This video demonstrates how a content creator builds an audience by focusing on indie TTRPG developers, creating engaging update videos that cover game previews, channel growth, and personal experiences. The creator emphasizes authenticity, community interaction through live streams and polls, and maintaining independence by refusing paid sponsorships while accepting physical game copies for review. The channel's success is measured through subscriber growth (nearly 800 new subscribers in May), community engagement, and the development of recurring characters across different game systems.

Hi Hello - June UpdateAdded:
Everybody, it is June. You know what that means? It's time for an update video. We got some stuff to talk about and cover and discuss. That's right. So, everybody, let's break it down.
Well, hi. Hello everybody. My name is Turk and welcome back to the Grouch Couch around here. Yes, all different kinds of TTRPG things. But today is the update video for the month of June. It's the 1st of June. That's right. We got some stuff that we are going to be talking about. If you're new around here, he's too cute. If you're new around here, these are the videos where we talk about all the TTRPGs that I hope to plan and cover this month. So, it's kind of like a list, a list of solo RPGs so you can get your peepers on those.
Also, in these videos, we're going to talk about channel updates and we're also going to talk about me updates a little bit, some personal stuff, some ways for you guys to get to know me a little bit better. But have no fear cuz I always leave the MI updates and the channel updates for the end of the video. There will be timestamps below.
So, if you just want to see some fun RPG TTRPG things from some cool indie developers, then you can watch the beginning here. All right, that's the way that we structure them. Also, these videos are unscripted and a little bit more ranty. Okay, so I just kind of talk and say things and you know what I mean, just get out words and things here.
There was a poll that happened a while ago, some voting in and comments and people voted for more rant here on these update videos. So, I hope that you enjoy that. This is my one a month where I just kind of talk and say thanks. Yes.
As a quick reminder everybody, tonight on June 1st, we'll be doing YouTube live stream. I'm trying to do a AMA hangout live stream. The first of every month.
All right, the first Monday at least of every month. We're going to be hanging out doing a live stream only for about an hour and a half. We're going to be talking about all of the games that we managed to play in May. So, we're going to be talking about last month. We're also going to be going over my solo junk journal. I've got a lot of cool stuff in here I want to show off. And tonight, we're going to be talking about the origin behind the name The Grouch Couch.
I think you could watch the VOD, is that what they call them? Video on demand here on the channel. Um, if that live stream has already happened, you can watch it if you want to. But if it hasn't happened, come to the live stream, ask me questions about things and I will answer them. Yes. Now, with all that being said, today we are going to be talking about and taking a look at head ahead of what I am planning to cover here in June. And I really like doing these monthly previews slashupdate videos because a lot of you guys pick up these games as we play and you play alongside of me, which is always really cool to see. I've seen some fun Discord messages and stuff. You guys hanging out playing things with me. Just very, very cool. So again, June game plans, channel updates, and personal stuff updates in that order. All right, cool. I like to be as transparent as possible here on the channel. talk to you about the process, what the heck is happening, you know, how things are going. It's kind of just my vibe. So, let's move on to some games we're going to be looking at this month. Yeah. Right here at the top, and a lot of people have noticed this.
There's a huge theme on my channel, okay? I like to cover indie developer stuff more than any of the big guys. A lot of times you talk about a big TTRPG to me, one of the big guys, I I won't even talk to you because I love indie stuff so much that the rest of it just doesn't even concern me. I love indie developers. I love working with indie developers. I love how much love they put into their games. You're going to get extra cool little things and and they work really hard on their mechanics because they care and love about this hobby and what they are making. You know what I mean? And it's usually just like a team of one to 10 people really working really fun on something. And I love covering indie stuff. All right.
More than anything else. I have had such a good experience with indie developers.
It's just been amazing. But the inverse for the big guys. We'll just say that thus far. And I'm sure a lot of you know what I'm talking about. Okay, I love indie developers and that's what you're going to get a lot on this channel. It's what I like to cover. You're going to get weird TTRPGs that you probably never done even heard of here on the Grouch Couch because it's just important to me to showcase some of this really fun stuff that you've never heard of, right?
I've got like this I come from the punk rock world, right? And that's what it's all about. You know what I mean? People putting love into stuff and so that's what you're going to get. All right, moving on. Let's take a drink of a refresh. I actually wrote down the whole list over here. Usually I have a fat stack right here that I just start pulling from, but I actually wrote down a whole list because they're all kind of in places on the shelves and what have you. The Shelf of Shame. We'll talk about that later. So, let us begin. This here is very cool. This is Notorious and Outsiders. It's an actual solo dedicated game, right? This game is straight up solo. So, we aren't doing any fun stuff.
All right? We're straight up just going to be playing it. Now, I did go out of my way to get both of them in this cool little box set. All right. And shipping was really annoying. It was very expensive for the shipping. I did actually purchase this one myself.
Thanks to your guys' support on Drive-Through RPG allowed me to do this.
So, thank you so much for that. This is Notorious and Outsiders. Yeah, it's not set up right because I've been reading them. This is one of the things we're going to be covering this month. Both of these bad boys right here. This one game and then a little bit of an expansion to where you can keep playing it. All right. But the idea here is that we're going to be continuing Cassidy Cad's adventure, my iron sworn star forged campaign. There's four episodes of that, five if you count session zero, following an astral elf by the name of Cassidy Cade. We're going to be playing this and covering it on the channel for probably about two or three episodes depending on what happens. And we're going to be continuing on her adventure.
All right, this is one of the themes I had spoken on previously. I talked about my couch core characters on the website.
You can actually see them. I think there's six of them or so. They are characters that I'm going to continue to bring with me in different TTRPGs and stories moving forward. We've actually gotten some fun comments, people being like, "All of the couch core characters should meet each other one day." And I think for all the fantasy characters, yes, absolutely. That's going to be fun.
It's like a couch cananan world we're kind of living in in all these different worlds and what have you. And and I'll talk more about the Grouch couch and its origin and the name and it kind of ties into that actually a little bit. Um, the couch is a mimic being a portal that sends you into worlds when you sit on it. Right back to this. Very cool.
There's some cool art in here. The pages aren't um, this isn't a full review yet.
They aren't as saturated as I would have wanted, but there's really, really cool art in here, and it has its own fun little mechanics. It only uses D6's, and it actually has like a fun little story thing. From my reading thus far, what I will say about this is that it's not only like a game game where you just kind of follow the game, but it also has a little bit of mechanics for imagination as well. It's a good mix between both of them. So, I'm actually excited to do this. And I'm hoping to get The Perilous Void to actually be able to supplement all of Cassidy Kad's adventures moving forward because after this, and I'm not talking about June, but maybe July or August, we're going to be playing AstroPrisma following Cassidy Cade as well. That'll be our next sci-fi thing we're going to be covering. So, that is Notorious and Outsiders. It's a lot of fun. All right. This game right here. Oh, also it's by I have the sticker here in my journal. Always checkers. All right. And shipping's kind of crazy, but I think they actually still have some free copies on it.io, community copies. So, you can go over to always checkers and check that out on it.io if you want physical ones. But it does say if you get a community copy, make sure to leave a review. All right.
And I seen some friends at UKG this past week and there was a bunch of these everywhere. And I was like, yeah, cuz that's where they're from, but I'm in California, so I had to pay crazy shipping. Yeah. Anyways, moving on.
Here's the next game we're going to be talking about. This here month. Yeah.
Yeah. This right here is Fluff and Fury.
And I actually mentioned this in one of my videos. Um because I seen this on Hit Point Press's website and I was like, "Hitpoint Press, y'all crazy." Um and I had actually sent them an email. They didn't even respond to me. But then I decided to hit up Weird Place and they were like, "Yeah, dude. Turk, absolutely. That's awesome. We would love to send you some Weird Place stuff." And the Weird Place folks are so cool. They actually have their own YouTube channel. They're working on stuff. They've actually done some solo duo Morborg stuff before. or they told me they watched my Morgborg video whenever they were prepping for their own stuff. So fantastic. I love to hear it. Um and so the weird place friends uh sent me over Fluff and Fury and they sent me some fun little goodies to go with it. So we got some stickers for our awesome uh junk journal. I actually got this weird place sticker off of the packaging. Already dropped it onto the junk journal because very cool. All right. And we have some other things to shout out for Weird Place because they're actually making a new game that hopefully is is a new game that's actually fully solo. And I'm hoping to play that and do that on the channel and show it off. And this is actually the logo for the new game that they're developing, but we're not going to talk about that today. You're going to have to come back and watch the Fluff and Fury video. We'll go into more depth on that. But this is very, very cool. Look at the spine right here, dude. It's all the outside of the pages are green. It's it's so cool. The the embossing, holographic embossing on the book itself. This is what I'm talking about with any developers. Dude, this is just such cool stuff. All right. So, in a nutshell, basically the world had ended and um everyone's minds get put inside of these little mechanical teddy bears for one reason or another. And um that's who you play as. And it's it's very very fun. It's got some cool mechanics in it.
It's not necessarily solo, but it's just one of those games that I have to cover on the channel because of the flavor, the imaginative stuff. And you guys know how much I love apocalypse games. All right? So, any game that says the world has ended, you've got me. All right? You don't even need to finish that sentence.
Um, so very very cool stuff. This is Fluff and Fury by Weird Place. You guys go check out Weird Place. All right.
Just a couple of lovely folks. All right. I love what they're doing. So much heart, so much love. And this is exactly why I love covering indie stuff.
Just everything about this game right here and the other one that they're developing. I'm really excited to play it. Everything about it makes me very, very happy. Okay, that's Fluff and Fury.
And I'm going to go into more detail in the actual video, so take a look out for that. Nextly, of course, we've got Alone Against the Zone. This is actually a newer one. I've seen a lot of my friends here in the TTRPG space already cover a lot on this game, but I have to cover it myself. What do you mean? I am the apocalypse guy. All right, I have to cover Alone Against the Zone. I actually made a video talking about Apocalypse stuff and mentioned Alone Against the Zone, I think like once in that video.
Um, very fun video, by the way. Go watch apocalypse videos. I'm in cosplay. It's a great video. I worked really, really hard on it. Go check it out. Um, so many people said Turkey need to play alone against his own in the comments. so many people and I was like I didn't want to respond to all of them, but I would like it's it was it's coming in the mail already. It's it's coming in the mail, you guys. I just had to wait for it to dang get here. So, we're going to be covering Alone Against the Zone as well this here month of June. All right. At least it's on my schedule. I hope I managed to get to it as long as I like it. Of course, there have been a couple times where I've talked about TTRPGs in these update videos and then not covered the game. And I talked about it in a previous video, but that means I didn't like it pretty much. Um or I didn't have time, which is the other thing. But usually I just didn't like it. Um, yeah.
So, this is a solo survival adventure game focused on exploration, hard choices, and survival at any cost. You play as a lone operative venturing into a shattered exclusion zone. Combat is fast, unforgiving. Resources are scarce, but death is everywhere. Mutants haunt the crumbling ruins. And this this is so fun to me. Alone Against the Zone. Like, I wish like gosh, I don't know. I'm just going to have a really good time with this. All right, I'll talk about it more in this actual video for that guy. All right, so come back and check out Alone Against the Zone. Yeah, the apocalypse guy. Of course, I need to play alone against the zone. What do you even mean?
All right, nextly from another good friend of ours, we have three die 6. And I talked about this a little bit in a short that I made. Uh our friends at Deeply Dapper Games, our friend Chris um actually sent me a whole care package full of stuff from their whole pretty much their whole suite. And this was one of the things that came in it. And it's so funny to me because I actually had 36 on my drive-through wish list and I've had it on there for like months. I just hadn't made the plunge yet. Um, so then he was like, "Here, Turk tank." So now we have 36. And this game's kind of fun.
Um, in a subterranean world of glowing mushrooms, strange creatures, and winding tunnels, and death. 36 is a new game system designed to be quick to learn. And I think you literally play as little like bug knights. Um, it's very fun. It reminds me of mouse rider, but bugs. Um, and I think that at least theming wise, it's kind of fun. Chris Mlanahan. So, shout out to our friends at Deeply Dapper. All right. For sending me the whole dang care package. I'm excited to finally play some 36, but I want to make sure I give it good love.
All right, so if I don't cover it this month, it's because I didn't have time to to really delve into it. We will cover it next month, but this is on the schedule for now. Anyways, 3 D6, you guys. Could be a lot of fun. It Yeah, it's a dungeon crawler RPG. And I do believe from my so far readings, it does have some solo rules. All right, you're going to have to come back and check out the whole video if you like, but it looks looks like it's going to be fun.
Real simple, too. I love simple, straightforward. That's some stuff you're going to get from Deeply Dapper and um Galliant Night, you know, to punk stuff like that. You're going to get straightforward rules. It's not like bulk of crap, just [ __ ] words, that kind of stuff. We'll talk about that more later. Okay, I know there's only four weeks in a month, Turk, how do you plan to cover all this stuff? Well, we'll talk about that more during the channel updates. All right, we will indeed. But we also have Plasmodics. All right, this game is really cool. So, it is Mutant Freaks in a Weird Future. So, it's not exactly Apocalypse. All right.
But it is mutants. Very fun. It It reminds me of the zone. I just played that recently. It's right there behind my head a little bit. Um, but real fun mechanics. These pages just look great.
I want to show you guys this page. This whole book is actually really, really awesome. This little Zen book. I love these little Zen books because ah, they're just great. Okay. Um, let's read the back for you. The remnants of the world played in the smithetheriness.
Plasmodics is a tabletop role playing game of post-apocalyptic gonzo sci-fi where sort of humans kind of animals mostly robots and definitely aliens join hand in hand and mutated hand built for one shot or campaign play which one shot is great because going to be able to do a whole one shot with this bad boy should be fun. We've got some reviews from some other folks who think it's cool. The creator of Triangle Agency said a seamless memerizing ooze. This is from Good Luck Press and these guys actually emailed me uh which is really cool. It doesn't happen a lot. Uh, maybe once or twice a month I get folks who emailed me straight up and these guys reached out to me and said, "Turk, you should cover this." And I was like, "You're right." So, we're going to get into plasmodics this month. Um, mutations and post-apocalyptic future.
Um, very, very cool. Really nicely designed pages that aren't walls of text. At least not too bad. We've got some fun character sheet stuff happening here. Plant mutations. Yes, the pages are still real stiff because I haven't read a lot, but look at that cool little art piece right there, dude. Sick.
It's very cool. All right. Plasmodics is also on Z list. Okay. Well, what's left you say there, Turk? Well, um Oh, I guess before I mention that, we have this elephant in the room to discuss.
Yes. Yes, we do. Legend in the Mist right here. We're going to be covering this this month. I just did a session zero last week. We're going to do a few episodes of this. All right. Uh we're going to be continuing our story of Fineian Ash. Fine Ash is my druid character. He's one of the main couch core characters. Legend of the Mist basically tells his origin story and how he came to have his druidic powers and it's um Finn and Ash and his dog Patch um because I love companions in my games and Patch is of course designed after Macaroni who you just seen earlier. But anyways, we're going to do a few episodes of this. We're going to be continuing the story. I'm going to be judging your guys's interest in it depending on how many episodes we do.
But I absolutely at least want to do two or three when we come back and continue on the story. We're playing all physical which is really cool. I developed my own solo rules because their solo rules were a little bit too convoluted for me. Um, so I kind of developed my own. You can get them for free on Drive-Through RPG if you want them. Um, just look up Legend of the Mist solo. It's like on the first page. Um, yeah, you can pick those bad boys up for free. We're going to do a couple of few episodes of this.
Um, which should be exciting. It's been a lot of Legend of the Mist the past couple of months working with Sun and Oak and everything else like that. Um, so it's finally fun to have this thing and to play it and put it to rest. I'm pretty excited about that. you know, this thing's just been in my life. So, it's really excited to have these physical books um and to be doing the things. Yeah, we love a good legend in the mist. All right. Yes, we do. So, alongside Notorious, I plan to do two basically campaigns this month, actual play little serieses. Um, I think both of them, you know, are going to be three episodes or so and we're going to do them alongside of each other just because I feel like I can manage it with these systems not being too crazy narratively heavy and I'm trying to test out new ways to do things and we'll talk about more of that in channel updates.
Yes, we will. Now, I have a couple of hopefuls actually for this month. Um, they're probably going to be towards the end of the month obviously, but I have a couple of hopeful things I want to be talking covering here on the channel this month. One of them right here is actually Terrible Games. And the cool thing about uh Terrible Games is uh actually another friend that hit me up and was like, "Turk, I just we've been following each other on TikTok and they hit me up and they were like, I feel like you just need to cover one of our games already basically." And I was like, "You know what? You're right." So, um they're sending me a package as well.
I've been watching the tracking. I think I'm getting Vela, which is kind of cool.
Solo game for sure. But they also have some other stuff, too. Some really cool just stuff. Again, indie developers making really cool stuff, you guys. Um Black Mold is one of their newer games, which is really cool. They're known for a game called Token Terrors is kind of what these guys are known for. You've probably seen Tken Terrors. I bet you have somewhere. Um, little game right here. They're like doing the things with the little tokens and and making them and smashing them and you know what I mean. I'm sure you've seen it somewhere.
So, they're kind of known for this, but I'm hopefully going to be covering one of their other lessly known games. Yeah.
Now, last month I did a lot with Ton Punk. It's one of my favorite TTRPGs. I actually played a couple of characters that are really fun and I hope to actually add them into the couch core characters, but we'll see. The creator of Tomb Punk, uh, his name is Alan Bar and I actually had a couple other TTRPGs from him and one of them is right there actually, the pink one right there. Uh, and Alan Bar actually joined our our community couch Discord, which is kind of cool. Um, but Allan had emailed me before that was like, "Hey dude, like you covered Ton Punk. It was pretty great. Like, do you want to cover some more of my stuff?" And I was like, "Yes." And he's like, "Do you want to work on some stuff?" And I was like, "Yes, we haven't decided what that is yet, but um if I ever do figure it out, I will let you guys know." But for now, um Alan Bar actually does Galliant Knight Games. Um and Alan Bar made Tiny D6, which I think a lot of you guys are familiar with. But I think he's sending me some other stuff. Um and we shall see exactly what that is. Could be some stuff here on this list, which I'm pretty excited about, but I don't know.
All right. He just said sending me a package. So, it's coming in the mail.
We'll check it out. We'll see how it goes. That's one of my hopefuls, right?
You never know how the shipping is going to go and and when things are going to arrive and everything else like that with the current state of the world. Um, but those are my current hopefuls.
That's right. Now, I've got some other things on the shelf. I uh this is kind of not this, but a little bit of that is kind of my shelf of shame. I have stuff that I really want to cover, but I haven't had time to do so yet cuz I'm just excited about other stuff. Uh, but I have plenty that I might cover in extra right in in some filler stuff.
Lastly, a little bit out of left field, but Final Space, my hat. I don't know if you guys know what Final Space is. I wear this in all my videos. Uh, Final Space is one of my favorite cartoons of all time and the graphic novel is finally happening. Should be here soon.
I actually plan to make a video talking about this year graphic novel because I feel like I'm going to get a little emotional when it comes to reading this dang thing. And um, it's just going to be exciting. I'm also going to a Final Space book signing. I'm actually going to go meet the creator of it. Uh, just, you know, get my book signed as kind of like a meet and greet thing. And so that should also be exciting. I probably will post some things on Instagram all about it. All right, so make sure to follow the Grouch Couch on Instagram.
Truthfully, if you Google the Grouch Couch with no spaces, make sure it's the the Grouch Couch with no spaces.
Everything comes up. All right, so just do that. Um, there's a board game that I absolutely hate that actually released after I claimed my name and I just never changed my name. But we're going to talk more about that during the live stream, so come to that. All right, screw that dang board game. All right, cool. So that's most of our games right here that we will be playing this year monthly.
All right, I'm I'm pretty excited about it. Um, I put together I think this is a fun little little list for me to get through different mechanics, different genres, you know, should be fun. It's got some fantasy, got some sci-fi, got some apocalypse. Very cool. We're going to move on now though to channel updates. Yes. Right. So, first off, uh, no surprise, but the growth of the channel has still been amazing and wonderful, and I know a lot of you guys have been very kind, saying kind words to me. I mean, the amount of content that I pump out does reflect the growth, I think, a little bit, but uh this past month of May, according to analytics, we almost got another 800 subscribers. So, everybody who's new, hello, my friends.
Welcome to the couch crew. Good to have you. Um it's not quite as explosive as the previous months. We almost got a thousand two months before that. So, you know, all is well, but the growth in the end of the day has still been absolutely wild. Um I got a screenshot of 6.66 66 and put it on the Instagram story and 15 minutes after that we're already at 6.67. I was like, "Oh, I'm really happy I got that screenshot." Um, so the growth has been wild and I just want to say thank you. Thanks to all of you guys for subscribing. And I know that um a lot of YouTubers say like subscribe at like the beginning of every video and you know everything else like that. And I don't really do that. Um I I I just at the end of the video I say before I sign off, you know what I mean? But I don't ever like push please subscribe to the channel um ever. But those you guys that do, even still I don't say anything. It means a lot. You know what I mean? It's really cool that you guys hit that that little button because it really does help. It shows publishers like these cool indie developers and stuff like that that I have an audience that actually wants to see what I have to say. Um, and it it helps, you know, them to send me stuff and it helps growth and allows me to show off more cool stuff to you guys, which really is my goal to help teach cool stuff and to show off cool stuff and this awesome TTRPG community that we have. And the end of the day, I mean, that's really the goal, right? So, you hitting that button has been awesome. So, thank you so much for doing that. Weirdly enough, it's still like 80 to 90% of my audience are not subscribed. I could see that. It tells me, right? And I'm like, ah, you know, uh, the views speak for themselves. Um, cuz I feel like even if you watch a video, even if you ain't subscribed to someone, if you watch a video, YouTube's still going to start recommending their videos to you like constantly. You know what I mean? So, like, subscriptions don't mean anything except you are now supporting the creator because you hit that button. Like, literally.
All right, rant over. It's been great.
Thank you all so much. All right, I really do appreciate it. Algorithms and stuff like that, you know, I'm still learning every day. I do my research. I I try to learn more. You know, I'm growing and learning as well as I'm teaching. You know what I mean? So, it's it's a given give. Next thing I uh I hope to do more live streams. If I talked about it at the beginning, but the first of every month, the first Monday at the very least, um is going to be a YouTube live stream right here, right? We're going to do a YouTube live stream right here on YouTube. Um where we're going to talk about the games I played the previous month. I'm going to do an AMA and and just talk solo RPGs, right? We're going to do it for about an hour and a half, at least one stream every month, right? Right here on YouTube, which I think could be a lot of fun. I did a test one last month for my birthday and a lot of you guys showed up and um it was honestly really wonderful.
Um I was a streamer, a Twitch streamer for six years or something like that.
And so I had a little bit of PTSD going back into it, you know. Um but I just fell right back into my groove and and it actually went really well. So it was a cool stepping stone, right? Faced my fear and we're moving on, which is wonderful. That being said, it was a tester stream. I wanted to figure out how it worked. I wanted to see, you know, what latency was like and everything else like that because my idea was to test it out and then try to do some solo actual plays live, but because of how awful YouTube's latency is, I might be able to mess with my settings some, but I did already. So, YouTube's latency just kind of seems a little bad. Um, so the goal now, I still want to do these solo actual plays live.
I want to do a solo actual play where we can run polls. You guys can vote on decisions that the characters make. You can throw out suggestions for names of NPCs and descriptor words. You could help me come up with location ideas and names. You could help me like with dice and other kinds of fun mechanicy stuff that I want to do. Um, I want to do that, but with YouTube, impossible. The latency is way too long. The Twitch latency, I always put my latency all the way down all the way. There's an easy setting to be able to do it on is, you know, like a few seconds. And that only means one thing. I want to do these solo actual plays, which means we're going to have to do them on Twitch, right? Either we already have an established Twitch account. I do anyway and I will put the link to it down in the description.
Okay, I'm currently judging to see if you guys are interested in that. Okay, so get over there and follow and if enough of you guys are interested, we're going to do that over there on Twitch. I plan to do it once a month or every other week to start and we're going to test out the waters and see how it goes.
All right, if you want to be involved in those, I would love if, you know, 20 or 30 of the couch community will come hang out with me. We'll tell some fun stories. We might be able to, you know, make some VODs out of it. You know, have a little bit of fun telling some kind of a story. I think we're even going to vote on what theme we're going to tackle first in our first little story. All right, so make sure to go over there and do that because we're going to be doing some polls and other kinds of stuff.
Okay, that's just a separate little project I've been thinking about and something that I want to do. It's fun for me whenever I do my actual plays. I always ask you guys for NPC suggestions and story threads and stuff and it's been a lot of fun, but it doesn't feel exactly interactive as much as I want it to be. I mean, I know it's more than most solo actual players do, but I still want it to be interactive. So, it's something I really want to do. So, if you're down to help me out with that, give us a follow on Twitch. Link in description. Yes. Okay. Third thing.
Yes, I'm wearing merch t-shirt. You see?
Very cool. Sick. Um, yeah, I finally ordered some shirts myself. I actually cut this out of a different shirt and put it on the back of my vest. So, it's another back patch on my vest, which is really, really cool. Um, I might wear that in the live stream tonight. So, check that out. But, additionally, I mentioned it last month. We are going to make a lot of you guys were totally down. We're going to make a t-shirt that says Roll for Treats on it. And our friend Abbracto made concept art for it.
So, this is the first concept draft design from Abstractto, which Abstractto is linked in all of the descriptions of all my videos that feature their art. If you want to commission art, absolutely.
Abstractto is wonderful. His prices are great. He's so fast. This is the sketch, all right, for the Roll for Treats t-shirt. Okay, if you guys have any ideas or suggestions about this shirt, make sure to let us know. All right, but they're going to be framed after my two dogs. And there's going to be text above it that says roll for treats straight up. So very cool stuff and I'm honestly really proud of it. He actually had the idea to throw the dice with the bone on there in the center. And I think that that's wonderful. Okay, fourth thing.
I've actually bullet pointed in my last video. I was like I I'm rant a lot, you know, maybe I should bullet point this.
And there was a couple comments that were like do a mix. Do both rant and bullet point. So that's what I've done.
All right. I have bullet points so I don't forget things and I can actually put them in a water. So, fourth thing, I have released lots of stuff on it.io for you guys to get for free. Uh, supplements for games or just like the solo game loop and rules and rolls for better solo combat. I've released them for free up on it.io and it's been wonderful. I altogether I have more than like 2,000 downloads um of everything and and I've gained a lot of followers on it which is great and thank you guys for the support over there for doing that. It's fantastic. It's really cool to see that people are interested in the things that I'm actually making and saying and you know what I mean and I've gotten a lot of good feedback from that.
So even last month uh I've been thinking about it heavy and I've made a lot of supplements. I'm doing a lot of stuff I we in the works you know on the side like making TTRPGs and settings and stuff like that and and I was like you know what am I the guy to make a setting? I don't think so. But I absolutely think I am the guy to make a solo game masters book of some kind. You know what I mean? Rules and roles like solo RPGs for dummies. You know what I mean? Like I can take all this information that I've put in the solo role players academy, all these scripts that I still have, and I can rewrite them out, make them into an actual book.
I can have sections that have roll charts in them. So, can it be an actual book that would be usable at your table?
You know what I mean? You could have all the nice little roll charts in a physical nice bound book. And then it can have sections that are just tips and tricks on doing things, right? You could read through the book a little bit whenever you want to refresh your mind and, you know what I mean, think about how to solo roleplay and stuff like that. And I have a wonderful artist who I know would be down to make some cool art for it. And I just want to let you guys that that know that that idea is in my head. And everyone who has supported the project by donating on it.io because you can download everything for free or you can pay what you want. And a lot of people just been throwing a dollar or throwing, you know, a quarter or whatever it is at me donating what they think it's want uh what it's worth. I'm saving all of that. All of that is going to go towards making this book, this physical thing a reality straight up.
So, if you want to help support that project, that's the way to do it, right?
Check out the itch stuff. You can pay what you want for everything. That's the way to support that project. I'm not going to cash out any money from it.io until I'm ready to start working on that project as a whole. Very cool stuff.
Which also means on the rocket docket for me, I've been thinking a lot about solo travel and solo companions and other kinds of fun stuff like that.
there are chapters and things that I want to cover, which is fun because in the Solo Players Academy, there are some gaps and things that I still haven't like done. I didn't think I needed to do them, right? I didn't know I was the right guy to do it, but I could literally do videos on solo travel and make a PDF for that and do videos on solo companions and make a nice little thing for that, you know, and we can compile it all into one place. I love all the solo tools and supplements that we all have. Like the Perilous Wilds has fun mechanics for this or that. They aren't like they're really really good, but I feel like I could improve on them, you know what I mean? Um, and it's opened up my mind to that. So, question for you guys in the comments, right? If there is a solo thing that you want to see me cover, something you might want to see in this book, let me know in the comments. All right. Um, and I'll try to make a video about it. The solo combat video, there was actually someone who commented like, "Could you cover solo combat already?" And it finally pushed me over the edge. A lot of you guys who asked for it, and that comment, I was like, "Fine, I'm doing it next week."
And I actually did cuz I was already working on my own solo stuff for Ton Punk, actually doing combat for that.
And I was like, "You know what? Let's do it all together." So, uh, last week or the week before that, I actually spent a lot of time typing. It was an insane amount of time just typing and finishing PDFs for stuff. So, uh, that was fun.
Cool. And that's that. Let me know what you guys think about that in the future.
I told my partner, Sprinkles, I was like, you know, solo RPGs for dummies.
And she's like, yeah, but you'd have to call it something else. Like, yeah, cuz the for dummies line is probably trademarked, but what if I hit them up and I'm like, hey, help me publish this.
You know what I mean? Anyways, as you guys know here on the channel, I like to remain authentic, right? I do not consider myself a reviewer, but I do talk about TTRPGs. I have actually gotten some folks even this past month who said, "Hey, Turk, we want to pay you to talk about RRPG." And I responded to them. I even sent the email in our little solo like group chat, you know, with all the solo TTRPG YouTubers. I was like, "This is how I respond to these kind of emails." But basically, I was like, "Look, I will not accept your money, but you can send me a book and I'll cover it if I like it." Um, basically like I do not get paid for reviewing books, right? Um, that's just I just don't because I like to just be able to say whatever I want to say about these books and if I don't like it or you know even if I do like it and I don't like some parts of it like I want to be able to be authentic about that.
You know what I mean? So because of that about like two months ago or so I did open up a Kofi uh thing, right? Kofi Kofi Kofi Kofi I don't know. Um, and a lot of you guys have actually contributed over there which has been fantastic. Um, but one of the things I wanted to do with it was I actually wanted to be able to run polls and do like some suggestions and actually post like behind the scenes content on it that only you guys who supported over there could see it and stuff, right? Um, all the while a lot of you guys have become YouTube members, which I think is really cool because you can get extra emotes and you put your name up on screen and stuff like that and and um stuff like that. Um, and I actually put it like as low as I could. I think it was like $2.99 or something to become a member. Um, YouTube was like, "We suggest you put it higher than I was like, no, I don't I'm not doing that."
Anyways, Kofi isn't working out the way that I thought that it would. Uh, first of all, I didn't think that Kofi would still tax you and stuff, but um there is still taxes and things um because it goes through Kofi and then it goes through PayPal and PayPal taxes. And the whole reason I didn't use Patreon was because they're taking 15% or whatever it is from every like everything you get.
Patreon's taking that percentage. And I was like, that's so much to take from a donation or from a member, you know what I mean? Um but in the end, PayPal's doing it anyway. So, whoops.
You live and you learn, I guess, huh?
Um, so the thing is is that uh I now I'm I'm fully debating on combining Kofi and YouTube members into just doing the Patreon thing, but I want to judge and see what you guys think about it. Um, your support, first of all, I want to say thank you so much, right? Because of you guys, I get to remain authentic. The And I know it's not a lot right now, but I think about growth and I think about the future. And so I'm like prepping for the future already. instead of taking, you know, $500 from someone to talk about a TTRPG, I just say no. And like my community's got my back for the future. I don't need that right now.
Like, I'm not going to take your money.
You know what I mean? And it's because of the support. It's it's awesome, right? So, I just want to say thank you.
Thank you again, right? Keeps us authentic. It keeps us going and it's wonderful. So, I want to be able to do polls and behind the scenes stuff, and I want to be able to give away like extra little PDFs that I might make for a game that I don't think is good enough to actually post on Itch, but it might be useful to some of you guys. I want to still just be able to give it to you.
You know what I mean? For free on the Patreon and um other kinds of fun little stuff like that. So, let me know what you guys think about all that. Okay, I'm judging you. I mean, what you guys think? I talked about this in a previous video, but I was like, these update videos really feel like I'm talking to my investors doing an update with like a whole graph and I'm like, here's how things Oops, dropped a dice. Dice fall everywhere. Here's how things are going.
Um and here's our projected graph for the future. Like literally what it feels like sometimes. You guys are my investors. you know, you're investing your time right in the show.
Goodness. That being said, I also want to point out that I have done some giveaways for channel members. YouTube actually made me change. It was like, you cannot post your channel members right now because it says something about giveaways. I'm not allowed to put it as a perk on channel members, but I'm still doing it, just so you know. Um, we did we've done like three channel member giveaways so far with extra books and stuff that I have. Um, actually shout out Moose cuz Moose actually won the pirate borg starter set that we sent out uh last week or so. Um, so I still am doing that and it's been kind of a pain because I think that like I don't want to have to at everybody in Discord and you know what I mean. And I think that Patreon actually has giveaway features so it might make that a lot easier for me. Um, so I don't have to be like, "Hey, what's your address? You can trust me." You know what I mean? It's me. I swear that always feels weird. So I'm undecided but we'll see how it goes. And I just want you guys to know that it's always on my mind. And every week, actually, on Saturday or Sunday, I actually update the list that you guys see on the intro. And whenever I shout out all of you guys for supporting the show, I actually update that list either on Saturday or Sunday every week. And every time I update it, I'm always thinking about it and I'm like, hm, you know, these guys really are supporting the show. And I wish there was a better way to be able to do this. So, it's always on my mind. And thank all of you guys so much once again. Really do appreciate it. That being said, I will still take sponsors from other things that aren't TTRPGs. You know what I mean? Hook your boy up. I will do that.
You know what I mean? But like this is my this this right here is my love.
Okay. I will not be paid to say certain words about the thing that I love. All right. Raid Shadow Legends though. Hit your boy up. I don't you know I'm mostly joking. All right. Um that also being said, do you hear me? indie publishers. If you're afraid to email someone because you feel like you're too small to be able to afford to pay a YouTuber to cover your stuff, you do not pay me. Just send me your book. All right, a physical copy. All right, send it to my PO box listed on website. All right, send me physical copy and I'll check out. You don't need to pay me.
Very good. And then all the books always they will never ever go into a landfill.
Also important to me. All right. If I'm ever done with a book or something happens, I will give them away to other community members to use and love and hold. All right. But I just I I don't think Why would you throw away a TTRPG?
I don't know. Apparently, that's a thing. No landfills for this guy. Last month, I also did a couple of interview things, which was uh really fun. Um Paul um on What website is that? Substack.
Yes. The Rolling Alone podcast. I was actually on that. He interviewed me. We just It was early in the morning for me cuz they're located in England. Um and just asked me a couple questions and I was just, you know, we just kind of bullshitted for a little bit. It was kind of cool. Um and I've been on some other stuff. We'll see if that ever releases. Um, so it's very nice. And I'm also going to be, I think for one last time, I'm going to be on the Son of Oak YouTube channel this Wednesday. We're actually going to be playing some Legend of the Mist, like the first starter encounter. We're actually going to be playing through that, which is kind of cool. And Maya from Maya's solo room, um, is actually going to be game mastering us, which is cool cuz they do a wonderful job. That is that. And I'm looking to be more interview, more guest appearance, and bunches of places. So if you want to turkey on your show, all right, let me know. Send me email. All right. on website. Lastly, for updates, uh we're talking about the couch core characters a little bit here. If you didn't know, on the website, you can see all of them. I think I mentioned it earlier. Um we we have like six of them, and it's it's been really cool to develop out these stories. And so, this is the with Cassidy Cade with Notorious and Outr Rididers, Outsiders. This is actually the first time we're going to be taking a character and then doing a new system and continuing their story.
It's going to be the first time that I'm doing this. I plan to do it with all the characters. Um, like Willie the Wizard.
I think we're going to be doing Vega Bond with him in the future. Spoilers, I know, but just look at how sick this game looks. This is another one I actually purchased myself. I had to get it. It's just so good. There's a cool magic system in this. And that's why I want to do Willie the wizard with this magic system. We're going to continue his story as well. I got to figure out how to start new, but not new. So, this is the first time we're going to be doing that, and I'm really excited about it. Um, and I really hope that it goes well. And Abstractto has actually been redoing all the art for the characters so we can get them all like in the same art kind of same looking world. I think it's fantastic. Um they're doing it all in their style and it's really cool.
It's really cool to see that stuff. So I'm excited about that and I know some other folks are as well. So just know things are going well. We just finished um Fizz and Z1 GG's adventure. I was going to do five episodes of Land of E um but as it always does, interest kind of fell off after episode 4. And that's okay. But I already kind of think I've found another system that we're going to continue with him later in the year.
Don't want to mention it now because things might change. But I'm always reading systems and I'm always thinking about systems. I'm always thinking about like, oo, which character could I play with this? Which is a lot of fun. But one thing I've noticed is that I play a lot of apocalypse games and right now I have sci-fi and fantasy characters. Um, Crash and Mash, if you watched the recent Doom Punk actual play, are two amazing characters that I really want to add into the couch core. Maybe instead of Hex the farmer. We'll see. Um, but I realized that I don't have steady apocalypse characters. I have sci-fi fantasy, but I play a lot of apocalypse and I don't have an apocalypse guy. And so, we're going to have to make one. I think we just are. We need a couch core apocalypse character. We'll see how that goes. I got to think about a theme or something, you know. Righteous. And I think that's it for channel updates. I said a lot of words. I don't know how much of that I'm going to cut out. We'll see. Uh, mostly just ranting about dumb stuff. um if the whole rant about um Tide being a sponsor is still in, you'll know. All right, moving on. Now, we're going to get into the personal stuff, all right, and the the mental health stuff, cuz I think that mental health is is just an important thing for me. All right, if you got them, now's the time to pull out your we're not okay merchandise. All right. Um that is my safety mug. We'll put it there when we talk about mental health stuff. So, I think a little bit of a trigger warning here. Um I did end up in the hospital.
All right. So, if if you know, injury and stuff like that is a trigger warning for you, um, skip forward about 3 4 minutes. Okay. Um, but I started taking a new mental health med. My psychiatrist thought, maybe you got bipolar, too, with a big shrug and sent me on a quest for new medication. It took me almost 4 weeks to even get this medication cuz it it kept just not showing up. Um, which was very annoying. Um, so I ended up taking it for the first time like four days before I was supposed to go see her again because she was like, "The meditation takes four weeks to kick in, so come see me then." But I took it, yeah, few days before I was supposed to go see her. But, um, I took it one day and felt really, really bad. Um, and potential side effects of this bad boy was that you're going to feel bad, um, after it starts to wear off. You know, you're kind of like going to go into withdrawal. And so I thought I took it early in the morning and I thought, okay, because of how bad the side effects are, I'm going to take it at night. So, I was trying to wait until the next night, but I didn't make it that far. Um, it was like little the afternoon. I took the second pill and then that night I ended up in the hospital. Um, I had such a bad reaction to this thing. Um, I no details here, but bathroom problems, right? Lots of bathroom problems. Um, also from my mouth, bathroom problems. And because of how violent it was, my lungs were having issues cuz I have weak little baby [ __ ] lungs apparently. um probably from all the years of abuse, you know, with cigarettes and other kinds of stuff. Um because how violently I was like puking and stuff, my lungs collapsed a little bit. So I was in the hospital for that.
In a nutshell, I had the worst possible reaction to this medication and some people it's actually been fatal for some people. I don't think I got to that point, but thinking about it like having had been that bad was insanely scary.
But I was on oxygen and everything else.
And if you go back and watch some videos from the beginning of what it May, you can see how bad I look. My hair's all green. My eyes are like messed up because I recorded Monday a bunch of videos and then was in the hospital Tuesday. So like I was on the medication, feeling really bad, still trying to record and do things. Um just because of how important recording and staying on schedule and and how much fun I have doing this. I was like, even though I don't feel good, I'm going to do it anyway. Um, and you can see it in especially in some of the shorts I actually did for Legend of the Mist for Son of Oak. There's a bunch of them where I just look at the video and I can't watch it because I I know what I'm feeling. I'm like, "Oh god, that guy is suffering." Um, end of the day, we are here now and we're okay. Um, absolutely.
But it was very scary. So, I actually have already gone to a follow-up doctor's appointment um where I've had my lungs listened to. um she's, you know, there's some scarring on my lungs and stuff and and other kinds of fun stuff like that. Um but I have a follow-up physical here in a couple weeks again. So, we're going to just keep we're just going to stay on top of it. But as it stands right now, I have a little bit of PTSD, so I do not plan to take any new mental health medication. I just do not I'm even a little scared to even continue taking my old medication.
So, I'm not going to do that either. Um so, we're just going to, you know, we're just going to ride this out. We're going to focus on our body first before we focus on our mind. All right? cuz mind is useless if body if body not there anymore you know if you unal alived what's the point of fixing mind anyways I'm trying to laugh it off and do it like comedy but it was very it was very crazy so what I want to say to you guys from this um is just be careful and stay on top of things you know that second day as soon as I started feeling that bad we were immediately at the emergency room you know what I mean um and our emergency room was so bad I was still sitting there waiting like basically liquids everywhere for like four hours in a waiting room it was awful Um, anyways, that is that. Okay, we're good. We're healthy, but it was scary. It was a scary time last month.
And I also even like um canceled some stuff and I pushed some videos forward and stuff because of how bad I was feeling. But at the end of the day, we still ended up covering a lot of stuff and we had a pretty good time. All right, we really did. So, that just shows how important that this kind of is to me. You know what I mean? The games, the games and the channel and the content creation, all of it together, you know what I mean? It's just a bunch of my favorite things. So, come rain or shine, baby. I'll be right here.
doing my dang thing. Yeah, I even have a note in here in my little bullet list that I've been thinking a lot about mortality, which I've actually reached out to my father. I want to go try to spend more time with him and and me and Sprinkles have been planning more trips this year now that she's feeling a little bit better because mortality is crazy. You know what I mean? Whenever you're faced with death, you know, mortality can be something to think about. So, yes. All right, moving on.
Everything else going pretty good. I still really enjoy my job. I love working at a pet store. Um, we actually have been trying to do some outreach for animals and stuff. There's uh an animal rescue here that's like crazy full of dogs currently. It's very sad. We actually went there and we got to see all the dogs and we um our pets were actually donated some treats. So, we got to give them all treats and stuff and um you know what I mean? Take some videos of them. Really trying to advocate for some of these stray dogs in our town cuz they're so cute. You know, they they need homes. Um animals mean a lot to me as you guys know. So, being able to work at this pet store and go and do the stuff for the animals and other kinds of stuff is just very cool. and and it's it's like remembering to appreciate it, you know, remembering to put in the work and appreciate it. It's just been great.
So, it's been wonderful. Um, we went and I did all the recording and and Sprinkles was like giving the dogs all the treats and stuff and eh, it was a good time. It was very sad, but it was good. So, speaking of Sprinkles, um, a lot of you guys are curious. Um, she is, you know, about a month out from her surgery now. Um, and she's healing up pretty well. Things are going okay.
We've done her checkups. Everything is all right. She still has weird side effects and things that we're dealing with, but she's so much better now than she was 3 months ago. Um, like it's insane the contrast. Like not going to the ER every single week um has been amazing. Um, you know, whenever stuff like that happens, it really does remind you like maybe things ain't so bad, you know, and whenever things are okay. Um, so she's a lot to think about, but she's she's doing better now. She does have uh ongoing health issues with her spine and stuff. So, she does walk with a walker about 50% of the time. But that's kind of the main thing that we're dealing with now, which is such a relief, you know, so much better than everything else. So much better. My goodness. So, things are on the up and up, everybody.
It's wonderful. I think I kind of put my heart on my sleeve there and unvealed a lot for you guys. But that's what these videos are about, right? me kind of just being open with y'all because I feel like in all my other videos I'm just talking about TTRPGs and I'm just talking about, you know, my thoughts on them and playing games and stuff.
Sometimes you kind of want to get to know the guy who's talking about it and his processes, right? And so here I am doing those things. Yes, I've got a full schedule where I write down everything I'm doing. I script out all my stuff. I send out all my emails. I edit all my stuff and do all my own graphic design.
And here I am, right?
I spend goodness um if I have free time it's probably me editing. That's the way that I roll, baby. Um and that's how I get so many videos out as I do every week. I actually um crazy. Last week we did five five videos last week. It was a lot. But The Division came and I had to cover The Division before the Kickstarter ended, which actually ends tomorrow, by the way. Um they didn't pay me to say that. I just for any couch crew folks who are interested in that game, I wanted to talk about it. So, five videos. Yeah. And the week before that we did four. when I was in the ER, I still did three. Um, yeah. So, I still did a lot of a lot of videos this past month, which we're actually going to talk about more on tonight's live stream. And this will be happening at 5:00 Pacific Standard Time. So, if you're on the East Coast, nearby Florida, it'll be 8:00 um p.m. Yes, we're going to hang out for about an hour. So, come join us. We'll talk more about what happened last month. All right? But for now, this is the future.
If you have nothing else to say about anything else, all right, don't feel like you have to say, "Oh, Turk, it's good to hear you're okay." You don't have to say that. All right, no worries.
What I would love to hear though from you is what TTRPG you're most excited to hear me talk about this year month. All right, stuff from Terrible Games or Galliant Knight or maybe Fluff and Fury.
All right, cuz even though Fluff and Fury isn't solo, I still have to cover it cuz it looks sick. Could be Alone Against the Zone or, you know, maybe Three Die 6 or Plasmatics. Could be fun stuff. All right, let me know what you guys think. Okay, and I hope to see you on some of the actual plays that we're doing this month of Legend of the Mist and of Sci-Fi Notorious. Could be fun.
I'm backpedaling cuz I'm nervous because I opened up a lot. So, you know what?
Before we do all that, we're going to say goodbye. I hope to see you guys later. For now, everybody, take a seat on the couch by subscribing or at least until you find yourselves doing an update video of your own. That's right, my friends. Thank you so much for watching. Thank you. Thank you for everything. And um update video turkey.
We'll see you next month. That's right.
Bye-bye, friends. See you later.
Toodaloo. What happened to that? Oh, >> share.
