a ways to go, but there's a ton of talent.
And he he moves off the ball really well, which you know, the Warriors like.
Has really good court awareness, reads opposing defenses and finds his spaces, finds his spots. He could shoot it, cuts. Uh good playmaker. Again, a good passer for his size out of both the post and in pick and roll actions, whether he's the roll man, whether he's pick and pop. Uh has good natural instincts off the ball, gets in the passing lanes, is usually in the right spot defensively.
So again, a lot of things that you hear there like basketball intelligence combined with perfect modern size for a forward, the ability to be a high upside shooter. Like there's a reason why he's a highly touted prospect, but 39% and 33% from three at the University of Tennessee, albeit as a very young player, it's not exactly screaming, let's bring him in and try to compete now, which was the notion for the longest time. We've heard for a minute now with Steph Curry, you're not just going to punt on a season. You're still going to try to bring in someone that's ready to go. And Nate Aean may be one of the highest upside players in this draft with that 610 size. I do not think that he's the guy that the Golden State Warriors go with despite what artificial intelligence is trying to tell me. Now Braden Burries, he's an interesting case study right now because I asked the question to you all. Do the Warriors draft the best available player or do they have a need in mind? I think you got to draft a wing personally. uh that we've seen with San Antonio, this this league is one with big wings. It's one having two-way versatility and the roster lacks any sort of size, athleticism, and speed on the perimeter.
So, I think you got to look at some form of a wing. And not only that, the draft is before free agency begins.
I think you take that wing and then there are a lot more guards to choose from in this year's free agency class. I feel like I mean we've mentioned Simons and Ston and go up and down the list of players that I think could be available.
Uh Quinton Grimes like there are guys that you can nab for $15 $15. You get 15 bucks Quinton Grimes. Enjoy. It's not even going to get you a meal at Original Joe's. 15 million that'll get you many eggplant parmesans. Shout out Original Joe's. Sandler was there the other day.
He was making a pit stop in the Bay Area. Anyone know why was he in town for a movie? I was actually supposed to go to Original Joe's that night and the buddy, shout out Dan Thorne over at uh Kron, he sent me a picture and he said, "Dude, we we were supposed to be with Sandler tonight." He's wearing gym shorts, of course. Uh Salsbury is actually a friend of mine and he he says that Sandler whenever he goes to New York just finds random pickup games any court he can find and then he'll go to like cocktail hour afterwards and shacks and an gym shorts and that shirt that you know has some mama joke on it or whatever. You know how and one was back in the day.
Anyways, weaving back into traffic. How did I get into Adam Sandler and Original Joe's? $15 million. That's right. There are players in free agency that I think you can pick up that uh are capable guards, not only this year, but maybe three years, 50 million, three years 46 million. If it's Simons, if it's Sexton, if it's Grimes, and you got one of those three guys on that sort of a deal. I don't think you'd be mad. I don't think you'd be that mad if you took a gamble and a vet minimum on like Cam Thomas.
You're like, "No one wants Cam Thomas.
We'll give him a cup of coffee and see if he can do anything for the Warriors.
We'll we'll have him as our microwave scorer off the bench because we need this type of player that can just put the ball in the basket. We'll put him on the floor with Draymond and uh he'll help he'll help solidify the defense when when Cam Thomas is out there. But the 11th pick, I want to hear from you.
That's coming up on Locked on Warriors.
We're going to get into the comments.
Leave who you believe the Warriors should take and why they should take them. I'm going to run this down. You're going to be a part of the program coming up. But I got more on Yakel Lindborg, who is most likely I don't think I've talked myself out of it. I think he is the pick with number 11 if he is to be there. And I've seen in a few mock drafts that he's the guy at 11. I've seen Lopez as the guy at 11. And I've seen Braden Burries as the guy at 11.
Those are the three dudes that I've mainly seen. Who will they take?
The countdown is on. This is Locked on Warriors.

>> Who can stop Steph Curry?
>> Hopefully, we'll never find out.
So there are like six or seven names that are very consistently around the 10 to 15 spot that the Warriors are going to be drafting in. So I think we've heard all the names at this point that the Dubs could be in on. Now, every once in a while there's a player that just sneaks in there and maybe it's that dude from Stanford that's nice or um there there are a few guys that may sneak into the conversation, but for the most part you would think it's like Lindaborg, it's Kareem Lopez, it's Braden Burries, it's Cameron Carr, it's Leberon Phylon, it's uh I guess Hana Steinbach or Adai Mara and that's like it. There aren't Nate Aean. There aren't many other players that project to be available and project to be a player that the Warriors would be targeting seriously in that spot. Now, Steinbach and Mara, those are two interesting guys for their I mean Mara for his ability to just be a connective hub down low. Like it's funny cuz both those two are compared to the Sabonises. Like Steinbach's compared to Damontis and Arvdus is compared to Ada Mara and Mara is just that huge body down low. We've seen in the modernday NBA that it can work. Like Edy and Klingan can clearly play in this league and to die projects to do the same. He's slowooted. Who knows how he's going to look when he's switched onto the perimeter, but in terms of having a huge body that can pass it, you can get it to him on the rock, he can on the block, he can score the rock. You like all those things about him. Hana Steinbach is like I think there's a cap to a Daimara. Like I think he can be a solid NBA player.
Like I look at Cllingan and Edy and I think they're going to be solid NBA players, but I don't see some superstar ceiling. Steinbach's different. He's got some game to him. who knows how it's going to transfer over to the NBA, but he is a ball hawk when it comes to grabbing rebounds. He's good in the pick and pop game. Can put the ball in the deck, can jam with the best of them, an intense competitor. He's from Germany, maybe got a little derk to his game or something along those lines, but he's he's slept on to a certain degree and he's gone anywhere in Mox from 9 to like 20.
Will he be there at 11? Will the Warriors be interested?
I say draft a wing first and foremost.
Uh Kareem Lopez is an international wing. He's 6'8, connective passer and scorer. Feels very warriors in the fact that he's high IQ. He's a ball movement system fit. Defensively he projects to be pretty good and he's just kind of good at everything.
One of those like I I was talking about it with Kolski a few weeks back like Jokic on paper he was kind of like that, right? He was good at everything, but I there there's a reason why he slipped. And that reason is simply, yeah, he's not great at anything aside from like feel for the game and IQ, and he's got good touch.
And those are the things that Kareem Lopez has, like feel for the game, good touch, good strength, um, high IQ.
Maybe he's one of those dudes. I just don't know enough about him to where he frankly terrifies me. If Lopez is that pick, I think he's the scariest dude in the entire draft in the top 20, I'd say to select in my opinion. Now, could be big time boomer bust, but I I see some Ge Santos in him to a certain degree, and you already have Ge Santos to where I don't know if you want to replicate that. His shooting doesn't appear to be anything special. That's something that is going to be a swing skill of his and he's really gonna have to figure out a shot. He wants to be really good in this league, but he's a 68 versatile wing that is smart. So, we'll see. Uh Braden Burries if he slips scoring guard shot creation two-way dude actually has a little bit of pajim comparisons with a lot more bounce but he's kind of that jack of all trades guard that uh again Derek White we'll see if if that's your plan. Um is a solid combo guard though.
So I don't know I CBS is going with Yaxel Liborg and that's who I am too.
like he's compared to Aaron Gordon and how many times have we said that Steve Kerr wanted Kaminga to play that way.
Kaminga's gone and now you have the opportunity to bring in his replacement.
It would be Yakel, different type of player than Kaminga, but gives you that same size, elite athleticism, huge strength. He's awesome. Now, going back to JK, I I talked about how important it is to stockpile assets for the Warriors. And if they are to let Chris Daps Porzingis walk, if he's a part of the the two-year future and you get him two years, 30 million at 15 a year, okay, I I can handle that. We'll cross our fingers and we'll see what happens. That's not going to kill you. That contract is is not going to take you down. And that trade is yet to be seen on whether it was decent or terrible.
If they let Chris Porzingis walk entirely, it makes me go back to the trade offer that they had on the table the summer prior that was Devin Carter, that was Saritch, and that was that first round pick. I mean, at that point, you probably should have just cut ties and taken that first round pick and continued to stockpile assets any way that you could. I get what they were doing. They tried to make it work. It worked for a minute and then it didn't work. But it'd be nice to have a first round pick. Protected and all. It'd be nice to have a complimentary first round pick that you were offered at some point.
Yaxel or Cameron Carr. Those are my two picks.
Now, now Cameron Carr is 6'6. He's being compared a little bit to Trey Murphy right now, who obviously he's been connected to the Warriors quite a bit.
Very good modern scoring ability. uh spaces the floor extremely well for his size, just glides. He he kind of reminds me of forever warrior Kevin Knox. And Kevin Knox, don't forget, he was selected above Shay Gilas Alexander. He was supposed to be the truth. Never had it. Had some skills, never put all the pieces together, but that's kind of who Cameron Carr reminds me of. Maybe not as big as Knox, but he's also quicker than Knox. And he's an elite offball scorer.
So, he he can play with Steph right away. Plug and play. Consistently knocks down hard shots, deep threes off the catch, off screens, reliable pullup, can glide to the bucket with that freakish athleticism, a 42 inch max vertical.
He's an explosive athlete, active rebounder, very good weak side rim protection for a wing, has good physical tools. Now, his weaknesses are his handle, still has to shore up his onball creation with his handle and uh defensive consistency. Still needs some work there. And then obviously his slender frame at 185 pounds, he needs to add on some strength.
What scares me, excuse me, what scares me a little bit is uh Rick Barnes basically saying that he just like walked out of Tennessee and was like, I'm out. Peace. I don't know about his level of maturity. That's for the Warriors scouting department to figure out. No speculation there. Uh you just wonder when you see a guy that comps to like male Bridges and you see the upside that he has, you wonder why he's projected to be there at 11. um and maybe even slip as far as like 15 or 16 in this year's draft. I give Mike Dunlivy and the Warriors the green light to take this guy if they do their homework prior and he is someone that's going to put in the work and that loves the game. I love his game and his dad, by the way, runner up to Kobe Bryant in the uh the dunk contest back in the day.
So, you got to like Cameron Carr's game.
Uh his dad Chris Carr the number 56 pick in the 95 draft. So Carr averaged 19 and five at Baylor and again he's a very portable athletic big wing. But Yakel I believe is my pick at this point. I think he's the most plug-andplay player out there. I do not believe that he has peaked like some seem to think. When you get guys this old, my mind immediately goes to Tyler Hanssbro, someone that dominated at the collegiate level. And then, you know, you wondered why he slipped to late first round or mid-first round, whatever, and then you saw why.
Sometimes scouts do know what they're doing. Sometimes they don't, though. And Yakel at number 11 seems to be kind of the common consensus. He's got great size, strength, athleticism. The age is the big question mark. The shot is the big swing skill, but he can get downhill. He can score. He can defend.
He's very versatile. And you talk about a lineup with potentially Curry Pods, Lindborg, Jimmy Butler, and what, Chris Porzingis, whatever. There's a lot to like there. There are some lineups that you can throw him in. having Ghee as your first man off the bench or Yaxel as your first man off the bench. Like there is a lot to like about having that sort of size and experience frankly join your team and uh really be able to plug and play from day one. All right, now to you 63 comments to go through. Let's see who did that one say. Oh no, from Seals Amit seems like the biggest bust potential. I kind of agree. I would say Acquaintance is that guy that screams bust to me because he's got so much raw talent but just no um no clear offensive bag at the next level like he's all just tenacity is Jaden Quaintance to where he's got a little Rob Williams to his game and he scares me a bit. Aement though biggest bust potential but maybe biggest boom potential too. Kareem Lopez is a question mark. He could be really good or bust. That's everyone at the at this pick level. Like even Yaxel has a question mark to a certain degree how his skill set's going to translate over.
I don't think there's anyone that's like I think Bur's that's why I've said if he's there at 11 maybe you just take him. I think he's going to be good. I think he's going to be a solid NBA player for a long time. And everyone else I don't know. Carr very intriguing.
Steinbach very intriguing. Mara I I think he's going to be good. I I think he projects to be that Edy clinging guy like I've been saying, but L43 says it best. We need someone who can win now.
Maybe not win now this season, but we definitely need someone that can in Steph Curry's final year of his contract, assuming that he does extend for a year or two more, you want someone that can be ready then. And it may be the 24 year old that clearly is the uh the most ready player in this draft at that position in the draft. I would say because there are some guys in the top three that may be more ready. But uh Jaimu says trade two future first round picks for this year's pick. Then draft Yakel, Phylon, and Carr. Get Baba Miller in the second round and you're set for the future.
So, you're saying trade what 2028 and 2030, something along those lines, first round pick for I mean, I guess you would do it with OKC. You would say, "Hey, OKC, here's some assets down the road.
Let's get your assets now. You got to find room for Topic and Sorber and all these guys on your team anyway. So, why don't you just give us those picks and here are some picks down the road?"
Okay, if you can do that, Yakel, Phylon, Carr. I like all three of those, frankly. I don't know if that's a possibility, but you'll see. Uh, Young West, if Yaxel's there, that's who they're drafting. I'm kind of a Yakane at this point. I said I may talk myself in the car by the end of the show. I think Yakel may be the most rockolid guy there because we want big bodies. We want big bodies. Yakel makes Dreundant.
Okay. Easy way to fix that. Trade Draymond Green. Why does it have to be so crazy? Find a way to make this team make sense whether Draymond Green goes elsewhere or not. We got a Daim Mara. We got Brain Burries is literally a slightly more athletic pods. If Pods is staying then no to Burries, fair enough.
But you got to make a decision on pods soon. like the team is shifting a lot by the summer of 2027 to where if this is just kind of a gap year, you take the best player available and if that's buries, it is Bur. So, we will see.
