A raw look at the clinical reality behind pastoral life, proving that even the hardiest traditions require modern pharmaceutical intervention to survive. It is a sobering reminder that agricultural success is built on relentless, unglamorous labor rather than just nature’s grace.

Swaledales Are Letting Us Down This Year!!Added:
like that. You see >> two dead lamps this morning.
There's another one somewhere to bring back as well. But you know, you can't beat a swale.
>> You forget about the start, don't you?
When you once you get into lamming. So >> flat out.
Oh my god.
>> Don't worry. I pick his faults out too every day that >> I'm down. I'm down, guys.
Let's get loaded.
I'm in. I'm in. Morning, guys. It's another fresh, beautiful morning.
Chilly, but it's it's dry in it then.
So, we're going to get some sheep and lambs out.
Come this way.
So unfortunately we have a lot of sheep that are blind either in one eye or both eyes. She is a perfect example of a blind one.
She doesn't know I'm here.
You can see a white glaze. She's going to book me now. You can see a white glaze over the eyes. And I look, we've got a lot of sheep like this that are either blind or see, she's one another.
Ah, she bit me. She's another. See, just watery and blind. Uh, and I don't know why they're doing it, but the the solution to it is what what we do. We squirt a bit of penicellin in its eye.
Yes, it sounds a bit harsh, but it seems to work. So, we'll give her a jab and then squirt it in each eye. So that's what we're doing. Try and film it without you falling over.
But >> it'll not hurt. It's just like an eye drop in it. It's just a bit It's just a bit like an eye drop. You know what humans have.
So just got to be very careful.
>> Like that. You see? And then the other eye.
There we are.
>> And I just give her and I just jabbed her with a few female of penicellin. So we are we have done quite a few sheep. She's blind in one eye. Can you see?
>> White white not white. So she's to do I'm doing them as we're pen them if you know what I mean. and then we know they're done.
>> Yes, there's other ways you could vet said spray them with um terrammy in their eyes um or drop some of this in. So, this is what we do. There's probably lots of ways or different ways, but yeah.
There you go.
Little squirt. Is that eye good?
That eye is fine. It's all jabber.
>> There we go. Jabbed and squirted.
On for the next one now.
To be honest, I don't even know if you're allowed needles on YouTube, but So, I've done a I've done a there's one around this side to do.
Yeah. So, I don't know what causes it. I don't know why they do it. I don't know.
Um, not very informative, am I? She's got whoopy eyes, they were another triplet. Ouch.
It has got horns.
There we go. Very simple.
And then Java.
There we go.
So, that's her done. Watch me. Don't know if there's another. I'll just check. But I can see in the pens there's one or two one or two uh that are to lamb that are blind.
So, it's just very strange. They're all okay.
They're all okay. Are you okay yet?
So, yeah. It's not a massive percent that are blind, but there has been more than other years. And we haven't. Have we strawb blowed? No, we haven't.
We've straw blown. H when we before we set the pens up, we straw blow. Whether it's that, I don't know. But right, they should come right now. Right. Have a few sheep to sort. So, I'll do that next.
It's non-stop, guys. I'm missing my children now terribly. They are coming back today, which is great.
Lost my knife. Oh, it's windy. I do it all the time. So annoying. It's uh from walking out to feeding the lambs. I've lost it.
Great.
Problem with hoodies, everything comes out of them.
Just had a cup of tea. It is a beautiful day, but there's a very chilly wind.
Uh, so I'm wrapped up again till it the wind drops. Just getting this single out. And then I'm going to cake all the sheep. Then I'm going to scrape out.
Then I'm just going to check the lin sheep here. Same stuff, different day.
Just freshly born, but they're better outside.
The sheep are wanting the cakes, so they're balling.
It is nice and warm in the sunlight. Go on, you can rally.
Oliver's gone to look for swaddles.
Um, I've asked him to film some because he does have a bit of a nightmare with them. So, I said film some for me. So, he said he would. So, if he has, I'll put it in now.
Checking the swale dales. It's the vermin.
Can't beat a swell. You know that had a dead lamb yesterday. That's to bring back today.
That's had two dead lamps this morning.
There's another one somewhere to bring back as well. But you know, you can't beat a swale. They're hard. They're good mothers.
They've plenty of milk.
Yeah, if you believe that, you believe anything.
That's it. Finished me morning rounds on swails. Took big trailer this morning cuz little kept jumping off hitches knackered.
But uh but a good job I did.
That's this morning's problems. All swail. Surprise surprise.
scrape out. Now, there is one to pencil pen that first, then I'll feed my lambs again. I tried to feed them four times a day cuz they thrive better and they do better. So, that's what I do. Yeah.
On the guts man.
Could just do with 40 winks like they used to on a Sunday afternoon, but it's not a Sunday.
It's only Friday today. They go back to school on Monday. Oh my god. And they've been at grandma's for like a week.
Anyway, it's okay. After school time, plenty of work for them. I'm on to the other cows now. Got some bedding.
Oliver's brought a trailer load of sheep back. Swaddles.
Bloody nightmare they are.
Thank you for waiting patiently, guys.
There you are. They've gone.
They waited patiently.
Oliver's Oh, Oliver's the [ __ ] [ __ ] today.
So all of us brought a trailer load of swaddles back. How many do you say you got?
>> Seven. Well, with seven pet lambs in there.
>> Seven pet lambs.
>> Have any?
>> Yes, there's loads.
>> Where?
>> Down here. Seven pets with seven lambs.
Well, that works out well.
>> I'm just getting some. It's here. So, they're all to tie up by the horns and put a lamb on them.
I'll ask Oliver what crack is unless he's already said it in that clip he made. I'll have to ask him.
>> I'm here.
>> Just there. Behind you.
>> Where?
>> In the pen. Yeah, behind you.
I got Billy band.
Need to catch my breath. We've uh had a quick brew.
Getting some sheep and lambs out and um moving some to the top. Then we've got space for me through the night slash morning. Uh we're going to bed up, wire her up, further up, and then check all everything else. Yeah, we try to get done earlier tonight. We usually done about 10:00. Well, it gets late, doesn't it? And I want to be in bed for 10 to be up at 2:00. Then I get up early anyway at like 7:00. So yeah. Oh, she's London.
We are listening. We are We are listening really fast. Today's Today is a Friday. I think it's like the It's not 13th, is it?
Today's Friday the 10th. So, heck, I'm behind on videos. I need to get some videos out. Um, yeah. So, we're going to try and get done early. I'm absolutely knackered.
I'm not complaining, though. I'll keep going forever more. But just get to that point, you no energy left, have you? No matter how many Red Bulls you drink. But it's all worth it. Lambs are coming well. They're coming thick and fast and they're getting out well. So, can't complain. Um, it's not been a terrible lamming up to now. I think it's been fairly good to be honest. You forget about the start, don't you, when you once you get into lamming. So, yep. All good in the hood.
Good morning, guys. It's a Saturday morning.
We have been filling the shed again. So all of us gathered the swaddle twins. We have half in this section now and we have half in that section now. So all the swaddle twins are now inside third. We have filled up again.
Wonderful.
Uh we've moved the singles whitefaced out of there into there. So all the white face singles are together and Peter's gone to gather the swaddle singles up to see see what they are. See what there is. Um there's the swaddle singles some of them. And they will be going up hither into where the sw um white face were.
So yeah, he's going to fetch the lot and we'll going to have a sort up.
So, I've just fed the cattle and I've just watted them as you do. Um, I think Oliver has gone to help Peter get them sheeping.
Oh, I can hear the shouting. Yeah, they are shouting from the field. Good job.
I'm not up there, that's for sure.
Unless he's shouting at the dog. Fair enough. So, I'll just turn them in when they come and we'll sort through them and probably house some.
Um, looks like he's brought the singles in. Swaddle singles again. I think they're having trouble outside.
They aren't playing ball at all. So, we're going to fetch the lot in. It's just far easier. We're here. We're We keep an eye on them all the time. So, I think all of us Yeah. Bit peed off with them. So, they're coming in. Coming in.
Oh, flat out.
Someone's flat out on it.
The one thing we are worried about at the moment is sheep bales. We don't have a lot of good bales.
Um yeah, wondering where to get them from. We have ced most of them from an area and we've ced all of them from another area. So yeah, don't have to buy them. Really something you don't want to do, especially when times are hard. Oh my god, you've been fed not long ago.
We get fed four times a day and they're still unless you're shouting for your mom. Just put him in. Yeah, bales.
Shortage bales. Shortage of good bales.
And we need to look for some land, don't we? So, yeah. Yeah. So, that's on our minds as well.
So, we've sorted them swelles now. We've pulled off the ones that gilled pulled off the ones that we don't want in the shed. Um, yeah, they've gone in the top shed singles. Now, I have to cake them all. But, oh, I've just got no energy to carry the bags. Got no freaking energy.
I don't know where I'm going to find it from. Me back starting dirt now and all a little bit, but I'm not one for complaining. I'm not a complainer at all, but um I'm feeling it today. Yeah, we're going to get rammed at the knees with the horns now feeding them. It's Eliminate kicking swarm.
Eliminate it.
They just the horns get your knees and it's just a nightmare. I'm not as good as all of them. He makes it look really easy, but it's not.
I'd rather do white face sheep and get pummeled to the floor than get stabbed in the knee with a horn.
Ah, one lamb. Better get that first or after. I haven't decided yet.
Couldn't even get me leg out then, could I?
That's I'll pin that twin when I've done this side.
That's both sides done. So noisy in here now.
They're all getting a nibble. I'll just chuck this last little bit in for these.
There we go. Just one more single shed and then I'll do the pens. We are full up. Literally every pen is full.
Every pen.
I think I'll add a pen in this one. Only pen we've got left. We are busy busy now. The shed is full again.
So um yes, I'll continue through the night. Stambo. Stambo. Rambo.
Just thinking it's only for a month.
It's only for a month. That's it. It's just a month.
Only a month. These are going to ram me down. I know it. And I'm going to let them go sake.
See if there's now hanging out the back of him.
Oh, it's windy, guys.
I hope you're sat in front of the lovely warm fire keeping your hands warm.
Oh my god.
Hail stone and it's coming through.
Oh my days.
All of it is going to be soaked.
Absolutely soaked.
At least I'm warm.
They're not getting enough now. I'm running out.
That bookie full's just done them.
Freaking hell stone.
It was snowing this morning. Then the sun decided to come out and freezing cold and it's hailing now. And then the sun will decide to come out again. I freaking hate April and March. March and April. Never make its mind up. Right.
Has that lamb found? Has that mother found its lamb again? Yes. Oh, there's another hanging out. Is it hanging out?
No. Good. I better l and pen with our last pen.
Now, where's my spray?
Where is the spray gone now? All the swell should be in lamb to the swale top. I think he chased with the texel.
Well, it's gone.
But here, that's not a swale dale, is it?
That's a text.
Um, yeah. I'm not really sure what went on.
Why if you chase with the text the text, why would they be ling now when unless it I don't really know. Where the freaking heck is the iodine?
Have you lot got it? No.
Oh, I have to go all the way back out and in again. Oh, there it is. I found it. It's hiding.
So, all these in here are singles, wild swells. They would lamb outside and he was going to lamb them outside, but he decides to bring them in because he's fetching loads back every day that need to one on. And it's easier pulling them out of the shed than dragging them back.
So, yeah.
Okay.
I've got you there. I've left you alone now. Texel. Oh, I've sprayed my camera.
Iodine might not even come off there.
Textile. Yeah, textile. Top lamb. So, we won't be keeping it, but we do keep the gimmas. Textile gimm, but we shouldn't have many this year. They should mostly be to the swale.
We'll see what happens. Sweles will be coming. Well, are coming now from now.
We uh in the second week of lamming. So we're going into the third week and yeah the red ass should be lamming.
The red ass should be lamming from now cuz they were sort of third fourth week.
I better pen her up in case something happens. It's crucial we get all the twins with two and it's going to plan up to now.
Don't forget, Sam, shut the gates.
I am terrible for leaving the gates open, that's for sure. And I do get told off um you know who. But don't worry, I pick his faults out too every day. She's not a Sheila. Sheila as in shearing as in first time llama. She's not a first time llama. So I'll give her a hand. L.
Where's your leg there?
Drop down slowly. Oh, leg back. That's why I knew there was something wrong.
Put it back in. Go back in. We'll just find your other leg. Okay.
Oh, it's warming my hands up.
tell it was a bit stressed by the color.
It's yellow.
Um, so yeah, I knew something wasn't right when she hadn't given birth already.
Here you go, lamb. Just noticed another one lamb in here. That one. I'll check it on check on it in a bit. Oliver's just landed back. No doubt he's fetched something in. Oh, he hasn't. Now it's that time. Why haven't you scraped out yet? Jobs are to be done. There's nothing getting done really.
Some days I could screw his neck, honestly.
But I have to remind myself I need him.
Do I need him? Yeah, I need him.
Peter's brought a couple of bells from the dent. keep us going till they go for a load. Maybe tonight slash tomorrow, but me and Oliver could have gone tonight cuz mom's got kids tonight.
Well, she's had them all week actually.
They've had a week at grandma's house.
It just reminds me when uh we were little. We used to stay at my grandma Eva's grandma's for two weeks in the holidays and then we alternate. She'd have say two that week, two another week and then all four of us for the last week of some holidays. And every Easter we used to go every every holiday is possible. We go there and yeah, it's great. Loved it. Enjoyed every minute milking, feeding calves while they're doing up jobs until we got a bit older and got a bit more responsibility. It was great. Yeah.
So, it's nice that they can go to grandma's, my mom's, and yeah, have a good experience there. memories they'll remember for years to come as well as the farm life because it can get tough on them. Hard work, exhausting, tired.
They go to grandma's for a break type thing. So that's how I think of it. I says, "Do you want do you want a break yet, guys?" And they're like, "Yeah, I do." So we go to grandma's blood all over me stuck in my zip and all.
I'm just not not freaking feeling it today. I'm not feeling it.
Tomorrow is another day. Fresh day.
Tomorrow will be fine. Always another day.
Just be thankful you're here and you're happy and you're well. Health is everything, isn't it, guys? Means more than anything.
I have doubled up on socks. I've got a hole in my wellie, so and my feet are cold. I have doubled up on layers. I need another jacket on. It's about 5:00.
We're going to be back late probably and we've still the shed to sort. It's going to be a late night, I think.
Right, let's go and get to the trailer on. Feel like an absolute Michelin man in all these layers, but I'm not really bothered. I'm warm.
There's quite a few hats in here, actually.
I've added to it now. I'll go get the long order on.
Might have to take a layer off actually.
I look fly. I look good. Touch my sweat.
Right. How the heck do I put my hitch down? Oh, it is down. Oh, it is out.
Right.
Right. Can you see? Nope.
Down. What's down that? I'm down. I'm down, guys.
Am I in though?
>> Oh, there. Yeah.
>> Uh, yeah.
Just plugging the brake pipes in and the indicator.
We go in by um you know hop out.
Right, let's go. Better take this off before I get too hot.
Right. I'm going. I'm going. I'm going.
Going. I'm sorted. I'm sorted.
Right. I'm happy. Cuz once you get going, you can't take a layer off when you're driving, can you? Oh, he's right behind me. I'm 50k 51 and he is like 48 46. Same same as my Valtra. Actually, it's faster than you think. The Valtra and the Zetta.
Got to put my flashes on.
See, he's catching up. You see, he's not that far behind. I'm slow on this hill, but he's not.
So, long stop.
He's filming. He's bloody filming.
See, I've lost him now.
I look back. I look good. teasing me to the point.
This is an old school tune I used to do.
I'll be the one and you won't forget tonight.
You're a superstar.
>> It is getting quite dark now, but uh we are just here. I need to turn around though. I'm at that awkward little bridge that regular viewers shouldn't know about.
Watch out, Fez.
Oh, tight. Tight.
That's all the male stack. I think that's all the bales we've got left. We do get through a lot of bales.
There we go.
Go down this section here. Can you see down this section now? And I've turned around there.
This little triangle bit is quite handy for that. So, I'll get back and wait for Oliver now. Oh god.
Back up. Some back up.
Didn't want a blinder then. I don't know what blinds you. What are these lights?
Put them all on.
Don't know.
So tight that one.
Oh, it's raining like bad. All of us just landed.
Let's get loaded.
I'm absolutely soaked. I've had to climb the bales and get the freaking straps on.
Full forward. Fully loaded.
Off I go.
Can you see?
Fully loaded. Right, let's get home without any accidents. My battery might run out. So, I'll probably see you at home. No doubt.
Coming up to the narrow bridge, but I nip my butt cheeks when I go over that.
panic signing on halfway home now. I keep blinding people with my lights, so I just don't know which to dip.
I don't know who keep them all on and then I'll just press that maybe. Or is it that one? I don't really know.
I think they all blind them. But I just noticed the bail there at the front slipping out a bit.
It's not moved and it's not got worse.
So, I think it'll be fine. All the weight on the top should be holding it down and the straps. So, it should be okay. I'll keep my BDI on it.
Missed dinner again today. So, I am pretty hungry. And I left my M Oh, my M bar's there.
It's about half eight. So, yeah, pretty hungry. I might have scrambled eggs on toast when I get home.
Obviously, the shed's to do first, but after that, I'll have scrambled eggs, I think.
Onto the narrow bridge now. You probably can't see.
You might be able to see at the bottom there.
You might not.
Nipping, nipping.
Did you see that or not? Probably not.
Oh, Oliver's on my taxi now. I must be slowing down.
Just got to seven now. And I'm going to risk it for a biscuit.
And I'm going through town.
Probably shouldn't, but I'm going to.
Shouldn't be any cars and people around now, shouldn't at this time of night.
They'll be in the pub, won't they?
So, I'm going to go through the village.
Right. Here it goes.
Here goes.
Oh, that's the pizza spot. Hey, mate.
How you doing?
I'm not really keen of them pizzas actually cuz they always burn them.
That's the problem.
Whoa, that's tight.
Tight tight. Tight.
Oh, might get a sign.
Just Oh, just got back, guys. Just unplugging that uh that wire that Oliver told me to do. Hi, cows. I can see you.
So, I've just pulled into the yard.
Yeah. What time is it now?
Oh, late. Got my pet lambs to feed all the sheep and lambs to do and then we can have some supper.
I'll give it tick over for 30 seconds or so and then uh I'll turn it off. Right, I'll catch you in the morning. Guys, >> hiding somewhere.
