Why Do Onions Make You Cry? Wolfoo Explore - Funny Science Stories | Educational Videos
Added:Woohoo! Explore H.
>> Oh h Doctor Who, why are you crying?
>> Oh, I'm not crying. It's just this onion.
>> You don't like onion?
>> H I'll explain to you. Let knowledge click.
There are three types of tears in humans. reflex tears, emotional tears, and basal tears. When we cut onions, the tears we cry are reflex tears. The knife breaks tiny cells inside the onion.
These cells quickly make a stinky gas that floats into the air. The gas touches the sensitive surface of your eyes. Right away, the nerves in the eyes send an emergency signal to the brain.
Something is dangerous. The eyes are being irritated. The brain is very quick. It tells the tear glands to work hard, pushing out lots of tears to wash away the stinky gas. These tears are not just water. They also have special chemicals that protect the eyes and fight bacteria.
So when tears fall while cutting onions, it's not because we're weak. It's because our eyes are being protected.
The next type of tears is emotional tears. Emotional tears can happen when we are sad, angry or happy. These tears help us feel better and release emotions. And then there are basil tear.
The tear that are always in our eyes even when we are not crying. Every time we blink, a thin layer of basil tears covers our eyes, keeping them moist, clean, and clear. Without these tears, our eyes would get dry, stingy, and uncomfortable.
>> So, tears aren't just for crying.
They're also a way for our eyes to protect themselves.
>> That's all for now. Stay tuned for our next exploration.
And then the ghost jumped out.
>> Oh, there are little bumps on your skin.
>> You look like a plucked goose.
>> Um, >> that's called goosebumps.
I'll explain it to you. Let knowledge click. Like woofu said, goosebumps are named after the goose skin which has tiny bumps where the feather will puff.
Goosebumps are the natural reaction of our body when we feel cold, scared or very excited.
Under our skin are hairful with little muscles at the bottom called the erecty.
When the muscles tighten, they pull the hairs up and make small bums just like a goose skin. A long time ago, our ancestors had a lot more hair on their bodies. When we get cold, the brain sends out a chemical called adrenaline.
It makes the erectipilly muscle tighten and lift the hairs.
The race hair trap air close to the skin and keep the body warm by stopping heat from going out.
When we are scared or very emotional, the same thing happens. A body thinks we need to react. The race hair make people look bigger and scarier to chase away danger.
It's like when a cat puffs up its fur, right, Dr. Hoot?
>> That's right.
>> Now, we have tiny hairs, so goosebump keep us warm or scare others, but it's still a fun and interesting part of our body.
Here's a question for you. Why do we get goosebumps?
A to turn into a real goose.
B. To keep warm and for self-defense.
>> C. Because it's feel like ants crawling on your skin.
>> Correct answer is B. It's a natural reaction of the body to keep us warm and to scare away enemies.
>> You got it right.
>> That's all for now. Stay tuned for our next exploration.
Oh.
Uh. Uh-oh. I've swallowed it.
>> Do you know what will happen if we swallow gums?
>> Let knowledge. Plague.
This place will be all mine.
Don't worry, it won't be that bad. When we chew, the substance in our saliva mix with the chewing gum.
When this mixture is swallowed, it quickly comes into contact with the acid in the stomach.
>> Due to the chewy structure of gum, it is difficult for it to break down.
>> How can my stomach get rid of them then?
Don't worry. Even though chewing gum can be digested, your stomach will still push it out within about 3 days, just like other food.
>> Huh.
>> Ah. Mhm.
>> Huh?
Swallowing one piece of chewing gum isn't dangerous, but you shouldn't swallow too many. Be sure to tell when an adult does right away if you accidentally do.

>> Oh, what's that smell?
>> Sorry, Buffo. I I don't know what's happening to me.
>> Sounds like your tummy has something to say. I'll tell you what it is. Let knowledge click.
Hm. When you eat, food goes into your tummy. There are millions of tiny helpful germs inside.
>> They work hard to break down food, especially things like beans, green veggies, or sweet potatoes.
>> While working, the tiny germs also make gas. It's like bubbles rising when water boils in a pot. This gas slowly builds up inside your belly. Your body is super smart. When there's too much gas, your tummy pushes it out so it doesn't get bloated or hurt. And that's when view farts.
When you try to hold it in, the gas keeps building up. Your tummy gets tight. It might hurt. And sometimes it just pops out like a balloon pumped up too much. Oh wow.
>> Actually, everyone farts.
>> Grown-ups, kids, even cats and dogs.
Everyone does it. It's how the buddy lets out extra gas to feel better.
>> Farting is normal, but remember to do it politely, like going somewhere else, saying sorry if you surprise someone. and never laughing at a friend if they fart by accident.
>> That's it for today. Join with you as he continues exploring the amazing world in the next episodes.
Sorry.
>> Kitty, stay still.
Huh?
>> Woof. Your cat doesn't like water.
>> Do you know why most cats are afraid of water? Let knowledge click.
Ancient cats live in a dry places with little water and they learn to hunt without needing to swim.
Just like their ancestor, cats today aren't used to being in water. A cat's fur is super soft and light. When it gets wet, the fur becomes heavy and sticky, making it harder for them to move around.
When their paws aren't touching the ground, cats lose control of their movements, which make them scared.
When they're bathed, the cat's natural sand disappears. They immediately start licking themselves to restore that familiar smell.
>> So, how can I keep my cat clean?
>> Brush their fur to remove loose hair and dirt. Gently wipe their fur with a soft towel so your kitty won't get scared.
Clean the little box everyday. If your cat is really dirty, ask an adult to help give it a bath.
