Storm Team Forecast: 11 pm June 1stAdded:
Now, Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Jim Teske with Central New York's most accurate forecast.
>> And we get you started with the shot of our sunset this evening at 8:37.
Not as pretty as some of the other ones cuz there were no clouds in the sky, but nonetheless, a beautiful-looking sky in Syracuse with wall-to-wall sunshine. There were, you know, there were some fair-weather cumulus clouds, but that's about it during the afternoon. Let's take a look and show you what's going on temperature-wise. Hey, we made it into the low 70s today, but we're into June now. So, you know, the bar is a little bit higher. Normal high 74, 45. That was the low this morning, and you can see that was 7° below normal. Look back at May, it was colder than normal. It was also wetter than normal, but maybe not by as much as you think. About 2/3 of an inch above normal. We had rain on It was all but eight days of the month, but 12 of them only recorded a trace at the airport. We haven't technically had any measurable rain since Memorial Day. So, we've gone a full week without measurable rain at the airport here in Syracuse. Temperature now 57, but mid-40s south and east of Syracuse, Hamilton, and Norwich also 45 showing up in Watertown as we show you the New York State Mesonet reporting sites. 44 in Morrisville, 44 in Woodgate. So, you know, there's going to be outlying areas that are in the upper 30s, even though only Cortland on this map showing up at 39. Here in Syracuse, we'll be in range of what we had last night at 45°. This is how it plays out on the time cast.
Even though the low is 45, that's going to come around 5, 5:30 in the morning.
By 7:00, we're probably already in the 50s, and with a good deal of sunshine, temperatures will rise pretty quickly.
By noon, we're around 70° here in Syracuse, but keep in mind, close to Lake Ontario, Ontario, it's going to be cooler with a west-northwesterly wind.
Lake temperature right now is 53, So, that's why it's only 61 at noon in Oswego. Temperatures continue to rise through the afternoon. Outside a very spotty shower close to the Catskills, I think it is a dry day and it will remain dry for the next several days. Pretty decent as we go through the evening. You know, the Syracuse Mets are back in town. Temperatures will be in the low 60s here by 9:00. Pretty quiet looking map beyond that. High pressure that's controlling our weather Tuesday night and into Wednesday. So, we got a good deal of sunshine here. And, you know, even though the winds are not turning into the south, we're not importing warmer air, that strong early June sun is going to warm this air mass over the next couple days. So, we go from the 71 today to 80° by the time we get to Wednesday. Again, cooler along the lake shore with the west-northwesterly winds.
Taking a look at the forecast beyond that, for Thursday, low 80s, mostly sunny skies. By the time you get to Friday, we're looking at 83 for the high, a mix of sun and clouds. So, we're dry the rest of the week. And, wouldn't you know it, showers are back in the forecast here just in time for the week. At least scattered showers, not a wash out on Saturday. Becoming a bit more humid as well. So, there'll be some showers, maybe even a thunderstorm on Sunday.
And, unsettled, I think even into early next week. We'll keep with the chance of a shower on Monday in 77.
