Defining a whole generation through a checklist of tragedies feels more like trauma-branding than actual historical insight. It mistakes witnessing global news cycles for a unique collective identity.

Generation X, we've seen a lot. And now somebody finally sees us. Feels weird...Added:
One generation is always left out of the conversation.
>> Dude, stop. Seriously, we know who you're talking about. And it's okay. We don't mind.
>> One generation that nobody ever talks about is Gen X.
>> Come on. I said we don't mind. Now they probably heard you.
>> And it's funny because they're low-key labeled like the forgotten generation.
>> Yeah. Well, unfortunately, we're not nearly as forgotten as we used to be. I might have had something to do with that. And if so, I'm sorry. But get your point.
>> I feel like they had the craziest upbringing. When you really think about it, like >> upbringing as in being raised, I don't I don't I don't know that we had that. We got consequences, reprimand, spankings. We got the switch, the belt, the fly swatter, the slipper, the wooden spoon. We got told any number of things that have told the children today might qualify as at least slightly traumatizing. Is that what you meant by upbringing? when they were born was like the late 60s,7s and then early early early I think part of the 80s >> technically 1965 to 1980 >> they were were alive when it was [ __ ] cults and goddamn serial killers in the 70s and 80s >> Ted Bundy John Wayne Gayy David Burkowitz Son of Sam Zodiac Killer Hillside Stranglers Freeway Killer Rodney Alcala the dating game killer the nightstalker the green river killer BTK killer the Golden State Killer also known East Area Killer. He was the original Nightstalker. You see, even our serial killers had sequels. Henry Lee Lucas, Otis Tulle, Herbert Mullen, Sunday Morning Slasher, The Angel of Death, the Torso Killer, and my hometown favorite, the Jennese River Killer.
Dude, I I'm not done. I'm just running out of time, so continue.
>> Then they watched the freaking challenger blow up on live television in elementary or middle school.
>> I was 16, but yeah, that too.
>> The Rodney King riots in LA, the OJ Simpson trial, then 9/11, the freaking economy crash in 2008.
>> 2008. Back up. Some of us Gen Xers remember being kids during the 70s.
Remember Black Monday in ' 87, the.com bubble bursting in 2000. We learned early and often that economic disasters, well, there's one hiding behind every corner. My parents are Gen X. So, I love being able to talk to them about all of these things cuz they were literally alive and they seen that [ __ ] firsthand like to this day. They still like from then till now they've seen so many crazy things. It's really crazy to think about.
>> Is this what it means to be seen, appreciated, understood. Dude, if every time they noticed us went like this, may maybe we wouldn't mind it so much.
