OctoKrool effectively highlights how *Deep Impact* derives its power from the sobering reality of loss rather than the hollow spectacle of a perfect rescue. It is a poignant reminder that the most enduring disaster stories are those that respect the gravity of human sacrifice.

>> I don't think so.
>> You just said you didn't know.
>> Well, it's not McGrath. It's It's something else.
>> Damn, bro. It's something else.
>> Yeah, it's probably a satellite.
Let's uh take another picture. We'll send it to Dr. Wolf.
>> Yes, sir.
>> It's McGrath.
>> Mount McGrath. Yo, >> he knows the stars and [ __ ] man. Don't doubt him.
>> The astronomy club. Damn nerds.
NO PIZZA, BRO. HE'S EATING PIZZA. HE'S A HE'S a cool guy.

>> Who's got olives ON THAT BAD BOY?
>> HE'S GOT OLIVES. He's got tomatoes. Man, he's living the dream, dude. Eating pizza, listening to some opera [ __ ] man. Bro's coming in tonight.
>> Oh, we're zooming in. Yeah, we got to check that star real quick. Go ahead and such a hurry.
>> Oh, I think it just is it just an asteroid >> or a meteorite? Yeah, like a asteroid meteor kind of >> dude. That's crazy. It's called deep impact for that.
>> Server down, of course.
Oh, yo, the floppy disc. Let's go. Hell yeah.
Oh, that's cool.
>> Yo, bro, let's >> Whoa, whoa, whoa. Dude, PICK A LIGHT.
YO, THERE'S NO WAY. YO, IS THIS DEEP IMPACT? IS THIS THE IMPACT?
>> IS THIS THE DEEP IMPACT?
>> HOLY [ __ ] >> THERE'S CAR ON TRUCK ACTION.
>> YO, he's bobbing and weaving, man. Holy [ __ ] dude. Keep your eyes on the road, man. Well, this guy's kind of in two lanes as well.
Oh [ __ ] >> There's no shot, >> BRO. NO WAY. HE GETS ABSOLUTELY RAILED HERE. Oh [ __ ] [ __ ] YO, THAT'S A DEEP IMPACT. HOLY [ __ ] >> NO WAY IN HELL. THERE'S NO WAY.
>> I didn't think he was going to blow up.
>> No, the explosion was crazy. I THOUGHT HE'D TUMBLE DOWN AND GET HURT. NOW HE BLOWS UP AND DIES.
>> SHE STANDS beside him and the priest says, "Dearly beloved >> judge."
>> And the judge says, "Blah blah blah blah blah. Sickness and health blah blah blah blah. Do you, Jason Learner, take um chlorine?"
>> Chlorine.
>> What? Chloe.
>> What did I say?
>> Chlorine.
>> You said Chlorine.
>> Chlorine.
>> Name's Chloe.
>> Imagine calling your kid Chlorine.
That's an insane name.
>> Jenny, you now have a new stepmother who is 2 years older than you.
>> Whoa, that's kind of bizarre.
>> I was with the secretary since he's been governor of Connecticut. Came to Washington with him. I moved here because I was dedicated to his career.
And then he [ __ ] me.
WHAT? IS THAT PART OF THE WHOLE TRUST?
>> I SHOULD say I didn't have sex with him, but somebody sure did. He's about to come out, so he resigned.
>> Oh.
>> Do you have proof?
>> He thinks he was being so clever.
He had a private phone line installed in his office. Nobody else could answer it.
>> What a That's crazy.
>> That's insane, dude.
>> I name a name and get someone into trouble.
>> So, you do have a name?
>> Just her first name. Oh my god. I'm going to say it. Ellie.
>> Ellie. Ellie.
>> Nothing else.
>> I think the president knows about it, too. Overheard the secretary talking to him about her.
Isn't Washington's sick?
>> Uh-oh. Uh-oh.
>> Can I help you?
>> Well, actually, we're looking for your mom. Is she around?
>> Mom, I'm sick. She's not here.
>> Stranger danger. Run. Yeah. Get out of here.
>> My wife is sick. She's in the hospital.
That's why I resigned. Everybody knows this.
>> Oh, we could talk about your wife or we could just talk about Ellie.
>> Ooh, the name drop. Oh no, they're rolling.
>> Personally, I think it's a mistake to run the story. But hey, what the hell?
>> Why not? What difference does anything make anymore?
>> Oh, he knows.
>> Oh, no.
>> That's why he has all that food. He knows about the meteor coming on the deep impact. Bro, >> I know you're just a reporter, >> but you used to be a person, >> right?
>> Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
>> Reporters are not humans.
>> Clearly not.
>> Weird.
>> That's why I'm thinking he knows about like the uh the meteorite. There's no way you have that many canned goods and you're planning a trip, bro.
>> Dude, maybe he's just like, I'm done with this [ __ ] I'm selling my house and I'm living on a boat forever. Maybe. I don't even know.
>> Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay. The president has a mistress named Ellie. And Rittenhouse pretends that he's having the affair and takes the fall and resigns. And the president buys him A YACHT.
>> WHOA. [ __ ] >> OH.
>> UHOH.
>> Oh no.
>> Oh damn.
>> FBI, you were the police, man. Okay.
What do I take care of? Just step back to my car.
>> Maybe Ellie's actually an alien. I think it might be a code word for the meteorite. Aliens. All right. Aliens, probably.
Oh, Big Morgan Freeman.
>> Mr. President, I'm not interested in using Ellie to further my career.
>> What do you know about Ellie?
>> I know you should have picked a better cover story than a sick wife.
>> See what'd that tell you?
What if we go public in 48 hours? Now that's doable, isn't it?
>> That would be very difficult, Mr. President.
>> Morton.
>> Yeah, look at all those canned goods. Oh [ __ ] Oh yeah.
>> I'm letting you go because I don't want another headache and I'm trusting you because I know what this can do for your career. It might seem that we have each other over the same barrel, Miss Larner, but it just seems that way. Whoa.
>> Damn. Okay.
>> May I have the first question?
I'll see you Tuesday, Miss Lena.
>> Damn. Damn. No reply to that.
>> I think you're right. They're preparing for something bad.
>> Yeah, it's the meteor coming in. It code word is Ellie. E. Well, he said e. He used it as an acronym. He didn't even use it like as a name.
>> Paleontology. What does paleontology have to do with anything?
>> Oh, come on.
>> It has a lot to do with paleontology, actually. Oh, yeah. Uhoh.
>> Yep.
>> Extension level event.
>> How's written house gone?
>> Uh, no sign of the wife yet.
>> Is she missing?
>> No, we're still working on it. We'll get there.
>> Oh, no. It's a dull story. I I promise you next time we'll get you something more exciting.
>> Oh, it's exciting. All right.
>> J.
>> Hey, Chloe.
>> Would you like some champagne, Miss >> Martini? I did not like that.
>> No, that was kind of weird. What was the kiss on the nose?
>> I'm disturbed that you didn't come to our wedding.
>> Jason, you promise.
>> I know.
>> Disturbed? Why are you disturbed?
>> This is from us for you.
>> What is it?
>> Are you not going to open it?
>> Oh god, this is so awkward.
>> Yeah, this feels very uncomfortable. And I don't know why. This just feels weird.
Let's see what we got. What do we got?
What do we have? Another a box in a box.
BOX IN A BOX.
>> OH, WHAT ARE THOSE?
>> OH, EARRINGS.
>> WELL, are we going to have an evening or no?
>> Jenny, I know that you hate me. I know that you have terrible things that you want to say to me.
>> Okay. Is your self-aware? Cool.
>> Life goes on.
>> You have to get over it.
>> Life goes on. Okay.
>> Well, that's that's a bit funny there.
>> We'll see.
>> We'll see.
You need to get back together with mom >> because she's all alone in the world and she needs you right now. Okay.
>> Okay.
>> I know you think I'm a bad person. I'm really not. And I don't hate you. I got to I just I got to go.
>> It's just weird. But like >> Stuart send you here without telling me?
>> No.
You know what? If Stuart thinks that he can push me out of the White House.
>> Hi B. Right this way. I've got you right down here.
>> Oh, she's not with the police.
>> UHOH.
>> UHOH.
>> Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the United States.
>> Hello everybody.
>> 10 seconds.
>> Morgan Freeman's been the president more than once, hasn't he?
>> I think so. But he has that kind of like aura about him that, you know, it suits him. There was a remote possibility that the comet was on a path that could bring it into direct contact with the Earth.
>> A deep impact as you would.
>> Hit all the time by rocks and meteors.
Some of them the size of cars, some no bigger than your hand. But the comet we discovered is the size of New YORK CITY.
>> OH [ __ ] >> [ __ ] >> TO the battery about 7 miles long.
Put another way, this comet is larger than Mount Everest.
>> WOW.
>> Ever television. I want it everywhere.
>> The hail pop standups >> and graphics. I NEED GRAPHICS.
>> GRAPHICS. GET THIS MAN SOME GRAPHICS.
>> SO, FOR the past 8 months, the United States and Russia have been building the largest spaceship ever constructed.
It's being built in orbit around the Earth, and we call it the Messiah. Whoa.
Kind of goes hard.
>> In two months, they will leave on the shuttle Atlantis to board the Messiah.
This is the crew that will stop the comet.
>> It's like Armageddon. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Same vibe. Does everyone hear drill?
>> Godspeed to you all. We're counting on you.
>> Thank you, >> God. Beijing, >> dude. Godspeed is such a cool word, man.
Every time people use it, I I feel like we got to use IT MORE. LET'S BRING BACK GODSPEED. OUR SOCIETY WILL continue as normal. Work will go on. You will PAY YOUR BILLS.
>> NO, >> BRO. COME ON.
>> Why wasn't this announcement made sooner?
>> Well, until we knew we could build the rocket and the comet could be intercepted, we saw no reason to alarm the planet.
>> Smart. Very smart.
>> Isn't it true, sir, that not everyone in your administration is convinced that the Messiah will save us?
WHOA, >> THAT'S A QUESTION.
>> WOW, THAT'S A QUESTION. THAT was good.
Holy [ __ ] >> Sir, what is the comet's name?
>> The two scientists who found the comet were killed in a car crash while racing from their observatory to alert the world.
>> So, we named it for them. Wolf Beerman.
>> That's Leo Beerman.
>> Damn, >> this is so weird.
>> Dr. Wolf from Astronomy Club.
>> Yeah, I guess.
>> I think it's really neat. Nobody on our block discovered the world he was going to end this for.
>> Still very much alive.
>> This is neat.
>> What happened was that Dr. Wolf saw the comet in my photograph.
>> So he shared the discovery with me.
>> God.
>> And then he was killed in that crash.
And >> that was more than a crash, my guy. All right. That was that was brutal.
>> Jason, >> you know you're going to have sex a lot more NOW THAN ANYONE ELSE.
>> WHAT?
>> WHOA. DAMN. MAYBE THAT'S THE DEEP IMPACT.
>> YO. HEY.
>> HEY.
>> REALLY?
>> THANK YOU.
>> That was crazy.
>> Oh my god.
>> People always get sex, Mr. Perry.
>> That's the main reason it's good to be famous.
>> YO, THAT KID'S GOING TO GO FAR in prison.
>> What do you think of the crew?
>> Heroes all. It's the finest group I ever had the privilege of working with.
>> Off the record. And they're smarter in better shape than we ever were in the old days. Sober. Serious.
>> Sober.
>> You're here because the powers that be think we need a familiar face on this trip. You're here for public relations.
>> I'm here because the powers that be know that I'm the only person on this mission who's ever landed on the moon and I have 500 landings on aircraft carrier.
>> We've trained on >> on flight simulator, right?
>> Yeah, I do. I'm sorry, but experience beats any form of training you could even like think of.
>> Yeah, doing the real [ __ ] is all you need.
>> Yeah, the real shit's what you need to do. This guy's done it a bazillion times, man. He's like the king of space.
>> It's like, bro, you're just here for nostalgia purposes.
>> Yeah, >> bro. Just like Luke Skywalker showing up. Like, what the [ __ ] >> Good luck and God speed.
>> God speed.
>> Three, two, one.
>> Take me to space. Take me home.
>> 4 3 2 1 zero.
>> Punch it, Chewy.
>> Start. What about me?
>> You're on the anchor, Dad. And you could have been there a lot sooner.
>> What are you talking about?
>> You know what I'm talking about. Don't ever hold back a story from me again.
>> Oh.
Uh-oh. Uh-oh. night.
>> Yeah. Well, it's like you can't straight up just say, "Well, the president told me not to."
>> Yeah. Not even that, but the other woman was not giving her a chance to explain.
Yeah.
>> Well, not even that, but didn't want her to succeed as well.
>> True. You know, >> sweet mother of God.
>> Holy [ __ ] That is an extinction level event.
>> Loading first nuke now.
Locked and loaded. All right, so we're going to blast this thing. For some reason, I feel like it's just like blasting it might not work as well, you know? Hey, man, cuz this thing's huge.
Ginormous.
>> mounted inside the cargo bay of the Messiah. Now, these images are delayed by approximately 20 seconds due to the distance they must travel.
>> Hell, I delay it by a few minutes just to make in case they fail.
What? That'd be crazy to show on live TV.
>> They're unsure whether or not >> holding hands, bro. Big guy.
>> That is a decent.
>> Roger.
That does not look like a good time. Oh [ __ ] Uh-oh. BIG RED LIGHT IS >> OH [ __ ] Just took off the satellite on the top there. Holy [ __ ] >> Fired.
>> Oh [ __ ] That's cool. We're latching on.
Another W. Hey man, that's experience right there.
Almost looks like snow. I think it kind of It's cold, right? I'd assume so.
>> They are drilling machines that burrow to a depth of 100 m where they wait to be detonated. Each one carries a 5,000 kiloton warhead.
>> Kiloton? Holy [ __ ] Whoa.
>> Drilling. We're drilling. All right.
What happens if they do not get off the comet surface in time?
>> The sun striking the comet will cause the temperature to rise 350° in just a few minutes. Activate the highspeed gas jets.
Well, if that happens, it will be like trying to work in a minefield.
>> Mark, what's your m readout?
>> Oh my god. Wait, this is going to be >> shit's going to blow up. Shit's going to get hot.
>> 75 ft.
>> Is that enough?
>> No, that'll just break pieces off the surface. That's not deep enough.
>> Yeah, fish. I know that's not deep enough.
>> Dude, you need a deeper impact.
>> Roll the tether. Let's go get them.
>> If we go after them, we may not have enough fuel to get off the surface.
>> Roll the goddamn tether.
>> So, they're going to get closer to get them.
>> Yeah.
>> WHOA.
>> OH [ __ ] >> Oh [ __ ] Where's your visor down? Get your visor down.
>> VISOR DOWN, YOU IDIOT. VISOR DOWN. OH, I THINK I BLINDED HIM.
This is a disaster.
Mark McCell.
>> Oh my god.
>> Are we going to try and rescue the other guy in some way?
>> We can't just leave him. We have to go back.
>> If we go back for Gus, we all die.
>> We can't just leave him in space.
>> Sit down, mate. Sit down.
It's okay.
>> Oh, >> Gus Partenza, a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and graduate of Carnegie Melon University.
>> Jeez, you just get blasted off like that.
>> That's a tough way to go, man.
>> Partenza was selected specifically for this mission. Not only for his medical expertise, but also for his dedication to the advancement of space technology.
>> That's crazy. Only medical expertise guys gone.
Oh my lord, >> HE GOT ROASTED. Holy [ __ ] >> Once again, let me remind you there is a 20 second delay. So when the picture comes back to us, the comet should already have been knocked off its present course.
>> I don't even think you could see again after that.
>> I really don't know.
Like, did it like fry his eyes like eggs?
>> That's what I'm assuming. 3 2 1 now.
>> Holy [ __ ] >> Does that work though?
>> Decompression in area 6.
>> Oh my god. Did they underestimate the blast radius? I think so.
>> Yes, I'm still here.
It didn't work.
>> I don't think so.
>> This computerenhanced radar image from Houston shows how the detonation succeeded. However, did not destroy the comet. There are now two pieces. One 6 mi wide, the other a mile AND A HALF.
>> WHAT?
>> BOTH are still on the path towards Earth.
>> Wait, what? We're Is Earth getting sandwiched? First, our strategic missile command is preparing to coordinate with the Russians a massive strike of Titan missiles to intercept the comets.
>> All right.
>> In the soft limestone of Missouri, we've been preparing a network of immense caves and they're almost finished and we can put a million people in them. And that million people can survive there underground for 2 years.
>> Wow. On August 10th, a computer will randomly select 800,000 Americans to join the 200,000 scientists, doctors, engineers, teachers, soldiers, and artists who have already been chosen.
>> Oh.
>> Stay off the roads after sunset. Crimes against persons or property will be dealt with swiftly and harshly.
>> Yeah, cuz you already know there's going to be people who are >> there's going to be chaos. Like, straight up. You know there's people that are just going to take advantage of the situation.
>> That's crazy. that only 800,000 random people are being selected. Like >> yeah, it sounds like a lot, but it really isn't.
>> Maybe some people will sell their spot.
>> Oh >> yeah, right.
>> Maybe they're overtly confident that they they don't worry, they they got it.
The missiles got it.
>> Or it's just for the gamble of it. If it doesn't work, I'm rich. If it doesn't, then no. Well, >> maybe they're like, I don't really want to rebuild, you know? I don't want to be the guy rebuilding [ __ ] I'd rather just make some money and get out of here. No men and women over 50 in the general population will be included in the lottery.
>> Whoa.
Wow. What a crazy reveal. 50 and over.
You're gone.
>> Get him out of here. I get it. But wow, that's crazy. Yeah, that's harsh.
>> Yes, this is Ellen.
>> How to grow your own food and how to purify water.
>> We've been pre-selected.
I think it's because he he found it.
>> Are you going to turn off our phone?
They could be calling >> beginning on August 9th. The only >> Don't tell anybody.
>> Yeah.
>> Do not mention this to anyone.
>> I've been looking all over for you.
>> Why weren't you at school?
>> My dad said I didn't have to go.
>> Fair.
>> I talked to civil defense. They said if you and I got married, we'd be family and I could GET YOU IN.
>> WOW.
>> WHOA. WOW.
>> THEY'RE not your family. I don't want to go without my parents. You don't have to. I'm the famous Leo Beerman, and I haven't used my fame for anything. But I got them to let your family go, too.
>> Oh [ __ ] Yo, bros going all out. That's a big brain play right there, buddy. I'm saving you from extinction.
>> Dude, that's a hell of a workaround, though.
Honestly, >> not even just that. Can you imagine the future? You have an argument like, "Hey honey, >> I saved YOU FROM AN EXTINCTION.
>> I LITERALLY MADE SURE YOU WOULDN'T DIE."
>> YEAH, I SAVED I saved your family's life FROM EXTINCTION.
>> I SAVED YOU AND your family from the >> [ __ ] that blew up the dinosaurs. Yeah, I saved you from that, >> sir. My parents are coming, too.
>> Wait, wait. The hot >> H ne >> Oh, no.
>> It's not here.
>> No, no, no. It has to be there. Victa sent their names to the White House.
>> They're not there.
>> Just check the goddamn list again.
Give me your bag.
>> They must be there.
>> Ellen, give me a bag. Sweet.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> Sarah, you need to go.
>> No, I have to stay with you.
>> I'm not going anywhere without you. Don't know what to do.
>> Come or stay, young lady. This bus is moving out.
>> On the bus.
>> Get on the bus. Let's go.
>> Chuck, we'll work it out when we get there.
>> Yeah, we'll work it out when we get there.
>> Yeah, LIKE THAT'S GOING TO >> ALL RIGHT, BUDDY. Thanks for the reassurance, >> bro. That sucks. Not even marriage can save you.
>> It's Robin Learner, my mother.
>> When >> Oh, I had a feeling.
>> Yeah, I had a feeling.
>> She seemed very ready.
>> She She seems like the kind of woman who would only go out on her own terms.
>> Come, come inside the car. You're getting sick. Please. I want to talk to you.
Please come.
I don't give a [ __ ] >> Go home and tell it to Chloe.
>> I can. She left me. She's with her mother. They both got scared. I need you.
>> How does it feel?
>> Whoa. [ __ ] >> I feel like an orphan.
>> Oh my lord.
>> I'm not coming.
>> Leo.
>> Come with us right now. I have to go back for Sarah.
>> Leah.
>> Mom, I'm going.
>> Power of love, man. The power of love.
>> Take care of yourself. Okay.
I'm going to make it.
>> Bro, I don't think so.
>> I don't like that, though. His dad instantly look at him. He's like, "Oh [ __ ] I can't stop him."
>> I have proof that you're not an orphan.
Here.
Look.
>> What are we looking at?
>> Was such a good day for all of us.
Remember, keep them.
Goodbye.
>> Damn.
>> Are we on?
>> We're on, Mr. President.
Our missiles have failed.
Whoa.
>> Comets are still headed for Earth and there's nothing we can do to stop them.
>> Great. Hey yo, >> there will be a very large tidal wave moving quickly through the Atlantic Ocean. It'll be 100 ft high, traveling at 1100 mph.
>> Wow.
>> The impact of the larger comet will be nothing less than an extinction level event.
It will strike land in western Canada.
>> CANADA.
>> TAKING OUT CANADA. THE WEST SIDE. IT'S OKAY. It's all right. It's all right.
It's all right. That's crazy. It's just like it's over. We're done for. We lost.
We're literally cooked.
>> There's nothing we can do about the smaller one. But we do have a plan. We need the arming codes for the last four nukes.
>> Arming codes? What for?
>> Mitch, we can do what we can teach.
What's your pleasure?
>> Whoa.
You say goodbye to >> just taking the kid. No, she's going to let her go on with her kid.
No room for this. Throw it away.
>> Damn, dude. Had a feeling she would It's just Yeah, that's just who she is.
Who are you? Sarah.
Sarah.
>> Oh, hey Sarah. Hey. Yo. Who are they?
Leo. Leo. Leo.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> You don't have any time.
>> You have to go now.
>> No. No. No. Put this on.
>> Daddy. Daddy. What are you doing?
>> I want you to take the baby.
>> No. No. No. No. No.
>> Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Let go. Put this on. I love you.
>> I love you, too. I've always loved you.
>> It's the right thing to do.
>> Yeah.
>> When I was 11, I took $32 from your wallet.
>> When you were a baby, I once dropped you on your head.
Hey yo.
Oh.
OH MY GOD. WOO. JEEZ. WOW.
WA.
OH.
Oh my god. Wow. Okay, that's destructive as hell.
Oh my god.
Whoa, >> bro. the sheer destruction.
Yo, bro is just reading. He's like, "Whatever." He's like, "I don't care. I don't want to look at it. There's nothing to do."
>> No. Like, there's just sheer destruction. It's just like there's nothing you could do about that. Just gone.
>> Yeah, it's going. Let alone the height.
It's just the the speed.
>> Yeah. Yeah. the sheer like force of power that it's it's just insane.
>> Wendy, honey, promise me you keep doing your uh your church thing and I'll be there right next to you, haunting you.
>> You better come back and haunt me.
>> I love you.
>> That's sweet.
>> Take care daddy for me, okay?
>> Well, she does a good job. She misses mommy.
>> I miss you.
>> I love you, Mommy.
>> AH, PLEASE.
>> I want to tell her I love her. And that ever since we've been apart, every day I think about it, Mary, I'm coming home.
>> It's coming home. The big fish is coming home.
>> His name is Orin. I named him after you.
>> Hello, Orin. He's holding up a little rocket.
>> It's a mighty powerful rocket. What you got there?
>> He's left.
>> I can hear him. I know.
>> Oh my god. Why am I going to cry?
>> IT'S HIT YOU?
>> YEAH. HOLY [ __ ] DUDE. Maybe that's the deep impact the whole time. The deep impact into the fields.
>> Oh, we're going in.
>> We're going in, DUDE. WHOA.
[ __ ] >> WOW. Oh my god.
I mean, those little things could still pelt you, dude. That would go right through you >> as the bombs shattered the second comet into a million pieces of ice and rock that burned harmlessly in our atmosphere and lit up the sky for an hour.
>> Oh, so it even hit.
>> Still, we were left with the devastation of the first.
The waters reached as far inland as the Ohio and Tennessee valleys.
>> Wow.
>> Whoa. Damn.
All right. Damn.
All right. We just uh finished watching Deep Impact, man. And um dude, Deep Impact was actually a really good movie.
>> Yeah. What I like about Deep Impact is that it's actually really ballsy. I I didn't expect Well, a I just didn't expect so many people to actually perish. You you know, especially the reporter woman. I didn't for some reason I wasn't really expecting it. Uh like I wasn't expecting that from the beginning. They really pushed her to the forefront. I found the mouse.
>> Yeah.
>> You know, so it was quite surprising and it's just I don't know. It was just it was a surprisingly good movie. But was there just like a time or an era where asteroids hitting Earth was just such a a big concern with people that they just started making a shitload of movies about it.
>> Yeah. I guess again there was like Armageddon.
>> Yeah. Armageddon's like the more humorous funny he he >> Armageddon's kind of like the Marvel uh version of it almost. Yeah. I need I need a team, you know, like trained individuals and stuff like that. Get me Ben Affleck, >> Bruce Willis, and we got it.
>> But uh it kind of reminded me of that, but it was just a a LOT LESS HOPEFUL.
>> YEAH. I I LIKE AT EVERY TURN. And I even like the twist where like they figure out like oh this this woman named Ellie or whatever. There's like this big affair thing. That was this is actually far worse than >> I like I I I genuinely like when she looks up the acronym and it just tells you like a >> extinction level that's it's a really good thing. I mean that in itself is predictable but I mean it's just it's cool how they kind of like figure it out.
>> Yeah.
>> You know I also I guys I'm sorry but when the guy in the beginning the car crash in the beginning is absolutely hilarious. I don't know why.
>> No no no. YOU KNOW WHY? CUZ WHEN HE GETS HIT, HE TUMBLES OFF THE HILL. OKAY, LET'S LET'S CALL SPACE. IF YOU'RE TUMBLING DOWN, YOU'RE GOING TO CONTINUOUSLY TUMBLING. THERE'S GOING TO BE A POINT WHERE YOU STOP. HE JUST TUMBLED. BOOM.
>> YOU KNOW WHAT REMIND ME OF SQUIDWARD ON A BIKE.
>> YES, EXACTLY THAT.
>> SQUIDWARD ON A BIKE.
>> IT LITERALLY REMINDED ME OF SQUIDWARD on the bike. And that's why it was so goddamn funny. IT JUST IT MADE BAM OUT OF NOWHERE.
>> I'm sorry, but that [ __ ] was hilarious, dude. That was crazy.
>> That was really good, dude. I did not I I expected a fullon tumble sequence. He literally tumbled for >> Dude, he tumbled for a second.
>> I just blast his mouth.
>> Absolutely insane.
>> That was wild, man. Yeah.
>> Don't smoke and drive, kids.
>> I don't Yeah, honestly. Yeah, >> they tell you don't drink AND DRIVE.
DON'T SMOKE, BUT don't use your phone and drive, too. A buddy was They're both very unsmart individuals. That's true.
One's smoking, the other one's looking at his phone trying to get it to work.
THEY'RE JUST LIKE >> BOOM, >> gone out of here. you'll see you never.
But um I I I >> I think it's just a good movie because it's just it ends in a very bittersweet way.
>> It's grim.
>> It ends on hope though. It it's relatively grim. It's like yes, um these astronauts sacrificed themselves and saved the the majority of the planet. BUT A LOT OF people you still lost a lot.
>> You lost a [ __ ] ton. You know, there's a lot of people that were lost along the way. It's not perfect. And I think that's I think it's a better approach to We've absolutely saved the day.
>> I think that's the thing. I think it's a better approach to tackling a film uh like this. You know, most films kind of just like they don't have the balls that be grim, you know, they're just going to make it like, okay, save the day.
Everything's fine. I I feel like kind of like Armageddon in a sense. Yeah. In in a sense where, you know, Bruce Willis does Bruce Willis things, man. You know, he's just like just does his thing, dude. And that's about it. You know, it's not grim or anything like that. It ends on a very good note, actually. You know, it ends on a high. this ends on a like it's not really a high, it's not really a low.
You're just like, "Oh, >> okay."
>> You know, it's just like it's not a happy ending whatsoever. No, it's quite dark in a sense. Yeah. You know, but I kind of like that realistic uh approach to it >> if anything. Like if I had to choose which one I liked more, I would say Armageddon >> because Bruce Willis was in it.
>> That's it.
>> That's it.
>> That's it.
>> No, but I liked how this one was portrayed 10 times more. I feel like it's a it's a lot more realistic. Yeah.
I like the just the leadup in the buildup to to unraveling what's happening.
>> Yeah.
>> I think the whole aspect was insanely cool.
>> The buildup is ridiculously good. Like like you said when she figures it out and everything like that and you get to the press conference and post >> it makes sense for me personally that she would um >> that she would stay behind with her father.
>> It makes total sense cuz like look everything you see of her she has no personal life.
>> No.
>> You know her personal life was her mother.
>> Yeah. You know and her mother is gone.
She her personal life was basically her mother. You saw she has no significant other at all.
>> Whatsoever.
>> No.
>> You know, she has some friend that you know, not really friendly, just like a co-workers and that.
>> You could tell like her life is her job.
Outside of it, she really had nothing.
>> Yeah.
>> And all she had left was her dad.
>> And all she has left is her father.
>> Yeah. I thought it was touching that they had their last moment on the beach.
Yeah.
>> I thought that was really nice.
>> Yeah. You know, >> uh Yeah. I don't know. It was just like it was genuinely a surprising movie. I I just did not expect that many people to just get wrecked essentially. I did not expect that.
>> At every turn, like as soon as Morgan Freeman sits there as president, he's about to tell us like, "Guys, WE'RE SCREWED. GUYS, WE'RE JUST DEAD."
>> YEAH, GUYS. LIKE, we're tapping out. We're done for.
>> It's like, "Guys, bad news.
>> Bad news. We're still dying."
>> Like, at every turn, it's always just bad news.
>> Yeah. It just It keeps getting worse and worse and you because it's like the entire film you're waiting for when it gets better because A LOT OF EXPECT YOU SAID VERY movies have a very predictable approach to these kind of things. So you're expecting oh when does it get better and then you realize oh it's just it's not getting better and essentially it does get better. The big asteroid gets destroyed but even then it's still not better. It's still >> it's better than but like it's still horrendous. Like instead of getting hit with a sledgehammer I'm getting hit with a small hammer and it still hurts. Yeah.
>> You know not as bad but it still hurts.
>> Exactly. You know, um, you almost, uh, I almost give you the tears.
>> Oh god, man. Oh, God. I think I'm just, uh, I think I'm just old, man.
>> WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
>> I'M just like 30s, man. Guy sees his kid and stuff like that. I put myself in his shoes like, dude, I'd be crying like a [ __ ] too, man. Like, bro, I I don't know, man.
>> Bro, it just didn't hit for me like that. I just >> You know why? You're a manchild, bro.
Straight up. You're just a manchild, dude. You ain't got it.
>> How am I manchild?
>> Just a manchild, man. You just don't get it. You don't I get it.
>> I don't know, man. I just like >> I don't know, dude.
>> It It takes me way too much to actually get me for tears. I don't KNOW WHY IT GOT ME, DUDE. I It just like for some reason I just It hit something in me, dude. It was like It was the same thing when we watched uh what's that movie called? Um give me a little explanation.
I can help you.
>> No, dude. I had it. Shash Shank Redemption. I cried. Guys, go check out the reaction. I cried like a [ __ ] man.
Like straight up the ending of Shashank Redemption. I don't know. Some things hit me and I don't even know why. I just start crying.
>> The only movie that got >> Kung Fu Panda 2 only. That's the only got me.
>> Kung Fu Panda, DUDE.
>> THERE'S SOME MOVIES WHERE YOU'RE JUST WATCHING IT, MAN. Something just hits a string on something just hits something and you're like, why? Like why this of all things? It makes you feel, man.
>> And then sometimes I watch a guy explode and I laugh. I don't know what goes on, bro. I HAVE, >> DUDE. AS SOON AS SOON AS I SAW THE INTRO, THE GUY'S driving like Curtis is GOING TO LAUGH.
>> YEAH.
>> And then it got me the explo the explosion was like the cherry on top.
>> Yeah. If anything, I think that was my favorite scene of the movie. That was crazy.
>> That's crazy.
>> You know what I think?
>> That's crazy. Say, dude, I think I laugh harder at those moments than I do when we watch comedy. I I just I hate to be that guy, man. But I'm noticing a pattern, man. I'm noticing a pattern. I feel like, man, you could give me like a montage of just like things like that, dude. I'm just gonna laugh like crazy, man. Yeah.
>> I don't know why.
>> I don't know, guys. Titanic, man.
Propeller scene.
>> Yeah.
>> People actually got upset at that.
>> Yo, man. Screw them, dude. That [ __ ] was funny, man. That [ __ ] Okay, off topic, but guys, if you're going to add a silly sound effect where the guy hits something, man, it's kind of like when we watch Spider-Man 3 and Harry hits the thing, goes, bro, the sound, the hit, he goes flipping, man. Shit's hilarious, dude. I can't I can't get enough. No, I'm You know, I'll tell you one thing I just thought about. I'm so surprised Elijah Wood's character even lives.
>> I WAS EXPECTING LIKE A >> playing He was like, he was doing something crazy, man. That's it. I did not expect it to survive either. Not even that, but the grim approach for the entire film was like bros ain't he ain't gonna make it, man. I really thought he wasn't. And he actually did, which is quite a surprise, >> you know. I also like that he went back he went back power of love, man. He went back for the girl he loved, man. I kind of like that even her parents were just like, "Get the hell out."
>> I'm surprised. I'm surprised that her her parents didn't push harder for her to get on that bus.
>> Yeah.
>> With especially like say you can claim that this child is even yours.
>> Yeah.
>> Like it's just is your younger sibling.
This is just a baby.
>> Yeah. You just say it's hers, you know?
Just lie about it. Just give it to her and say it's yours. Go.
>> Yeah. something like I I I that was bizarre to me. I I feel like if and >> skip the whole entire motorcycle scene if you just did that.
>> I would have been more uh >> I think again I do believe that would have been a far more smart approach.
Yeah. You know that would have made a >> lot then he's runs all the way back >> runs all the way back. He takes a he uh >> just crazy the fact that he survived genuinely surprised you. I thought it was just going to be like uh >> I don't know. I just thought it was going to be sad sad just like dies with her instead. No, >> but no, they don't. Like that actually >> helpful, which was quite >> Yeah, that blew me away. I I swear I WAS LIKE AS SOON AS I SAW HIM INSTANTLY LIKE, "DAD, I'm bleeding." LIKE HE'S SO DEAD.
>> YOU KNOW WHO ALSO GOT blown away? The guy in the beginning of the film.
>> Stop.
Stop.
Stop.
>> Dude, I'm sorry. I'm thinking about it and I'm laughing, >> dude. I'm going to probably make a short of it.
>> I hope you do.
>> We just like the guy's just driving, you know, and banging. You could literally make a montage of me laughing at questionable things. Like, you genuinely can. There's a lot of footage out there.
I >> I'm surprised someone hasn't done it yet because there's a lot there.
>> You're right. There's so many sequences and where you're laughing hysterically and bro it's just someone dying.
>> Say it's not always I'm dying, dude.
Sometimes like someone getting hit for no reason whatsoever. Like, >> excuse me. What?
>> They're dying.
>> OKAY. WELL, THE GUY >> THEY'RE PREDOMINANTLY DYING.
>> AT LEAST I DIDN'T. YOU TOLD ME WHEN THAT GUY HIT THE BULLET DEAD, HE DIDN'T DIE.
>> NO, he's gone, DUDE.
>> HE'S 100% HE'S DEAD. WHY DID THEY HAVE TO DO THE FUNNY LITTLE TONGUE THOUGH?
WHY DO THEY HAVE TO PUT THE LITTLE LIKE LIKE HE LIKE A BELL or something, dude?
That [ __ ] gets me all the time, man.
Stop it, guys.
>> You sick freak. There's even a part in the Lord of the Rings in the Return of the King where a Gondor soldier gets picked up by the the Ghoul's dragon. He He just It's like >> Felbeast.
>> Felbeast. He is picked up by Felbeast, guys. And drops the guard dead silent.
They take out all the music. his dead side. You see the guy go I'm just like dude I was watching with Amanda last year and I was laughing so hard and she looked at me and she's just like you can't be serious LIKE YOU GOT A DRONE BRO I DON'T KNOW WHY THAT makes me laugh man it's like I don't know man IT'S WHEN EVERYTHING GOES QUIET AND SOMEONE HITS the ground IT'S LIKE A BONG >> OH MY GOD DUDE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT is man I think I just like I have like the sense of humor of a child dude I don't know what to tell you guys we're we're rambling it's almost 11 minutes deep Impact was truly a great movie, guys.
We're going to peek out. I loved it. I think it's the best uh the best adaptation representation of World Ending that I've seen in a while cuz I liked how bittersweet and grim it was.
And I feel like a lot of more movies don't >> I really appreciate that. Like I appreciate the balls that they had to go with that approach.
>> Like you just don't save the day. It's like no [ __ ] gets totally >> Sometimes you can't entirely save the day and sometimes things are still going to go wrong. And I kind of like that represented. It feels a bit more realistic. And on that note, guys, we're going to peace out. I'll see you guys in the next one. Bye >> bye.
