[00:00:13]Paul did not believe that Jesus was God.

[00:00:16]He believed, however, that he was a div- a being who was given divinity.

[00:00:24]And he Paul is viewing Jesus as sort of an uh like a middle platonic view that Jesus was kind of like a divine being, but he was not the same as the God created the heavens and the earth. So, therefore, uh in 1 Corinthians 15, we have that's probably the most famous chapter in the in all of Paul's letters, because it it goes through the crucifixion and Paul is going to claim that Jesus appeared to many people, and then he rose, but what rose? I think this is where you where you're viewing it. But he he used the metaphor of a seed that's planted, and what then emerges as a plant, it is the seed is destroyed, disappears, and what emerges then is a something completely different, and therefore Jesus resurrected Jesus is a spiritual body.

[00:01:27]It's a body, but it's a spiritual body, and it's something strikingly different than the physical body that was crucified.

[00:01:37]None of this is about restoration. All this really is the Greco-Roman view that when a person's soul emerges, it is not a part of the physical body, and that all in the Greco-Roman world, they thought that the Jews were insane for believing in a physical resurrection of dead.

[00:02:04]Paul's views were well seated in the Greco-Roman world in the middle Platonic world, which reject the physical resurrection, but sought Now, in this world, they all believed in an afterlife.

[00:02:20]But to them, the a resurrection or an afterlife was a completely spiritual being and one that did not uh go back to the grave and come back in a physical body. This view of Paul and only this view of Paul is going to be rejected by the Gospels. So, that's what's going on in 1 Corinthians 15. And that is Jesus rose, there are witnesses and so on. Paul's going to claim this happened according to the scripture in verse 3 and 4.

[00:02:50]Paul's going to say explain the necessity that Jesus is resurrection means if Jesus didn't resurrect, then [snorts] everything we're doing is for nothing, which is true. It's a big mistake. But that's the context that Paul is providing and that is that the resurrection is something that is entirely different than the body. Now, that's going to be rejected by the Gospels, not by Mark as authentic Mark, meaning up to verse 8, doesn't have a resurrection physical resurrection accounts of seeing Jesus and the women.

[00:03:22]But in Matthew, Luke, and John, they're going to go a very long way to correct the record and have be sure that the resurrected Jesus is a physical body.

[00:03:33]Luke famously, he Jesus eating fish with the disciples in Jerusalem where he makes an appearance. You have Timothy, uh excuse me, Thomas in John chapter 20 who physically touches Jesus. So, thank you for your thoughtful question.
