This video demonstrates the step-by-step process of assembling a 9-inch Ford rear differential, including pressing axle studs (1/2 inch or 7/16 inch) into the housing, installing bearings and lock collars with grease application, applying silicone sealant around studs to prevent leaks, installing caliper mount brackets with proper orientation, and using spacers to correctly position the caliper on the rotor. The assembly requires following a specific sequence and ensuring components are oriented correctly, as some parts can only be installed one way.

How to assemble a 9” Ford differentialAdded:
So, we're going to have the world-famous Gibby show us how to put together a 9-in rear end in under 3 minutes.
>> Under 3 minutes is the key.
>> Under 3 minutes?
>> This is going to be a short.
So, start Start where we're going to start.
>> Wherever you want to start, I got axle set up there to press studs in. We figured out which These are neat axle kits because they come with 1/2 in or 7/16 studs. Whatever your front rotors are, you can >> Ford or Chevy >> Or you can do Ford or Chevy.
>> So, let's start by putting our studs in.
We know we need Chevy.
>> kit comes with different studs.
>> 1/2 in >> and 7/16.
>> So, >> You >> They press into the same holes. You've got a either Ford or Chevy bolt pattern and you've got it ready to push in.
>> Mhm.
>> So, you've set it in there. You've got it on a press and then we've got a a tool made hollow here >> Mhm.
>> just press it down.
Presses it down.
>> There you go.
>> Studs in, pushed up against the backside.
>> Got a little bit more to go on this side.
>> Okay.
We'll get all them in first.
So, we got all the studs are pushed in.
>> All the studs are pushed in.
>> Next.
>> We're going to put the bearing >> Put the bearing.
>> and the lock collar on.
>> and the lock collar.
>> I like to put a little grease around my seal so it's not dry fit and then as I pump Once I get close to the seal, I slow down and I like to spin that a little bit because I've had this lip get caught underneath and you'll hear it snap.
That's it.
>> Got your axle together.
>> Yep, axles are together.
>> Now, we've got center section.
>> end bearings are on. Come on. Now, we're going to set the chunk.
>> Put the chunk in.
>> Put a little silicone. I like the ultra black and make sure you go around the stud. These studs will leak through the backside. So, I like to go and just a little round there.
It's been sitting for probably 10 minutes with that.
>> We've taken and welded our brackets onto this rear end.
>> Yep.
>> It's going to be on a '34 >> Yep.
>> Ford.
>> There you go.
>> There you >> Put the nuts on.
>> And I don't think you can turn it upside down. It only goes one way.
>> Only goes one way. Yeah, you cannot uh you can't screw that up.
>> All right, so we're setting the axle in.
This is like a shim.
Normally, there's going to be a plate that goes around here.
>> Right.
>> To bolt it in.
>> Usually, if you're not using this type of uh caliper mount, I guess you would call it. You got the >> That would need to go on before the bearing.
>> Right. You would have to bat this on this side of the bearing when you press it on.
>> But the good news is >> with the caliper mounts we're using, this goes right over it, and you don't have to >> And you bolt it on.
>> And you bolt it on. But, usually, the shims they give me have it they're smaller diameter. They got a notch in them just like this. But I had to make sure we got these on.
Let me get on this side.
>> Make sure you got the bracket bent the right way.
>> Same as the other side.
>> Same as the other side. So, you want the caliper on the back side.
>> Yeah, these mounts you can put the caliper on the back side. You can put it up, you can put it down, you put it on the front side. You pretty much can do >> Put them anywhere.
>> Wherever you wanted to put it.
>> So, you've got this bracket already on.
>> Yep.
>> Tightening it up. Of course, there's the hole right here. You can spin it around to get your socket on the bolt.
You've got the bracket on. No, you don't have the bracket on this one. You've got the >> Right.
>> plate that the bracket bolts to on.
>> Right. Which what's holds the bearing and axle in it is the plate that >> That holds the >> That holds the caliper.
>> the caliper.
>> Right.
>> And then there's some spacers to go on.
I already >> They all have >> and got this one on.
>> Yeah.
>> So, the key is spacing the caliper out so that it fits on the rotor.
>> Right. And then you use all the spacers they give. There ain't no leftovers on this. So, um I put them where it's like the bigs on the little ones are on the outside. The big ones you can put them anywhere you want. That's how it.
>> But that's it.
Just go one step at a time and then once the steps are done >> They uh do that.
>> You're all done.
Good job, Jimmy.
>> Yeah.
>> I'm going to need to edit some of this out though. You you went over 3 minutes.
>> I know I went over 3 minutes.
>> All right.
>> All right.
>> You did it.
It's looking good.
>> I know it was a little longer than 3 minutes though unless you're going to edit it.
>> No, it wasn't. It comes >> No, it was good.
>> 2 minutes and 58 seconds.
>> Good.
>> Yeah.
I got to do the 34.
Uh so, we got to flip the 34 over and put the doors back on. It's ready to go and you can come.
>> Uh didn't we flip it already?
>> No, flip flip it back over.
>> We did.
>> Oh, did you?
>> Yeah, it's flipped over.
>> Oh, I was like sitting down resting.
>> No.
>> I had too much excitement with the ghost this morning.
>> Yeah, me and Dave flipped that already.
Yeah, he's priming it.
>> Oh, you guys are awesome.
>> Well, Dave's awesome. I just helped him.
He's doing all the body work.
>> So, I want to go they loaded me up with scraps so >> Uh-huh.
>> I'll clean up the mess. Get rid of that.
I'm going to let you guys do body work.
>> Okay.
>> Eddie's huffing glue.
You got Randy's seat coming together.
>> Yeah.
>> This one's a little bit different than most of them but got a flat bottom on it.
But same principle. Fiberglass on the back side and >> Yeah.
>> Make the uh upholstery so the design in it.
It's quite a quite a contraption here.
Is it saving some of our old uh our old foam?
>> No, that way I can use one sheet on these.
>> Oh, okay.
>> Yeah, see that was the trimmings off of everything and I just folded it in the bottom.
>> And it works.
>> It works.
Yeah.
>> We're going to give Dave some time here.
He feel left out.
He getting some primer on this '34. It's all ready to go. Bottom's all done and primed.
Here we got the rear end forward. This morning we got all the other parts frame done, everything ready to go.
And uh not sure what who the customer name is, but it can go this week. I think he's going to come pick it up.
Give me a moment. Working on the the C cab here for Randy. I've been working on it some doing body work. He can see on top. Picking up the seams.
Got the door. He's got this door swinging.
Suicide is swinging really nicely, too.
And it's just like really nice.
And uh a little bit of body work around body work the seams on the door back here. It doesn't get a door on left side.
>> That's the nicest door I've seen.
>> I know. That is a but >> Very nice.
>> That's he was going woo woo woo. He what he was saying was it's the nicest door he's seen. So, it is pretty nice.
I'll do a little body work around it and this will be ready to go home. That's what Eddie's doing the upholstery for, the gray.
So, that seat will drop right in here into the the flat spot.
I'm going to go take some scrap to the scrap yard. We're cleaning up around here. Barrels and all that. The boys brought it brought it up from the glass shop.
And I need to get that and uh get back and see what we can do later on today.
