Hanging By a THREAD...Demolishing the Victorian School RoofAdded:
Oh. Oh.
Woohoo!
>> You go across the I beam.
>> No, you do not go across the I beam.
>> Right. I think what we do now is we go >> look up a tea and then come back.
>> Good morning everyone. So, we have got a pretty exciting day today. We've got our friends Paul and Aan who are both very good climbers and we're going to get roped up and go onto Whoa, that's so bright. We're going to get roped up and go onto the roof and start removing some of the tiles that are up there to get some of the weight off the roof. Now, we're pretty sure that all of the roof has got to come off anyway because it's rotten and there's dry rot. And all we want to do right now is save as many tiles as we can and just get the rest of the weight off it because we don't want it pulling down and pulling in any of the walls. So, we found some secure mounting points. We're going to rope up, get up there, and have a human chain passing tiles and other things back down that we want to save. So, yeah, let's go and do it.
Yeah, let's go. Let's go have some fun.
>> Good shot.
>> Sweet.
>> Can you shimmy it down anymore?
>> You got any pull on it or not? Really?
>> Ah, we're getting stuck.
>> Oh, now >> there we go.
All right. And >> everything to here and then pull it back in a second.
>> Rope up first or sling up first?
>> Put the sling and the rope together.
It's going to feed as one.
>> All right.
>> Cuz I want the sling over the wall if possible.
>> That will sit on top of the wall.
>> Okay.
>> And the rope's going to be attached to the other end of this.
>> Oh, okay. So, you're not chafing the rope.
>> I just have this thing that I don't like bits of stuff being rubbed up against block work.
Okay. Pull some through.
Keep pulling.
Come on.
Pull some through.
I'm getting caught on.
>> Okay. Let me go and have a little look from upstairs.
Right. Hold there.
>> I think it's stuck in the top bit. Do Why don't you go that way?
>> Okay. in.
>> Yeah.
>> Hold it there for a sec.
Um, go, mate. Yeah.
Got loads of slack on that. So >> Oh, I see it.
>> Yeah.
Right. You might not be able to give it a straight pull. Do you want me to go inside and flick the bit of >> Oh, go on. I think it's just a string.
Okay.
>> It's not.
>> Okay. Hold still.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
Sling over.
>> Sling over. Yeah.
>> Wicked. Right.
If we put a sling in.
>> We might have a bigger one.
>> No, we only need this.
>> Big shackle.
>> The steely.
>> Any ste that one?
>> And take a shop up with me.
>> Yeah. And that goes on a steely as well.
So >> this is >> that one there.
>> Okay.
>> Droney drone.
>> Yeah, you can throw bricks at it if you want.
>> What? You need the insurance bra.
>> Is that a good view for a bathroom?
>> Yeah. If some of the brick work was repaired on the opposing side.
>> Yeah. So, where I'm looking at the moment, the brick work on the far side that way is missing. It's cuz the sycamore tree has grown through the brick work. The plaster's blown on the bottom end wall, which is your, if you say that's north, >> your south wall.
>> Yeah. All of the renders blown on it.
And all of where the floor joists were that run across the mortar's basically crumbled. It's gone. That's what has happened everywhere. All of the mortar on the walls you can just like push and it falls off.
>> Yeah. So, >> but it's so thick as well. It's like that thick everywhere on the building.
>> So, you're going to have to do a lot of re-bricking.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, but all in all, it's it's it's okay.
It's just a lot of bloody work.
>> Yeah.
start making part of my hands and I'll [ __ ] do some runs.
>> Got nails in it.
She's also got nails in it >> cuz it's only extra weight on the surface. This one.
>> Yeah.
Small movements.
Even smaller movement.
Can you put that out the way?
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, that's a box on it. Hold on. Don't move it.
>> Okay.
>> And I just have to move through the >> the rubbish.
>> That one's going to break under your right foot.
>> Yeah, they're all going to break at some point.
might be able to pass some stuff then down.
Where's the door?
>> It's going to be pretty doors on the other side line.
>> It's not going to be easy. You potentially pass through here. This door as well.
>> That one. Yeah.
>> So, if we go around there now, cuz >> still.
>> Yeah. This is all good here. We've got we've got up to here.
>> Okay.
>> I can potentially get a ladder as well in here >> if need be. We can take some of that out the door.
>> Yeah, >> I just need to make >> I think this is holding him up right now.
>> Yeah, that's holding everything.
>> This is pretty solid in there.
>> And I've got about 100 kilos of lead underneath me.
>> Yeah, >> not lead slate.
>> Yeah.
>> And I'd like that slate out the way as I get there.
>> Okay. I'm going have to get another vape up gra and then we'll do this.
>> Okay.
>> Because then I can pass stuff to a be there. Yeah. And then pass after me.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, right.
Are you going to go up to the strap and tie in from there?
>> Am I going to go into Yes.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, I'm going to I'm going to throw you I'm going to go over the look over the side.
>> Yeah.
>> And get you to just take the load if you like to have it underneath me here. Okay.
Don't start using innuendos or subtle jokes at this time of day.
Look at all those slates.
>> So, first things first, I can take away nothing. Oh, I was expecting a lovely big bang.
>> Okay, that's cleared that.
>> That's what he wanted.
>> Yeah, have you got a line? You can wrap around it and then I can tug it from here or not.
>> We threw the red line today.
>> That's That's really heavy.
>> Yeah, >> there's a lot of water in the door >> on that. What I'm going to do is I'm going to leave it and flip it.
>> Yeah.
to get to a point where >> safe to reset.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Stunning.
Is that okay?
on the bath and step up again.
>> Okay.
>> And then once you get so your feet are up there where that wooden lintil is, >> yeah, >> you'll be fine.
>> Don't hold the black rope or it will be my but foot on the wall. You donut like you're absol. That's it. Now push. And again, stand and push as you go. That's it. And again, stand and push.
>> Okay.
>> Pulling from the top of the rope won't help.
>> Well, how do you now? Bump your ass and push the rope.
>> Bump. How you going to PUSH on those ropes too?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> So, it's easy enough to do.
>> Yeah.
>> Just take and take your hand away from the the knot itself. Yeah.
>> So inside and you get the hands free.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Beautiful.
>> Yeah.
One.
>> Okay.
>> Go.
>> And basically they've all got to go now straight onto the floor there.
>> That one's going to be >> huge.
Should we slide this one up and in that way? Cuz this is kind of blocking everything at the moment.
>> Well, I was thinking of pushing it back.
>> Yeah. Or back that way.
>> Okay.
You push a bit more. It might go out the door.
>> Might go out the door. This way.
>> Yeah. Wait. Oh, this way.
>> Might if you push it back that way.
Walk him around the other side of you.
Ready? 3 2 1.
Yeah, there we go.
>> Hey.
>> Yep.
>> Bit of a plank for you to pull out.
multi-layered bastard piece of that was that go out.
>> Yeah, that's it. That should go through the gap.
>> Mine up.
>> Are you good?
>> Yeah, I'm out.
>> Show him by just getting there slowly.
Slowly.
>> It's made such a difference already. I couldn't have done this without you guys.
>> It would have been a lot slower and a bit more dangerous.
>> Well, it's been slower.
>> Dangerous possible.
>> All these bits go. You see?
So, there's a bit of floor underneath us to about there.
>> You think it's still there as well?
>> There's a bit of something underneath us.
Do that.
LET'S be honest, these good quality buttons.
>> Yeah, they're thick, aren't they?
>> Wide and they're proper inch by 2 in batters, which is like unheard of.
Yeah.
Oh, nice.
I wasn't going to kick it out.
OH. OH.
OH. OH.
>> You're all right.
>> Do you want to hand something up?
>> No, you got it.
>> Do you want the chair now?
>> I got the bar out the way.
>> Wait, let me just >> laying backwards to try and kick it.
>> Hold on. Let me get to the other side.
>> Yeah.
>> Then catch.
>> There you are. You can only >> Yeah, LOVELY.
Not necessarily one you want to be doing all the time.
>> You make a great dancer.
>> How do you >> Don't you start.
>> I had a client the other day thought about going dancing again. Go through now your feet.
ain't strong enough.
>> Um, >> can you kick the bottom in? Wait, >> stop.
>> Yep.
>> Where are you?
>> Oh, can't really.
>> Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Let's rip that hinge off.
>> Hide out. Get your legs that way.
There you are. That'll go through now.
Mind that you mind your feet?
>> I mind it.
>> So much weight.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
Hold it up. Nice and slow.
Here, >> I've got it. I can take the slack out of it if you let go and just pull.
>> Nice and slow.
>> Lovely. You might want to get out of the way for this one.
>> We give it a go.
>> I reckon our combined weight. We don't need the extra ton. It's fine.
3 2 that >> you got a you got a loop there.
>> Oh yeah, that would be a better idea.
>> There we go.
Dodge again.
Okay. A wood a wooden beam there.
>> A rotted wooden beam or a solid wooden beam.
>> I don't think there's many solid wooden beans left in.
>> How much do you want to gamble? You're a gambling man.
>> No, not not on my not on this. I'm not cuz I'm trying to see where No. Right.
So, the next thing to get out is Do Some of these ones are going across here.
They're sticking out halfway here. These two.
>> Yeah, we have to get them out. And I'm also standing on something that is just in the void.
>> Or this. No, that's going to that just loosen everything, wouldn't it? Give it that. Let me just get out of there.
Copper pipe. That's it. Um, pulling those out might be a good thing.
Let's get a bit a bit of something on that cup.
If I get down nice and low on that, >> right, give that a pull.
All right, got it.
>> Hey, wait. Let me let me knock into it a little bit. Put my weight on it.
OH, YOU MIGHT NOT NEED TO. Hold on.
>> It looks like it's falling down the other way.
>> Go the other way, which is just as bloody useful.
>> Kick it.
>> In fact, that's probably more useful.
We want to get out first. Just the really big stuff that could >> Yeah. Or at least that far one as well.
>> Well, that far one is quite well attached.
>> Yeah. It looks like it might go better down that way.
>> I don't know what's going to go down better or up. Trying to see what where >> there's.
Do you think just jimming it a little bit will just knock it down the rest of the way?
There's a few like big beams kind of holding up all the rubbish and we're just trying to get them out cuz this that big one there just came out.
>> Hello mate.
Oh yeah, another one. Thank you. Oh my.
>> Oh, there's a load of them here.
>> Oh, it must be more.
>> Yeah, this floor must have been the same.
>> Okay.
>> Oh, Dad, you brought the sink. Oh, I know.
>> You broke the toilet, Dad.
>> That's all right. I just want to know where where I'm standing, mate.
>> What's the orange thing?
Orange thing.
Oh, yeah.
Right. There's a toilet wall there.
>> Gives you somewhere to stand, doesn't it?
>> Yeah.
A bit lead up.
>> Okay.
>> Pile.
>> Some of these bits of lead pile might have to just go >> Yeah.
>> Looking straight to the floor >> or the slates.
>> Yeah. Yeah. All of it might have to just go to the floor in a minute cuz it's really quite precarious now.
>> Yeah.
>> Where you're standing like you off.
>> YEAH.
YEAH.
OH, >> TILES.
Get them out. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just take them down.
Okay, there's a wall there.
>> What's that? That's >> Do you reckon saving some of these and then just jimmying this one here a little bit will just kind of bring >> I'm thinking half of this is going to fall to >> Yeah. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
So, saving some of the ones we can save here and then jimmying that fat one.
>> What? This one here?
>> Yeah.
>> Well, I'm trying to see what that fat one's on. It looks like it's on that steel.
>> Okay. So, you know the steel that goes across from one side to the other.
>> So, if you look there, that steel, >> it ends up here. I can see where it goes in the wall.
>> Yeah. And it's holding everything up.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. So, the answer >> Let's just drop it.
>> Yeah. But dropping it harder than you think.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, >> this is doing a lot of work right now for this bit.
>> Yeah. But getting that out is going to be an absolute [ __ ] Well, why don't we just weaken it?
>> We can lift it a bit and get it out.
>> Yeah.
>> There's a wall underneath it holding the weight. All right.
>> We can brush off that and the steel beam, isn't it?
>> So, they're toilets downstairs. There's toilets on this side. Toilets on that side.
>> Yeah.
>> One of them is a coal shoot, which the >> coal shoots here.
>> On that side, >> there little windows here. There was a bathroom up here. So, what I think that toilet came down from upstairs. These were these were either toilets or they're cuz the way they're sectioned off.
They're sectioned off rooms.
>> It's a bit odd. What's that doing here?
That's the door.
>> That looks like a trap door.
>> Yeah, it looks like something, doesn't it?
>> It's a massive door.
>> Do you want to chug these slates out, Paul?
>> Yeah, >> because we can save those right now at least, can't we?
>> Which ones? The ones that are there.
Well, I can stand I can stand on some of this >> cuz I've got the I've got the wall here.
>> That beam you're standing on, Paul, on the left foot is a bit spongy.
>> That Yeah, it's a bit spongy, but it's taking a bit of my weight >> or balance more than my weight.
The >> rope's trying to take more of your weight.
>> I'm not on the rope completely.
There's your hat. There you go.
>> Apex Drilling Services.
>> That could be your dancing company.
There's an old light fitting there.
>> Yeah, >> the sink actually looks in really good nick.
>> Sorry.
>> I quite like those blue tiles. The sink looks in really good nick.
>> Yeah, it's brand new.
>> Well, it doesn't actually look bad.
>> Well, it looks all right.
>> The sink and the um taps. It's all plumbed in still.
>> You see that?
>> No, the copper pipes have been cut away and naked.
>> Oh, underneath.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> And all the lead stuff here. Is this copper? Oh, it's lead. It's copper.
There's no copper everywhere.
>> I feel like we should put those blue tiles on though. Even if we just do a small amount of them.
>> Good job, gang.
>> Why are you pulling stuff up?
>> Oh, wait. So it's clear.
>> Makes our lives easier.
>> Sorry.
>> Yeah. Don't wipe any out.
>> Um, right. If we're going to do that, you need to make sure that that goes straight down.
>> Yeah.
>> And you need to make sure that you're not >> I'm in a fairly good place at the moment.
>> You're in a good place.
This goes all the way over to THE OTHER SIDE.
HOW ARE YOU?
Stay away.
>> Oh, I can see down.
what we want.
>> We can now you boys having great fun, aren't you?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Smash. Smashing stuff apart. It's awesome.
>> He's building it back up in about 2 years time.
>> YEAH.
>> Need a good hooking up.
>> Yeah.
in the front.
>> You want to bring it this way?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. YEAH.
>> Hold on.
>> That is when that goes. That's not going to be pulled down with it, is it?
>> What? Uh, no, he's still on his fine there.
Strong camera.
>> Oh, well, the camera.
There we go.
Good. Yeah.
Let's pull that out.
>> There you go.
>> We have visibility.
>> Happy new year.
>> Woohoo.
>> You go across the eye beam.
>> No, you do not go across the eye beam.
Right. I think what we do now is we go >> look up a tea and then come back.
