Humanoid Robots Outperform Humans During Beijing Half-Marathon

[00:00:01]Several Chinese made humanoid robots showed off their speed and athleticism at a recent half marathon in Beijing.

[00:00:09]They ran alongside [music] 12,000 human athletes on a parallel track for safety.

[00:00:15]This is the second year the robots have been included in these races.

[00:00:18]>> [music] >> The robots in last year's race were riddled with mishaps and many couldn't finish the competition. They were also slower with [music] the winning robot running 2 hours and 40 minutes, over double the time it took a human [music] to win. This year, many of the robots were more coordinated and navigated tougher terrains autonomously instead of by remote control.

[00:00:39]There were also robots that beat humans by over 10 minutes, highlighting how quickly the industry is evolving and advancing.

[00:00:46]>> [music] >> The winning robot for the 13-mile race was developed by Honor, a Chinese smartphone brand. Their machine crossed the finish line in 50 minutes and 26 [music] seconds, beating 57 minutes and 20 second world record Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo previously set in March.
