Gold-plated, gold-filled, and karat gold.Gold refining from the mix.
Added:Hello, internet. Welcome to the channel.
I'm AK.
Today is my day off and today I want to visit local flea markets all free stores.
Maybe I will get lucky and find something really cheap that I can make a little money on.
I like to spend my weekends in free stores.
Beautiful rings, but there is nothing available in them.
Stainless steel steel, copper, brass.
Jewelry, a broach, possibly gold plated.
I will have to spend some time checking all this jewelry. There is a good chance to find something cheap with silver.
It's stainless steel.
Many jars with jewelry.
I have seen several videos of people buying these jars with all sort of jewelry and finding gold or silver pieces in this junk.
Or finding very expensive crystals or diamonds.
I bought these jars twice. I have this experience.
And honestly, I didn't find anything worthwhile. In one jar, I found three small 6 g sterling silver balls and I paid 20 bucks for the jar.
I don't know.
I will carefully inspect all these jars visually with a magnet.
I hope maybe I will find something.
This is definitely not junk.
Gold and silver.
And it's too expensive for my refining.
>> Was that outside?
>> Oh, yard sale.
The chains are very cheap and I will definitely look through them all.
Sometimes you can find something worthwhile in this beautiful junk.
Sometimes sellers didn't notice that a chain is gold plated.
I bought one small jar after all because I noticed a watch case inside. 12K gold filled watch case.
Two 12K gold filled brooches or whatever it is.
12K gold filled eye glass cases.
A gold plated chain, just gold plated.
A 10K gold filled chain.
A gold plated bracelet or whatever it is.
And now delicious stuff. 10.5 g of a 10 karat gold chain. Solid gold.
And 8 g 753 mg of 14 karat jewelry. I test it all.
This is real solid gold.
And to be honest, I collected [sighs] this jewelry not in one day, but in a month.
So I have 400 ml of water in my beaker now, 110 ml of sulfuric acid.
Now I have electrolyte in my beaker.
And ammonium nitrate.
I will dissolve all the metals at once in aqua regia.
Later I will add more electrolyte.
So, from 10 and 14 karat gold, I should get 9 g 897 mg of 24 karat gold, right?
And of course, plus gold from gold-plated and gold-filled materials, right?
I'm expecting at least No, I expected it more than 10 g.
Huh, it's strange.
Maybe I need more ammonium nitrate.
Huh.
I don't understand what's going on.
Okay, the gold-plated chain and gold-filled material are dissolving. I see gold flakes, but the karat gold doesn't react to the acid at all. And I figured out what's going on. I forgot the salt.
Hydrochloric acid.
You can use salt instead of hydrochloric acid.
Okay, now I have aqua regia in my beaker. [clears throat] Oh, yeah.
Okay, people. Now everything is dissolving, including the karat gold.
Very good.
All the metals, except the silver, have dissolved.
And now I need to catch the silver on the filter.
Okay, the gold and copper are liquid, but the silver isn't. This is my silver from karat gold.
>> Okay, people. All the dirt and silver are on the filter. This gray sediment is silver.
Silver from carrots gold. If anyone want to know how to properly extract the silver from the filter, I have a video.
I will leave the link below, okay?
Now, I need to leave the copper, lead, tin, and nickel in a liquid state, and I need to drop gold to the bottom of the beaker.
For this, I will use iron sulfate.
The solution is very hot.
Okay.
Iron sulfate.
Oh, yeah. Very good.
I can already see gold flakes on the surface of of the solution.
Now, since the solution is dirty and has a lot of metals in it, I want to leave it overnight so that the gold settles completely to the bottom. Tomorrow, 100% of the gold will be at the bottom.
And now, guys, I want to help one of my viewers.
I was asked how to distinguish aluminum from the zinc. Well, if you need to determine aluminum from zinc or regular steel from stainless steel, you know, sometimes it's difficult because metals look same.
Same shiny.
Like I I idea this it zinc or aluminum?
So, guys, for this you need copper nitrate.
You can make your own copper nitrate by dissolving copper some copper or you can buy it any hard hardware store.
So, look.
Just apply a little copper nitrate to the surface.
And if nothing happens, see? Nothing happens. It's aluminum.
Okay, one more time.
Nothing happened at all.
Now, this piece.
Look at the surface.
A chemical reaction immediately occurs.
The copper sticks to the metal, which means it's zinc.
See?
And on this piece, still nothing.
Because this is aluminum.
One more time.
Just little bit of copper nitrate. If you see a black spot, it's zinc.
Sometimes people say if aluminum heavy, it's zinc. So, this piece pretty heavy.
Let's check it.
Uh And nothing happened.
Okay, check this piece.
Let's check this piece.
Just touch with copper nitrate.
Boom.
You see black spot.
This is zinc.
And here still nothing because this is aluminum.
Aluminum, zinc, aluminum, zinc.
Okay, one more time.
Boom.
This is zinc.
So, guys, I hope you understand. Okay, now.
Steel, regular steel or stainless steel.
How you can figure out?
Um Okay, first I want to clean the surface >> [music] >> a little to remove the oils.
Okay.
The same here.
And here, too.
Shiny surface.
So, same like this aluminum or zinc.
Just apply a little bit copper nitrate on the metal.
Here, too.
And check it out.
Copper plated to the steel.
Which means this is regular steel.
And here nothing happens.
Ah, just shadow.
Oh, see?
No any copper.
Sometimes um people say um stainless steel [music] is not magnetic." See? Still magnetic and stainless steel magnetic.
Some piece of stainless steel can be magnetic. Some piece of stainless steel can be non-magnetic. Look.
Non-magnetic.
Steel always magnetic.
But, stainless steel can be magnetic or non-magnetic.
So, just in case, take a copper nitrate.
>> [screaming] >> See?
No any copper. Nothing plated.
Which means this is stainless steel.
So, people, I hope I have explained it well.
Okay, after 1 night, all the gold should have dropped to the bottom and all other metals remain in a liquid state.
The solution going to the waste bucket.
Nice amount of gold.
Sponge. This is why I like to use iron sulfate instead of SMB.
Huge sponge.
To the waste bucket, also.
All go.
It's um it's still not pure gold and to make it pure, I need to redissolve it.
But first I want to boil my gold in hydrochloric acid to remove iron sulfate from the gold.
There you go.
>> [clears throat] >> Like that.
Enough.
Dirty hydrochloric acid also going to the waste bucket.
Ah, hot.
And now I need to redissolve my gold.
Oh, no, actually I need water.
I want to remove hydrochloric acid, dirty hydrochloric acid.
Okay, my golden sponge ready for aqua regia.
60 ml of hydrochloric acid and 10 ml of nitric acid.
6 to 1. I hope it will be enough.
Oops.
Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah.
>> Oh, no. No, NO, NO, NO, NO.
>> OOH.
>> [laughter] >> I catch it.
>> [laughter] >> No way.
Gold expensive.
I don't I don't to lose it.
Well, >> [bell] >> where did it go?
The gold has dissolved.
Now I need to filter my beautiful solution.
The gold dissolved very, very slow because I only use 10 ml of nitric acid to prepare aqua regia in a 6:1 ratio, and this 10 ml were enough.
Okay, people, filtration is over, and rain is over, too.
Now I need to drop all gold from my beautiful chlorauric acid to the bottom of the beaker.
For that, I will use sodium metabisulfite.
SMB, sodium metabisulfite.
There you go.
Very good.
Second spoon.
I believe I need one more spoon.
>> Just a little bit more.
Oh, yeah.
That's enough white foam, which means enough of enough of sodium metabisulfite.
>> [cough] [laughter] >> Damn it.
Okay, all gold to the bottom.
This is a waste bucket.
There you go.
Gold from gold plated, gold filled, and carrots jewelry.
Water.
I don't know what happened, but suddenly it was night. There was no night all day, and then suddenly it was night.
Cool.
After the night, 100% all the gold to the bottom.
Wow.
Okay, now [sighs] 1 second.
Now I'm going to boil my gold in hydrochloric acid.
Hydrochloric acid.
>> to the waste bucket.
Dirty hydrochloric acid.
>> [cough] >> Color very good.
Water.
To the waste bucket.
Wow, awesome color.
And just in case, I want to boil my gold in hydrochloric acid one more time.
As always, I want pure gold, only pure gold.
There you go.
The hydrochloric acid is completely clear with no any tint.
Now, I'm sure my gold is pure.
Water.
This is distilled water. I collect this water from the rain. Rainwater.
Dirt.
Okay.
Gold sediment pretty heavy.
Awesome color.
So, now time to dry it and melt it.
Let's go.
>> [music] [music] [music] [singing] [music] >> Well, people, the moment of truth.
How much gold did I manage to get in eight days off spent in second-hand shops? 50 g.
Uh what?
Exactly 50 g.
Where did it go?
11 g 908 mg.
11 g 908.
>> Good job.
>> Thanks for being with me. I hope to see you in the comments. Take care.
This refining is finished and I'm going to the neighboring town. There are huge flea markets has opened today.
Let's go.
