Despite India's booming creator economy with 4 million creators, nearly 90% cannot make a sustainable living, as only 8-10% earn enough to go full-time; the market follows a winner-takes-all model where 70% of brand spending flows to just 1-5% of top creators, while nano and micro influencers often earn below 18,000 rupees monthly, facing structural challenges like opaque pricing and limited access to agencies.

9 In 10 Indian Creators Struggle To Earn Online | Creator Economy Reality | World Business WatchAñadido:
But have you been looking to quit your job to become a content creator?
You may want to hold that resignation meal because in India's creator economy, going viral doesn't always mean going solvent. The sector is booming, but the money isn't quite following the likes. A recent report cited by influencer marketing platform Kofluence shows that nearly nine out of 10 influencers in India still can't make a sustainable living.
India now has 4 million creators, but only 8 to 10% earn enough to go full-time.
In other words, reels are the new resumes, but it doesn't guarantee a full-time gig.
The market is increasingly winner takes it all, where a tiny slice of top creators capture the bulk of brand deals. In fact, the report claims nearly 70% of brand spending flows to just 1 to 5% of creators. For everyone else, it's a hustle economy that involves collabs, patchy deals, and exposure that doesn't always pay the bills.
For many nano and micro influencers, monthly earnings are below 18,000 rupees, making passion projects feel more like side hustles than careers.
There are structural gaps too, algorithms, opaque pricing, and limited access to agencies or data tools. Still, brands are betting big on creators.
And the ecosystem is evolving fast.
Monetization tools, niche communities, and direct audience models could change the game.
However, until then, content may be the new currency, but for most in the new orange, income is still in the red.
