This video demonstrates how meteorologists use radar technology and weather monitoring to forecast precipitation patterns and assess flood risks, explaining that heavy rain accumulation of 1-2 inches can cause localized flooding, and that flood watches may extend beyond active rainfall periods due to rising river levels and saturated ground conditions.

Columbus, Ohio weather forecast for May 27, 2026 | Heavy rain affecting the morning commuteAdded:
Yeah. Well, just stay safe and just know this is the last day of rain for a little bit of time. So, if we can get through today, I know there's a lot more sunshine in the forecast. But, I know it is something everybody's happy about it, for sure. This weekend definitely was very, very a downpour after downpour, but I can tell you this morning, here's what you need to know about our 10 weather impact alert. It is going to be for that potential of continued heavy rain and storms. We're going to see some localized flooding in some spots. And right now, you can see on our live radar for Columbus, some of the heavier rains right now staying just south of the city. Right along the 270 corridor and out to 70 as you head into Licking County toward Newark. So, let me zoom in and show you what we are seeing. You can see a lot more lightning in the last half hour. Now, things are starting to move out, but we still do have some clusters of heavier rain that's pushing through. And you can see we've already picked up in just the last 6 hours between 1 to 2 inches in some spots.
Where you start to get these purples, that's an inch and a half to 2 inches.
That's likely where we could see some of that localized flooding, so just keep that in mind. But, an overall picture shows you how active things are right now. And we could still see some more rain start to develop right along this front and this boundary that's set up right along 70. But, there's a flood watch that continues for us the rest of the day today. It actually extends through early Thursday, so we could still see some lingering even though the rain stops. Just keep that in mind, especially with those rising river levels. And you can see here at the hour-by-hour forecast, it's going to come in clusters for us. So, let's move ahead to 6. Again, you can see there are going to be little areas where we have more rain than others. And then in some spots, it'll actually be cloudy to mostly cloudy. Here's 8:00. Again, the corridor right now is I-70. That's where we're seeing most of this activity. And then as we go into this afternoon, we could still have a few more rounds of showers and heavy downpours before the commute home. And then this starts to get pulled down to the south, and by later tonight this will be done. This will be wrapped up as we go overnight into Thursday. And we are going to see a much quieter day. But, you can see those chances of rain linger. So, it may not be all throughout the day, but we are going to have periods of rain that's going to continue for us. And again, any of those downpours could be super soakers, [music] and that's where we run that risk of flooding. But, you can see after today, look at this. It's literally rinse and repeat forecast without the rain as we go into the next couple of days. We're going to be seeing rain go away, and then we're replaced by plenty of sunshine and dry conditions.
Something else that'll be leaving us alone will be that humidity. And it's going to be a very stagnant pattern until at least next Tuesday. And even then, that's only a 10% chance of rain.
And so, once we get past today, we should start to dry out really nicely heading into the weekend. So, if you are hoping to get some things done to outdoors, just know that this rain today is not going to last forever, and we will have a much quieter pattern as we go into the first days of June. And hard to believe next week, the Memorial Tournament here in Dublin.
