In carpet python breeding, clutch size is influenced by the female's age and body condition, with older, well-conditioned females producing larger clutches; genetic traits like 'super caramel' exhibit variable expression where homozygous and heterozygous forms may appear visually similar but produce different offspring phenotypes, and breeding heterozygous albino males with non-albino females results in all offspring being heterozygous albinos.

My Biggest Carpet Python Clutch Yet!Added:
Hey, what's up, everyone? Welcome back to the channel. Been gone for a couple days out of town and had somebody actually [music] taking care of the animals while I was away. And I kind of prepped her on what to expect and crossed my fingers that it would all go swell.
And it did. And I did just say swell.
And while I was away, we got another clutch of carpet python eggs. That's right. This train is still [music] going full steam ahead, plowing on. So, let's take a look and see what we missed out on. Try and put pieces together.
>> [music] >> So, I was certainly expecting [music] more than one clutch, but I'm happy to be here for all of the ones that didn't go. But, that means we missed this girl's very first time producing a clutch for me. Although, we have the eggs and we have her, we just weren't here for it, which is the only downside. But, this, if you aren't familiar, is my big female caramel citrus tiger girl, produced by Eric Burke.
And she did not breed last year for me.
And so, therefore, she had another year putting size on. She's about I think she's going to be 6 years old this year.
Five or six, one of the two. And so, she had a a ton of weight on. She looks really good, all things considered. [music] But, you should see the size of the clutch she dropped.
It's insane.
It's already probably the biggest clutch of the year, and it might be [music] my biggest clutch ever.
So, very happy that it all went well.
The person I had watching said [music] she was great. She was just restless, really didn't want the eggs, didn't want to be sitting still. [music] And just like she is now, not sitting still. So, she wasn't defensive or anything, in my experience [music] I've never had a carpet python bite or be defensive when removing eggs, but you never know. [music] So, I prepped her and I thanked her and I crossed my fingers and everything went well.
So, we have a massive clutch of eggs.
Mama's really good-looking.
She's a little dull from all the hard work and not having eaten in a few months, more like six, but uh what we'll do is we're going to get her fully cleaned up today, get her nice little soak, and uh yeah, >> [music] >> get her a meal this week.
So, she's looking great. I just wanted to show her off.
And we paired her with a very, very wonderful male.
And you all know Skittles.
So, let's take a look at him and talk about this pairing. [music] And then we'll look at that clutch of eggs cuz I said it was a big clutch.
All right, the infamous Skittles, my caramel [music] albino citrus tiger, the world's first, handsome boy [music] who is now a proven breeder.
Bred him to that caramel citrus tiger in the hopes of making some possible super [music] caramel citrus tiger head albinos. Now, the reason I say possible is because caramel on its own is variable [music] in expression. Super caramel, you kind of have that it to prove it that it's a super. You can get some that look like, you know, near nearly no black to them in super caramel, and [music] you breed them in their single copy, and then thus on the other side of the coin you can get some with [music] plenty of melanin and look dark, but they'll breed like a super caramel. So, it's an interesting gene where the homozygous form doesn't necessarily visually look too much different than the heterozygous form. So, all that jargon and genetic mumbo jumbo to mean hopefully we'll see what uh potential super caramel citrus tiger het albino looks like because that female is completely coastal, no Darwin blood in there whatsoever. Uh just [music] straight caramel and citrus tiger.
And everything that will result will be het albino.
And that means [music] this guy has now fathered two clutches this season.
Um very excited about that. We will have visual winos from the other citrus tiger het albino female that produced. Um she's currently sitting on eggs if you've caught the live stream at all.
So, she should have those hatching in no time. But this is dad.
Very excited to uh to see these these babies in probably 55 days or so.
All right, let's go [music] look at this whopper of a clutch, shall we?
All right, this is [snorts] a massive clutch.
I did sort of a loose count. There's a bunch in there and underneath.
It's like 24 25 eggs.
I mean it barely fits in this bin.
They barely just don't touch the sides.
Um wow. Yeah, it's heavy. Honestly, I got to put it down.
That's my uh my tennis elbow [music] arm. It's bad. Hurts.
Yeah, very impressed. Massive clutch.
She was huge.
No wonder she was so restless before we left. Explains a lot. She really wanted these things out, but my goodness.
[music] Going to have a lot of citrus tiger het albino [music] babies this season.
Really looking forward to it. Hopefully a lot of caramels. It's a variable expression gene that I said, so we'll get a lot of uh nice expression and variation [music] in that. Hopefully eventually some possible super caramels. So, fingers crossed.
Time to put these away.
For those of you who stuck around this long into the video, here's a quick little Apodora breeding update.
So, Oracle, who's been doing a lot of the breeding activity, is under her hide on the cool end with my larger male.
And they're the >> [music] >> US captive born and bred 2017 pair.
So, they're in there breeding.
But then I was up here looking at Fluffy today and she was looking quite green and bright.
That's her right there.
>> [music] >> And so, I decided to see what the other boy was doing and he was pacing his enclosure this morning.
So, I popped him in and he dove right on in with her. So, he's wedged in there somewhere. [music] So, there's about Oh, I don't know.
22 plus 23 [music] ft of Apodora in this big old cork round in there.
Pretty crazy. So, everyone's getting along still. So, [music] it's all I can ask for. They're still trying to breed. So, it's never [music] over until it's over.
All right. So, everything's still moving right along. Rattles are entering various [music] stages of pre-lay shed.
Still breeding. We're still waiting on several jungle clutches to drop.
Um >> [music] >> yeah, it's it's a lot going on. Corn snake clutch due to drop any day now.
That's what the the green tag right there is for. Got her on egg watch.
Waiting [music] on king snake eggs, more hognose uh snake eggs.
Strophurus eggs. We've got crested geckos hatching. All sorts of good stuff. It's the best time of year. So, there's a lot to look forward to. We're going to have a lot this year. We're going to have a lot up on the website once it's ready. Hoping to have the first few clutches that will be hatching any day now um from the maternally incubated clutches.
They will go and we'll get started with those guys uh getting them set up in bins, and I'll be filming that when that time [music] comes. So, keep an eye Well, of course, if you're watching this, it's already happened on the live stream, but I'm going to keep saying it, keep an eye on the live stream in case the other two are still going at the time of this airing. So, um yeah, there's a lot to look forward to, a lot of good stuff. We're going to have a ton of baby carpet pythons this year, so I hope everybody's ready for that.
It's going to be good. [music] So, looking forward to it all.
