Showers move into North Texas as weather threat builds

[00:00:02]Well, as we head throughout the next couple of days, I'm tracking an increasing threat of severe weather and increasing temperatures as we head into the weekend. So, lots to get to. So, let's get right into the latest here with your forecast. And for the first alert, for the most part today, we had lots of sunshine, but a little bit more cloud coverage is pushing its way in from the west. We have some showers along I20 that I'll detail here in a second. Highs today climbed into the 90s, but currently we're holding steady in the mid 80s here across the majority of North Texas. Parts of southwest Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle climbed into the triple digits today. So yes, the heat was definitely on. But now tracking those showers. We have cloudy skies, some mist, maybe some drizzle here across the metroplex, but the next good chance of rain, organized chance of rain and showers continues here off to our west along I 20. We have this little batch of showers that's slowly moving its way up to the east and to the northeast about 30 mph. Time of arrival you can see here for DFW, we're talking right around 8:30. So, right around sunset, we will see some showers crossing the county line here as we head into this evening. So, we're not done with the rain chances just yet.

[00:01:08]Temperature- wise, I talked about how the heat will be on and that's just the case here for the weekend. Saturday, Sunday, highs in the low 90s. We'll make it to the 90s there on Monday as well.

[00:01:18]But after that, a little bit of a pattern change will bring more moderate conditions and increasing rain chances, which is why we have a First Alert weather day in effect for Monday, the 18th, tracking strong to severe storms, which could include chances of large hail, damaging winds in the forecast here as we head into Monday afternoon.

[00:01:35]Here's the overall storm zone that we are tracking primarily for Monday. You can see that it's mainly to the north and to the west. So, if you live along I35 to the north to the Red River and if you live along or north of the I20 corridor here to the west of the Metroplex, that zone right there is where we're going to see the highest potential of strong to severe storms heading into Monday afternoon. But it's not just Monday. We're tracking that risk of showers and storms. We'll see a low chance of showers here for the weekend. Saturday, Sunday, but then after that, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, we'll be tracking increasing chances of showers and storms. More rainfall even after that. So, this is going to be a very wet stretch of weather as we head into next week. But overall, at least for tomorrow, lots of sunshine and highs will climb into the 90s. So, it is going to be a very hot forecast here as we go forward. But I do want to point out that overall once again it's going to be about the heat and it's going to be about the storm chances here as we go forward. So I do want to point out with that extended forecast. Yeah, take a look at this. Highs in the 90s for the weekend. The weekend overall looks good.

[00:02:39]We'll see a little bit more sunshine on Saturday. So Saturday looks like it's going to be the best day of the weekend for anything outdoors. And then after that, tracking that chance of showers, storms, and severe weather on Monday.

[00:02:50]We'll be watching out for more storm chances there Tuesday into Wednesday as temperatures drop from the low 90s to the low 80s. And it's going to be a wet forecast here.
