Please pay attention.
I still think some of you are confused as to what is actually happening.
So, this time I have a stock oil expander ring from Hastings that goes with stock pistons, 4030 bore, and I'm going to show you the difference between a file fit ring that is wrong and what the stock expander actually looks like and how it fits.
Okay, this should clear up any misunderstandings.
Okay, here we are. This is a 4030 board 350. And here is the File Fit J ring set.
Notice how buckled it is. And it's on both sides.
It's all wavy and buckled in the bore.
I've got it square. I took a piston just to be quick and I squared it up and notice the buckle. Okay, what I'm trying to to teach you is don't put this in the bore like that. This is not how stock rings are. This is not how they are from the factory.
If a ring manufacturer is saying, "Hey, don't cut the expander." Well, they're doing it out of good faith because they don't see what we're seeing. All right?
They have to be careful, which is so am I, which is why I'm making this video.
You need to be sure before you attempt this. This is for high performance racing and being sure you're trying to get every ounce of power you can out of this engine without having distorted oil rings. Okay? Distorted. Cuz look at them. They're distorted.
This is tiny. Okay, look at this.
Compared to stock.
All right. So, the stock one has much more pressure on it than than this little tiny one here.
However, get this out of my hand. I want you to see how a stock factory ring comes.
Okay, let's see.
Let me get it in the bore.
Is it going to stay?
Anyways, you can see how it fits. It fits.
Beautiful.
All right. That is a stock ring.
What I'm telling you to do is make sure your oil expander fits like this.
I'm not telling you to cut big giant gap. You should not have a big gap between your oil expander ring.
You want it to fit the board. That's what I'm saying. If it goes in distorted, guess what? Your oil ring is also going to be distorted with uneven ring pressure on the wall.
Now, this cannot be argued, guys. I've been doing this 39 years.
I don't have oil consumption problems. I don't have smoking engines. don't have any of that.
All right. So, this is stock. I'm telling you to make your file fit ring the same cuz this is clearly too large.
All right?
So, I just want to clarify that.
Make sure you understand what I'm talking about. And of course, get the paint out of there. This this block's got to be cleaned and washed and all that. We'll wipe it down with uh what do you call it? I don't know. Um lacquer thinner and then soap and wash it with dome all that. It's going to be really clean before assembly.
