Back To Planting Before More RainAdded:
All right, we're doing a little bit of a change in plans because they're being all wishy-washy about the weather.
Um, I was going to stick to chisel plowing until I was done with chisel plowing, but now they got Well, we had rain Monday afternoon.
there was a thunderstorm came through and gave us about uh pretty much a half inch across the board no matter where you were at. Um so that shut us down for a minute. So I got looked at the the 3-speed on the 1955. I bumped the clutch pressure up by about it was at the at the bottom end of the the allowable range, so I bumped it up.
Um, I was able to get a washer in there and that gave it about 7 PSI, which put it back upper mid-range of where it should be. It made it shift a little different, but I still think it's going to slip. I think probably going to end up having to pull a 3-speed out of it, which is not a super huge deal because I want to change the transmission input shaft seal anyhow. So, we can pull the 3-speed, do that. I got to put a fuel tank in it because the one that's in it starting to leak again. It was leaking when we got it. We had a sea old and it's scary as it is. It's almost 20 years cuz that showed up when I was 16 per before. Was it before that? Might have been before that.
No. S. Yeah. Because I had it and we overhauled the engine. in my senior year of high school because I was always going in and talking to my my auto teacher was always interested in how it was going. So, so yeah, we must have got it when I was 16. So, we've had that tractor almost 20 years now, scary as that is. Um, so 20 years on a fuel tank seal job, I guess, can't be terrible, but I'll have to hunt down a fuel tank for it. Um, so I can get that fixed. And then while we're in there, we do the brake valve.
So, I mean, it's not necessarily the end of the world.
Um, so I got that done. I got all new springs, uh, change engine springs put on the beam planter.
Um, so that's ready to go. I got that greased. I got this greased. I fixed my hydraulic leak back there at the remote valve. The one of the O-rings was messed up. So, I got that fixed. And while I was fixing that, I found another leak down here at this hydraulic filter. The oil pressure sending unit or low oil pressure warning sending unit is leaking now from where the I guess you call it the main body of the sending unit is crimped to the stem that screws into the housing. I guess you want however you want to call that assemblies. It's leaking out of there.
So, oh [ __ ] I was going to stop by mom and dad's on the way back because I forgot my part numbers over there.
Too late now. I'll miss Maybball by the time I get over there. So, I have to remember to grab them tonight. We're going to end up over there when I'm done any anyhow.
Um, so basically that's what I've been doing the last two days is just doing some mainteny slashfixing stuff. Um, and today is Wednesday the 20th.
So, um, they keep it looks like as of right now I'm good today, tomorrow and Friday and then either they keep changing the forecast either Friday night or sometime Saturday we have a chance of rain coming through. So, I decided to jump up back off the chisel plow. We're going to fit all all the ground the that well all but one. Um, I got three bean fields chiseled and one corn field chiseled. We're going to get all those fit tonight. Um, and then plant beans tomorrow and get that corn field Friday.
Uh, I would like to There's the one that we ran the finisher over before it rained that is that needs hit again. Um, hopefully the rain misses us because what I want to do is throw my uh field civator behind the 4150 and go down there and just run it like yay deep, like just barely tickling and buff the top back open and let it dry out and plant it. Um, but I don't think I'm going to have enough time before the next rain. Um, and on the flip side too, I also want to run down and check the muck and see if that's something I can get over and hopefully Friday get fertilizer spread on it and maybe this weekend if it's dry enough to get over, go down there and get the muck done. So, that's done and out of the way. Um, but we'll just see how things play out. My main concern right now is getting what I already have chiseled planted. So, um, let this thing warm up for a minute and we will get on the road.
Also, today, all the corn I already had planted got sprayed. So that that's done.
First pale of corn. I haven't been to any of the other ones. The very first field of corn that I planted is spiking through the ground. So that's good.
First beans I planted.
just about making it where if you slow down enough, you can start seeing roads from the road.
So, that's good.
This almost would have fit yesterday, but it was like right there where like do I need to be out here? Do I need I want to get the oiling fixed on this thing anyhow? is out Heat up here.
Heat up here.
Heat up here.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat up here. All right, there's all four fields done that I wanted to get work tonight.
Um, I do think I'm going to change my plans a little bit, though. I was initially going to, when I got off work tomorrow, go to planting beans.
Um, however, the way the ground look or worked, um, I think what we're going to do instead, because this of the ones I worked, this is the only one going to corn, the other ones are beans. This field, beautiful, dry, everything. This, this, this field, perfect. Um, the first field I was at, um, that one not none too shabby. The two in the middle got a little bit of a tack got a little bit of tack to them.
So I think it'd be better to let them sit for an extra day. So I think rather than going to beans right off the bat, get this field planted right after work tomorrow and possibly maybe get started on on that first field of beans tomorrow after I get done planting corn here. Um or if all else just plant the other three on Friday. So, and then hopefully they take that rain out of the weekend and we can have a good weekend cuz now they got rain since just since I started the video. They went got rain now uh 40% chance Saturday and Sunday. So, um, but anyhow, I'm going to run this back to mom and dad's because that's going to be a jumping off point for the next goound.
And tomorrow we will pick up with a corn planter. So, we'll catch you guys tomorrow.
Okay, today we're going to plant a little bit of corn and then come back and grab that and possibly start planting little beans. It depends on daylight. I don't want to run too late tonight cuz I want to have enough daylight left to go down and walk the muck and see if it's dry enough to get over with a spreader. I think it will be.
Um, but as of right now, the weather for this weekend, it's supposed to be cloudy, but they weren't talking.
I mean, if there are chances, there's not much for chances of rain. So, hopefully, and it sounds like we're having a 3-day weekend cuz it sounds like we're all caught up on everything at work.
I already serviceed the thing, so I'm not worried about checking oil and everything like that.
Um, make sure this thing we're still good.
Um, so if I can get fertilizer spread on the muck tomorrow and then hopefully Saturday morning if it's not raining first thing, hook the field civator up to the 150, go up town, skim that field open so they can start so that it can dry out enough to plant. Come back. Grab the disc behind the 150. Go down disc the muck so it can uh start drying out.
Have to see. I know it's got it's got weeds in it a lot. I had since I had the beans on it last year. Apparently they're a lot I mean it's always been a little green in the spring but never this bad. Um so apparently the soybean herbicide program does not uh work quite as well as the corn herbicide program as far as overwintering. Um but get the muck broke open Saturday morning.
come back hopefully plant the field in town Saturday afternoon and depending on if it needs it or not and time frame hopefully Sunday morning go back down redis the muck and run the the uh columalure over it hopefully get the muck planted Sunday and then go back to chisel plowing Monday and hopefully finish up chisel plying on Monday hopefully Maybe we'll see.
Um H I don't know if it shows up on camera, but you can see very vaguely see cornrows now, which that got sprayed. So that's going to get clean or that's going to clean up here in another in a day or so. That got sprayed yesterday.
So anyhow, I'm going to get unfolded.
We're just going to fill the planter here since I can go over there and plant all that on one fill. That's the nice thing about having that planter and this planter now is I got any of these fields I got that are like well that thing I could plant near as I could tell about 17 acres on a fill-ish.
Um and then this one I can plant nine. go 9 and 1/2, maybe 10 if you can cram enough fertilizer in the in the tanks.
But it's nice not have to drag the nurse tank or the bean wagon to every single field.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
This going to be the last field of 2336.
Actually, I got three bags left. I got to split three bags between eight rows, which kind of sucks.
All right.
We're unfolded. Fans running. Valves are all open.
Monitor's on.
Go do your thing.
Oh no.
Heat Heat up here.
Heat up here.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Well, I guess we're going through and replacing every single keeper pin, cotter pin in all the cylinders on this thing cuz had another one go MIA.
That's odd.
But at least it didn't spin the wheel and take the row units out cuz that would have been bad. So, dad's bringing me a pin and uh get that back in and then we'll finish up. I got like a half acre or whatever it is to finish this up.
It's always something. At least it's something simple. Okay, let's see how orary this thing wants to be.
Oh, not bad at all.
Not bad at all.
Might have been too far.
Just right. Looks like maybe hopefully except you got to come up from the bottom.
Look at that.
Except that pin don't work. But luckily there's one here that's a touch longer.
Guess the next time I go to TSC, I need to buy some more spare cylinder pins.
Okay, crisis averted. Like I say, lucky that thing didn't catch and go the other cuz if it went the other way and the cylinder hadn't stopped it, you spin that tire and uh it would have wiped out both row units on either side of it. So, that would have been fun.
Okay, that field's planted.
Another one checked off the list.
I'm going to do go home and grab the 1955 the bean planter and get that run over to my house cuz that's where the bean wagon's at. And that's where we're going to jump off from anyhow and get done or get that over to my house.
Have Shelly take me back to my pickup.
Go down, look at the muck, come back, and then we'll see about planting some beans. That way I have daylight to do everything I need to do. So, we'll catch you here in a minute. All right, we're over at my place.
Shelley had to go to her mom's for a minute, so she was gone when I got here.
So, while we're waiting for her to get back so she can take me to my truck, we're going to go ahead and get the bean planter filled up.
Um, I'm just going to work out of here cuz I can fill up here, go plant the bigger bean field, but I got to drive kind of pack past here to get to the other two. So, I go plant that one, come back, refill, go to the other two, and then end up back at mom and dad's because once these two are done, um all but one corn field that was too wet to work initially, um everything this way will be done and I just have to work everything that way now. So, well, not everything, but everything I have left is going to be that way.
Heat. Heat.
It's kind of sad.
This will be the first year since I started farming where the 66 hasn't had a job for spring.
It will get hooked up to the sprayer, though. I'm probably going to set this up for spot spraying corn if need be with my my sprayer. And then I'll probably set the four-wheeler up for spot spraying beans if need be, at least for the time being. because then I'll have to go down to the muck and I'll uh I got to put m I'll have to put manganesees on at some point and probably do a respray on it. I'll most likely do a respray on it. You always got to do a respray on it cuz it's freaking muck. Um, so she'll get some work. She'll get a little bit of work out on the sprayer and obviously she's going to plant wheat and do a little bit of brush hoging and what have you. I really need to remember one of these days to I don't know what the original cradle looked like for this augur because I didn't get one with it.
That is the new unrefer one that you can order for it. And it doesn't really fit right. And I need to pull these dents out and weld a plate right here to reinforce this area for sitting in that cradle.
It's one of them deals. I always look at it and say I need to do that and then I always forget to do it.
But should be able to weld a nut on there and make a attachment for the slap hammer and pull them dents back out.
kind of halfway decent and weld a reinforcing plate on there so it can't smash anymore.
All right.
Um, I went down and looked at the muck.
I meant to take the camera with me, but then I got in a hurry and forgot the camera on the fender of the tractor. So, I apologize for that. But the muck will most definitely go this weekend. There's already one field down there planted.
Uh the big guys that farm most of that down there, they've I guess there's more than one field planted, but the vast majority of their ground down there hasn't even been touched yet. But they didn't even get started until uh what was it last weekend, I think. So, I would imagine they uh went west to their went east to their drier ground first and they had everything planted around the home farm, but they farm at least two counties worth of traveling.
So, I would imagine they headed that way to their sand ground.
Um, but so as long as the weather cooperates, hopefully get the M planted this weekend, get that off the table.
Go.
Okie dokie.
Heat up here.
Yeah, I give up.
There's a bean right there. So they're planting interesting.
Got good air pressure.
All right, we're going now. I got all the endros down here put on around to the the fish hook there.
The only thing I can think is because this thing sat out in that storm, I'm wondering if the beans that were in the plates got wet and swelled up a little bit and they were sticking cuz I went down, went around the corner, and it started planting just fine. So, I don't know. A Heat.

All right, we're back. I got hung up at work for an extra hour today, so that was neat.
So hopefully I have time to get finished before it gets too dark. We got last I knew pretty good chance of rain overnight which is really going to screw everything up.
I was hoping for a good weekend but doesn't look like that's going to happen.
Yep. 90% chance overnight.
and rain tomorrow morning, 90% chance.
So that sucks. But on the other hand, you hate to say you don't want the rain, but I also don't want to be in a drought. So I guess I'll take it.
I probably got about 45 minutes left here.
go home, top the planter off, go grab them other two fields, probably get this back to my house and get in the farm tonight.
That way it doesn't sit out in the rain again. So, we'll see what we can do.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
All right, this field's done.
I think my seed sensor for row number eight's on the fritz because it keeps bitching at me that it's not planting.
But you walk back here and the plate's completely full of seed. Near as I can see from the tractor, it's spinning and the hopper is the same amount of empty as all the other ones. So, the seed's going somewhere.
So, uh I guess while I'm at my house real quick, I'll grab my bottle brush, run a brush through it, see if it's just dirty or if it's junk, which I didn't change any of the sensors on the back bar because they were newer.
So, if it keeps getting too bad, I'll just unplug it so I don't have to keep listening to it. But, um, get back to my house, fill the planter. Got nine more acres to go. Is Heat up here.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.
Heat.
Heat.
All right, here we are at the last set of fields.
This is that river piece that's all broke up.
Although with some more trees taken out, it this feels good dirt. It has potential.
There's a surprising lack of deer pressure. Probably because there's always people out here doing something and it's pretty heavily hunted.
Just need to get rid of them. Just need to get rid of more trees.
I think one of the things I'm going to do this with, one of the things I've always wanted to do to it, um, and this winter, while we're working on it, I'm going to try to do it, is find a, uh, side shifter off of a 21105.
They fit right in. And then they move the shifter over here out of the way.
And I honestly after having driven one, I think they actually shift a little easier. I think you get more leverage on them. At least I I don't know. It felt that way when I ran a 215 and a 285.
I'm getting hungry.
I need to get this done so I go get food.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.

Heat. Heat.

All right, there's everything that was worked.
planted.
So now we're just kind of waiting to see what this rain does tonight.
Like I say, I kind of want it and don't want it all at the same time, if that makes any sense.
Um, would have been nice if I could have if it would have waited a couple days if I could have taken advantage of the long weekend, but I have other I have a a side project that needs done before we can finish planting anyhow. So, we can work on that tomorrow afternoon after the rain clears out. But and I apologize for the lack of like camera work. The as busy as everything is and the as late as everything is and just the the feeling right now is just get on the tractor and go. And just kind of is what it is. But anyhow, I'm going to get this thing home, get it in the barn, and go get my pickup and go get some food. So, with that being said, that's it for this one. We'll catch you guys on the next one.
