[00:00:05]Tell me about about attending Biggie Smalls' autopsy.

[00:00:09]>> Uh well the first thing was when they weighed him in she said it was 390 lb and I go, "Wow, that that is Oh, he was laying there."

[00:00:21]Of course, he's uh stripped and everything and they took the X-rays and they they said he has a rod through his his right leg.

[00:00:28]>> Yeah.

[00:00:28]>> He had the rod from uh and that's why he walked with a a cane or >> Yeah, he'd been involved in a really serious car wreck about 6 months earlier.

[00:00:36]>> And then the coroner there, she was going through the they described the entry wounds of where it was going before they we should before she opened them up. Uh and one no one round went through his arm. I remember that.

[00:00:49]>> Yeah.

[00:00:50]>> The way she uh was demonstrating it, she said it would appears that the there was a round in this thigh there and there was one that hit his buttocks area.

[00:01:00]>> Yeah.

[00:01:01]>> And went up cuz she said he may have been turning this way to lean up Excuse me, let me get up.

[00:01:05]>> No, no, no.

[00:01:05]>> Um lean away and that's the round had he probably not done that, he would probably have survived it or hit his butt.

[00:01:11]>> Right.

[00:01:12]>> Uh cuz he rode so high.

[00:01:13]>> have hit anything vital.

[00:01:14]>> But it it went in. So, if he was turned this way, it would traverse his across his chest.

[00:01:20]>> Yeah, after the shooting, his friends found him leaning over the center console. So, that's exactly what he did.

[00:01:25]And that opened him up to that round going up his body instead of >> Right. So, the uh then she uh medical examiner, she started opening him up and she did a lot of cuts to get through it because it was layer after layer after layer till finally she got through and she was able to see how just how damaging that one round had cut torn through his Oh my gosh, it went through his lung and it went through his um kidney?

[00:01:52]>> I think it hit a liver and yeah, it hit like three or four major >> She took it out and it was like it was like someone had put a knife through it.

[00:02:00]It was it was uh >> Jeez.

[00:02:02]>> The fourth gunshot wound is an abdomen to chest trajectory penetrating and deemed to be the fatal wound. So, perforating injuries to things like uh the ascending colon, the liver uh right hemidiaphragm, pericardium heart and upper lobe of the left lung and the bullet was recovered from the left shoulder area.

[00:02:28]>> Yeah, so that's hard to survive that.

[00:02:31]>> Yeah, yeah. And and again, you know, I said earlier bullets don't always go straight to the kill zone.

[00:02:39]>> Right.

[00:02:39]>> They travel through things and sometimes the traveling through will increase the the lethality of the gunshot wound rather than its final destination.

[00:02:49]>> Sure.

[00:02:50]>> And she was weigh of course weighing every all the parts and and then in order to turn him over I think the they had to she had to get an assistant and another gurney to flip him over on from one to the other cuz and they unfortunately it wasn't very uh how would you say? It was they had to tie a rope around his arm or his wrist almost and around his leg type of or I think I remember the leg and they pulled it was rough and then the she was able to I think she recovered the one bullet that did enter in here.

[00:03:28]They did recover that.

[00:03:30]>> Yeah, and one was found uh later on on his hospital gurney. It had fallen out of the hospital, I think, and >> Yeah, so and then she said that she just went ahead with the rest of the the procedure. You know, he was It was it's unfortunate, but uh what can you say?

[00:03:51]>> she found he was suffering from some pretty serious health related issues.

[00:03:55]Mainly obesity related a lot of them like heart >> Heart was heart was yeah, that's where she when she took that heart out she said oh yeah he's has this start of a heart disease and things like that.

[00:04:06]>> Enlarged and all that yeah.

[00:04:08]Cardiomegaly with biventricular hypertrophic hypertrophy. What does that mean?

[00:04:14]>> Enlarged heart. I even told my wife that when I came home with what he had he was messed up. He wasn't he wasn't long at 24.

[00:04:22]>> Right.

[00:04:23]Yeah.

[00:04:25]Um so yeah, I think the doctors at the hospital were the ones that determined he probably died within a few minutes of being shot which he might not have even been driven out of the intersection yet by the time he died.

[00:04:37]>> Well, that's one reason why there was so little few blood in this car. Everything's sealed.

[00:04:45]It seals up.

[00:04:46]>> Yeah.

[00:04:46]>> And we were really surprised about that when we saw the car was there's no there's really no blood yeah. No blood.

[00:04:53]Everything stayed inside.

[00:04:54]>> Yeah.

[00:04:54]>> We pulled up at the emergency room right in the front and there was some people that followed us there.

[00:05:01]You know like the people you know that was there and we all carried big and inside the emergency room they brought a stretcher out and put him on the stretcher.

[00:05:08]That was the last time I seen him until the funeral.

[00:05:12]And then people was coming out saying that he died he died and I was like no he didn't die you know I only seen one gunshot you know when he only got shot once but here in his like his buttocks area.

[00:05:22]Like no he can't be dead and I was just thinking it was rumors so I was just waiting you know cuz the emergency room was not letting anybody in.

[00:05:30]>> After that we we had diagrams so the the medical examiner she's doing the diagram circling circle then we wait for the final one. That'll that'll be sent to the station. So we took our notes from that. No photographs of course. We didn't we didn't take pictures at all, but they did, of course. And then we went back to the station and briefed Cooper about what what what happened and and any additional evidence, which I don't think we recovered any additional evidence.
