The Cheapest Food That Can Still Feed a Family - Let’s Talk About It
Added:It's the same old thing. You're always using beans. I'm sick of seeing beans in every recipe. How does your family eat so much beans? I'm so tired of seeing beans on every budget channel. It's all we see and I'm sick of it. I'm not going to eat beans every day of the week. I came to this channel so you can show me how to eat good on little money. Not just beans.
You're supposed to show me how I can get steak or chicken breast for little to nothing, not beans. These are real comments that I get almost weekly. So, you want to talk about beans? Weird topic, but let's talk about beans. You need to stop thinking we're too good for beans. I mean, I'm not talking about those who don't like beans. I know there's some people who have texture issues or they just don't like the taste of beans, but I'm getting comments from people who are acting like they are too good to have beans. It's not that they don't like it. For generations, beans have been a staple and not just American homes, but homes all around the world.
During hard times, especially the Great Depression, beans helped keep families fed. Beans were the ultimate staple food during the Great Depression. They were very easy to grow, making them dirt cheap, and they were shelf stable, making them reliable, and they could sustain families. And something else that's super cool, during the Dust Bowl, a Texas rancher named Clyde Mallister became a legend, and he was also known as the bean man of Dowart. He pushed a wheelbarrow full of beans to the railroad tracks every day, and he fed travelers and families every day with his beans. I remember my mama and papa talking about how times were tough when they were young adults, just married, raising kids. They would have beans four or five times a week and it kept their bellies fed. A one lb bag of pinto beans cost a dollar. And that one bag can make multiple meals. Beans are one of the cheapest foods that you can buy and they're packed full of protein, fiber, nutrients, and they can be turned into so many things. You can make soups. You can make chilies. You can make quesadillas. You can make tacos. You can make oh my favorite Italian white beans.
Primo so good. You can make casseros burritos. Like the options are endless with beans. And with the way grocery prices are today and many pe not just Americans all over the world, but Americans are struggling.
They're talking about how it's so hard to afford life. And I agree it is. Beans can help. And I feel so silly making a whole video about a bean, but it has been a constant topic in my comment section lately. So, let's talk about beans. We don't need to be embarrassed or to think we're too good to eat beans.
There's no shame in eating beans. You know what? We need to be smart enough to appreciate beans. It is wise to cook beans in your kitchen. Beans have helped families not go to bed hungry for generations. I did not create this channel to show you how to get a t-bone steak for $2. I created my channel to show you how to keep those bellies full even when times are tough.
And a lot of the times beans are the answer to that. I'm sorry if you feel like I use beans too much. The the recipes that I show you, the meals that I show you are my family's real meals.
We eat those for breakfast, lunch, dinner. When we have breakfast, I'm not just cooking food just to show you. And then my That's our real meals. We eat beans. We like beans. I record as I live. I don't live to record. So what you see is what I'm feeding my family.
If we are going to have beans 3 days for dinner one week and I record that, that's what I'm going to show you because that's our real life meals. I said it's wise to have beans cooking in your kitchen because it is. Our grandparents and greatgrandparents used beans all the time. They could turn those beans into dinner for days and days, multiple meals. They kept their family's bellies full. We may need to get over the idea that every meal has to have premium cuts of meat, specialty ingredients, and the latest food trends.
And don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with enjoying that. But when grocery prices are through the roof, everything just seems to keep going up, simple foods can literally save your life. Beans help families get through hard times in the past, and they can help us get through hard times today. So maybe it's time we stop looking down on beans, on simple foods, and we start appreciating them for what they are.
Affordable, filling, and a true blessing when times are tough. Again, I'm not talking about those who don't like beans, don't like the texture. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about what I stated previously. You're going to see me make beans a lot because we like beans and beans are cheap. I can get a one lb bag of beans for a dollar versus $8 for a pound of hamburger meat right now. I mean, the savings are there. So, I'm I'm going to get those savings to try to help my family. And I'm not saying that you have to make beans. If you don't like them, if you don't want to make them, don't. But I'm just letting you know that here on my channel, I'm going to be using some beans.
I am because they're good and affordable. And that's all I have to say about that.
>> And that's all I have to say about that.
I'm going to go pick some beans over here and throw some in the crock pot for dinner tomorrow. So, I love you guys. I didn't, by the way, I'm not scolding or anything in this video. I just wanted to address some comments that I've been getting a lot and let's just talk about beans and how beans can literally save your life. Okay, I love you guys. I'll see you next video. Remember, be positive, be kind, be happy, and I'll see you later, ters. Bye.
