In democratic systems, political parties conduct internal primary elections to select candidates for official elections, with high voter turnout indicating strong citizen engagement in the democratic process. The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) held primaries in the Ol Kalou Constituency to select their candidate for the July 16th by-election, which would follow the death of Area MP David Kao. The primaries attracted large crowds across five wards, with nine aspirants competing. Party officials emphasized that the DCP was the first party to hold open elections with large turnout, promising fair, free nomination processes without rigging or corruption. The eventual nominee would face Samuel Muchina Nyaga of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and a yet-to-be-declared Jubilee candidate in the fiercely contested by-election.

They streamed into polling stations early Saturday morning across the five wards of constituency as nine aspirants battled it out in the democracy for the citizens party DCP party primaries young and elderly voters alike turned out in large numbers with participation notably higher than what was with nest on Friday. and the young man should know these are the ones with the words behind us we are the people we promote but the young man should know and the young man should know those the person will know that this one will manage us this one will add us good senior DCP officials express satisfaction with the voter turnout saying residents had responded positively to the party's called to participate in choosing the candidate who will carry the party's ticket in the upcoming by election there is a certain procedure which is more mature than the procedure of the multi-party system here in Kenya. Secondly, I have also come here today to represent my party leader, Excellency Rigadhi Gashagwa, who believes that the DCP is a democratic party. You see, we are the first party to hold open elections, elections that have a large turnout, and elections that we are confident will be a guide in many areas here in Kenya.
So we have confirmed that indeed any candidate who is running with our party, the DCP party will go through a fair free nomination. So I have been here and what made me so happy since morning is the fact that so many young people showed up and the fact that they have believed that the future belongs to them.
You can count on DCP that if you are an aspirant or if you are a voter that there shall be no rigging, no corruption, no mal practice and everything shall be done according to what is required in law.
Several aspirants said the high turnout was an indication that all color voters were eager to shape the outcome of the race. vowing to mount vigorous campaigns ahead of the fiercely contested election. We have all agreed that whoever wins today's election, we will all support him.
The seat fell and following the death of area MP David Kao in March this year.
Voting is currently underway with the results expected later tonight.
Meanwhile the planned nominations by the Jubilee party failed to take place as they scheduled.
It's true that we are doing it, but you know there is a party leadership meeting that was held yesterday, but that meeting has been postponed.
They will meet on Monday and we will get direction. The July 16th, all kalau by election is shaping up as a crucial litmus test for rival political parties particularly the ruling party UDA on whether the mountain will prove slippery to climb politically. Ben Kirozen TV Olkalau Nyandarwa kaoTI
