Effective global health security requires sustained international cooperation and transparent communication, as demonstrated by the 2018 Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo and Uganda, where a rare strain without existing vaccines or treatments highlighted the critical importance of maintaining global health infrastructure and avoiding political decisions that undermine international health efforts.

TrumpCOLLAPSES from MEDICAL EMERGENCY Today: "CALL A DOCTOR NOW!"Added:
Is Donald [music] Trump still fit enough to handle the pressures of being the president of the United States?
The question has followed Trump throughout his political career. Now, the White House has released new details about the US president's health.
>> [music] >> And the verdict from Trump's doctor is clear.
Donald Trump has been declared in excellent health and fully [music] fit to serve as the commander-in-chief following a comprehensive medical examination at Walter [music] Reed National Military Medical Center.
A report from Dr. Sean P. Conley released [music] late Friday says Trump underwent a CT scan and other heart imaging along [music] with cancer screenings and other preventative assessments carried out by 22 specialists.
The medical report also documented bruising on Trump's hands described [music] as minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent hand shaking and said it [music] was a common and benign effect of aspirin therapy. Among the recommendations was a switch to low-dose aspirin, an Associated Press report stated.
Last year, the White House said Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous [music] insufficiency, a fairly common condition for older adults that causes blood to pool in the president's legs.
The report from his latest exam noted slight lower leg swelling, but said there [music] was improvement from last year.
>> I know that many in the media have been speculating about bruising on the president's hand and also swelling in the president's legs. So, in the effort of transparency, the president wanted me to share a note from his physician with all of you today.
In recent weeks, President Trump noted mild swelling in his lower legs. In keeping with routine medical care and out of an abundance of caution, this concern was thoroughly evaluated by the White House medical unit. The president underwent a comprehensive examination including diagnostic vascular studies.
Bilateral lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasounds were performed and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70. Importantly, there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease.
An echocardiogram was also performed and confirmed normal cardiac structure and function. No signs of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic illness were identified. Additionally, recent photos of the president have shown minor bruising on the back of his hand. This is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen. This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy, and the president remains in excellent health, which I think all of you witness on a daily basis here.
>> Dr. Sean P. Barbabella reported nothing abnormal, saying that [music] the president demonstrated what he called strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall health.
According to Dr. Barbabella's report, Trump weighed in at 238 lb, 14 lb more from the medical exam in April last year. The report added that Trump had a body mass index of 29.7. [music] An index of 30 is considered by doctors to be obese.
>> A deadly strain of the Ebola virus is ravaging the eastern Congo and neighboring Uganda as world health leaders rush to contain its rapid spread. Yesterday, the World Health Organization director general visited the city at the heart of the outbreak in eastern Congo, where he stressed the importance of building community trust while urging countries to reconsider travel bans and border closures, saying they discourage transparency.
The outbreak has also led the CDC to request employees volunteer to help the agency with their Ebola response, including with screenings at major US airports.
As of May 30th, WHO has reported 272 confirmed Ebola cases and 43 confirmed deaths in the Congo and Uganda, though the suspected cases are much higher.
Joining us now, Dr. Vin Gupta, senior medical analyst for MS Now and 13-year reservist in the US Air Force Medical Corps, where he has extensive experience in outbreak response and global health security initiatives. Dr. Gupta, thanks for being here.
>> Dr. Gupta, I want to start with apparently, and you tell me if I'm wrong, this strain of Ebola is a little bit different than what folks are used to. So, if you can explain that, but most importantly, do you trust this administration to be able to handle this Ebola outbreak and a response in a way that will keep Americans as safe as we want them to be?
>> Well, sure. Good morning, gentlemen.
Uh first of all, the strain, uh Eugene just said since you tee that up, this is a different, rarer strain for our audience and what we're used to.
Usually, it's the Zaire strain of Ebola that characterized prior major outbreaks like about 10 years ago in 2014 to 2016 in West Africa. This is different. And this version this version of Ebola we don't have vaccines or treatments for like we do for the more common strains.
And so, this is posing a challenge just in terms of how do you care for people beyond supportive care in a hospital setting? So, the challenges right there, two diagnostic testing. A lot of these themes and hallmarks we we talked about over the last 5 years during COVID, obviously a very different situation here. This is not nearly the threat to the general public as COVID-19 or say bad flu season has. And yet, we don't even have enough diagnostic tests because this version of the strain, again, is rarer. So, you brought a question though, Eugene.
Is this administration signaling that they're prepared to handle this challenge? I mean, the the short answer is absolutely not. They have withdrawn from global health efforts that can help with diagnostic testing. We've talked about USAID and PEPFAR funded capabilities to do just that in the eastern Congo.
13 years in the US Air Force Reserves, I can tell you that the US military plays a key role in command and control, moving logistics, medical supplies, getting people out of harm's way, especially Americans. We can tell that's not happening. Americans are now being asked to go to Kenya instead of being repatriated back home if they've been exposed or infected. We're This is fundamentally different.
>> Dr. Goodall, I think the tragedy in the Trump administration is not just what we see right now in real [clears throat] time. I think it is the delayed downstream impact that takes months if not years to manifest. And you you just mentioned USAID. And so I wonder in your assessment, do you think the Trump administration cuts to USAID contributed in any way to this outbreak or how it's been handled?
>> Absolutely, Anthony. And I'll I'll state that the best outbreak response is not at JFK or at Dulles, it's in the outbreak zone. And we we don't have material resources to do that. There's a reason that the index patient, the initial patient with Ebola, we think was weeks if not a month prior to broader recognition. That is the opposite of what you want in this scenario.
Surveillance, testing, this type of capability is what protects Americans.
Global health security is very much domestic health security. And they're missing the point there. And I think it's just evocative of what we're seeing without our caring for our own. Public health service professionals are being deployed to the region. If they get infected, they're going to be asked to go to Kenya, which again, nobody's searching the Kenyan health system. They they they >> Just finished my 6-month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center.
Everything checked out perfectly.
Thank you to the great doctors and staff. Heading back to the White House, President Donald J. Trump.
That's all we have. They said we'd have a medical report and we don't. Now, I know many of you are going to ask many of you are smart and you're going to say to yourselves, why delay a medical report when they can just lie and say it's awesome anyway. They lie about Trump's health all the time. They can just put out a propaganda medical report and of course you're correct. But what I suspect could be going on is that they are thinking about how to put out a report that is favorable to Trump but not so bombastic and propagandistic that nobody will believe it.
Uh and when you look at Trump, you have reason to suspect that he is not the healthiest person in the world.
>> But first, really quick, a word from our sponsor. One thing that drives me nuts about political media is how two outlets can cover the same story and make it feel like two different events took place. Not because any of the facts have changed, but because the emphasis of the stories is different. This is why I use Ground News because Ground News pulls together reporting from across the political spectrum and you can compare the headlines side by side and see how different outlets are framing the exact same issue. You can look at the bias distribution, you can look at factuality ratings, you can see who owns the outlets behind the report.
>> Now, with almost every major musical act pulling out of the so-called America 250 inches celebration, sometimes called Freedom 250, depending on who you ask, the White House is finding itself in full-blown panic mode. In fact, at this point, the list of performers willing to appear is getting so small that the event is rapidly becoming a national embarrassment. According to insiders who spoke anonymously, the situation behind the scenes is far worse than officials want the public to know. One Trump appointee reportedly admitted, "We can't just have Kid Rock every day of the state fair. It's a little embarrassing when you can't even hold on to Bret Michaels, but we're confident we'll get a good lineup." Confident, really?
Because when even your backup performers are backing out, confidence starts sounding a lot more like wishful thinking. Another insider involved in organizing the event offered an even more revealing admission, saying, "I should have done my research." Well, that's certainly one way to describe it.
Maybe researching whether artists actually wanted to be associated with the event should have been step one instead of step 50. The problems don't stop there. A well-connected Hollywood agent reportedly told Zeteo that most entertainers don't even need advice when it comes to invitations from this event.
The agent said, "If someone approaches you about performing at Trump's state fair, flush that invitation down the toilet if you know what's good for your career." That's a pretty brutal assessment. And honestly, someone probably should have given that same advice to New York Giants quarterback Jackson Dart before he publicly introduced Donald Trump a couple weeks ago. Since then, he's been dealing with plenty of backlash of his own, but that's a story for another day. As more performers continue to distance themselves from the event, the White House is scrambling to avoid what could become a massive public relations disaster, and right on cue, Donald Trump decided to step in. This weekend, Trump proudly announced on Truth Social that he would effectively fill the void left by the departing musicians and turn the taxpayer-funded celebration into something much more familiar, a Trump political rally. And let's be honest, absolutely no chance this wasn't the plan from the very beginning. Even if every artist had stayed on board, does anyone seriously believe Trump wouldn't have found a way to make himself the center of attention? Of course, he would have. That's what always happens, whether it's a charity event, a government function, a national celebration, or a campaign stop, everything eventually becomes about Donald Trump. The difference now is that he doesn't really have another option.
Without major performers, what exactly is left? A giant stage, a handful of empty seats, and Vanilla Ice. No offense to Vanilla Ice, but we're talking about an artist whose biggest hits came nearly four decades ago. There aren't exactly millions of people waiting for a Vanilla Ice reunion tour to come through town.
So, Trump has decided that if the entertainers won't show up, he'll become the entertainment himself. Ironically, that decision isn't even sitting well with some conservatives. Conservative commentator Matt Walsh publicly criticized the move saying, "Replacing a concert with a speech is lame and boring. Just go out and get real musicians to play. Don't cancel the concert just because a bunch of washed-up old has-beens canceled. There are hundreds of artists out there who might not be famous, but would absolutely leap at the chance to play on a stage like this." Think about what Matt Walsh is actually saying here.
First, he's admitting that nobody wants to sit through another Trump speech.
Second, he's basically acknowledging that conservatives can't attract major talent anymore. His solution? Forget famous artists, just find somebody, anybody. Maybe there's a guy playing guitar in a garage somewhere. Maybe there's a banjo player performing at a local dive bar. Maybe somebody's cousin has a band that rehearses every other Saturday. Just put them on stage and hope for the best. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement of the event. In fact, it sounds more like desperation.
Honestly, I'm surprised Walsh didn't suggest filling the lineup with conservative comedians like Jim Brewer, Adam Carolla, or Rob Schneider.
At least then there'd be something resembling entertainment. Meanwhile, former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis also weighed in, criticizing Trump's decision by saying, "America 250 is not about Trump. This is so egotistical." Now, hearing that from Jenna Ellis is particularly remarkable because if anyone should understand Trump's ego by now, it would be someone who worked directly for him. This isn't exactly a new personality trait we're discovering.
Donald Trump has spent decades making every event, every headline, and every conversation about himself. Why would anyone expect this celebration to be any different? And that's ultimately the biggest problem with the entire project.
The event was supposed to celebrate America's 250th birthday. Instead, it increasingly looks like it's being transformed into a celebration of Donald Trump himself. That's what critics have been saying from the beginning, and judging by the way things are unfolding, it's becoming harder and harder to argue otherwise.
