MAMMOTION LUBA 3 AWD, Will It Replace My Zero Turn ?

[00:00:00]Couple weeks ago, Motion contacted me about sending out a Luba 3 all-wheel drive for me to try out and if I'd be willing to make a couple videos about it, if I liked it. And uh here it is. They uh they sent this to me free of charge in return for a couple honest videos. So, I'm just going to open it up here and show you. This is really the smartest robotic lawn mower out there available today from what I understand. I've had several of these offered to me in the past and I've always turned them down because I just didn't feel they were, you know, ready for my kind of lawn. So, uh, this is going to be a fun test. And let's start with the unpacking here. As you can see, it was really packed well.

[00:00:50]U very simple assembly. Couple pieces there, you know, power brick to plug in a charging base and a little rain shield there. And there's a RTK pole. That's not needed in my case because I have a for good 4G connection.

[00:01:07]And just a couple pieces that you have to assemble some guards and stuff.

[00:01:13]So, pretty much that's what it looks like. And this does have u it's just an amazing uh vision detection and uh navigation system on it.

[00:01:26]And let's put it together now. Simple thing. Just have to put the front bumper on. Little cable plugs in there. Then you squeeze two clips sideways and just press it in place. And you get a screwdriver and the hardware included with it. So, takes a couple seconds to put that on. Then you have to flip it over. Now, they they say to keep this container um insert for when you want to flip it over to protect all the cameras and AI stuff on the top. And then there's two little orange safety guards that go on the side here. And again, you know, the screwdriver comes with it. So, it's real easy assembly. I think anybody could do it. Just takes five minutes to get this thing up and going. And then there's what the blades look like. There are six uh reversible flippable blades on two discs that spin. And I'll show you a little more of the specs in a, you know, a couple seconds, but has wheels on it that allow it to turn sideways like a zero turn and also full suspension on the front to um retain traction in all cases.

[00:02:39]And it has specially designed rear wheels on it. You can see that are designed for traction and all kinds of terrain without tearing it up.

[00:02:49]So that's it. I think it weighs about 42 lbs this model with the battery. And all you have to do is put a key in to operate it. Um that's required for it to run. And next thing is charging station.

[00:03:04]Just uh snap that rain shield on there.

[00:03:07]And that comes with a power brick that has a long cord on it and some ground screws, little plastic screws and a wrench to get going. And this does include an extra set of blades. So, you should be good for quite a while with this setup. Now, those ground screws screw right into the uh grass, you can see, and just put them on there to uh keep it from moving around. And I'm plugging this into my solar system here.

[00:03:35]So, this will be 100% solar power. You know, it won't cost me anything to run basically.

[00:03:42]And then you just have to kind of set it on the charging station to get it activated. And you'll see it starts charging there. Now, while charging, let's look at some of the specs. And this is the first Tri Fusion navigation system on a mower like this. It does come with the auto live map and app storage with 10 lawn backup on the cloud. Uh, it does have drop mower. You can just drop and it'll automatically mow an area. And it does not need any kind of hazardous fuel. Um, it's got all kinds of smart features in it. Uh, anti-fall protection. And it's got twice the brain power and twice the awareness of the last models and obstacle avoidance and wildlife safety. This will fit through a gap as narrow as 27.6 in wide. So, it will do pass. And it does have a um up to a 15 amp hour battery depending on which model that you get, which is sized according to your acreage. And it also has an intelligent battery management system. That's really important in a system like this to make for long life.

[00:04:53]Now, it does have um dual cutting mowers that are very powerful and also a very good map editing app that maps it. So, let's get started here.

[00:05:08]Now, first thing you have to do is go install the app on your phone. And you really do need a phone that you know is capable of running an app for this machine to work.

[00:05:18]And then let's power it on. And the other thing you have to do is go set up an account for the app to work. And then just follow the instructions and add the Luba to your account. It takes a while sometimes and uh this is running on 4G wifi and Bluetooth. So you make have to make sure that you get the network set up properly. And I do not have a RTK pole either. So once you get going on the in the app, it does tell you how to assemble the robot and how to get started, how to uh select location, install a charging station, connect to station, and like I said, RTK is not required for me with the 4G. So that's really a great feature.

[00:06:16]And then you just go back and you get your LUVA there.

[00:06:22]Now, I did have a uh firmware upgrade first thing. So, you always want to make sure that you do that and it does it automatically and just takes a couple minutes to do it. That way, you're um running with the latest settings in the robot.

[00:06:39]Now, connecting to the Luba 3 could be iffy. It could take up to 2 to 3 minutes I found at times. It all depends on I think whether it's hooked to the Wi-Fi or the Bluetooth or the 4G. So kind of bounces between those connections in my case and uh that does seem to slow down the actual connecting to it. So the app the I will tell you right now the hardware is 100% solid. The app is a little bit iffy at times, but they're working on that constantly to upgrade it.

[00:07:17]So, first thing you have to do is go through and map your lawn out. Pretty much it's real easy to uh to just follow the instructions.

[00:07:31]All right. So then it goes through uh you know the basic lawn mapping instructions and it's kind of like driving a little RC car once you get going. You just drive this around the perimeter of your yard and you can set up different areas and different maps and before you get going it goes through self checks.

[00:07:55]And I did have to turn off the RTK in my settings. So I went in there and turned that off.

[00:08:02]And then you just drive it around the perimeter. I'm just going to do a small area to get started. This is my first uh run around. And try to keep it as close to items as I can.

[00:08:16]And your little like joysticks that you use with your fingertips on the phone.

[00:08:20]So very easy to uh set up the area.

[00:08:25]And like I said, I'm starting with just a small area with no obstacles. Right now, you can see I'm staying inside those trees and stuff just for the first test.

[00:08:37]So, once you come around and you um close the uh area in, it automatically you get a button to add the uh lawn and that's it. Then you can just hit the button mow. And what it does is I have it set up to do a couple laps around the outside first to clean up the outside edges.

[00:08:59]And boy, this thing is really fun to watch. It's kind of like uh you really want to keep an eye on it in the beginning because you don't trust it, but after a couple times of use and you realize this thing's very reliable and always repeats. It's uh it's dead on perfect with the navigation. Really amazing.

[00:09:18]So, that does a couple of trips around the outside and then it's going to start. I have it set to um go back and forth like in this pattern. And while that's mowing, I figure I'll throw some lunch on a couple tuna steaks, pick some spinach, and make spinach salad.

[00:09:35]So, you know, things out there mowing away while I'm inside munching away. So, uh really pretty amazing. You can see the really nice straight lines that it leaves.

[00:09:46]Um perfect every time. My wife actually named it Chomper and she's just amazed she can be outside with this thing mowing because she's got chemical sensitivity and can't get near the exhaust fumes of a lawn mower. So, that's amazing. And um doesn't seem to bother the puppy. She just marks her spot so it doesn't come back and hit that same area, I guess.

[00:10:10]But, uh she really doesn't bother her.

[00:10:13]It's quiet. Doesn't make any noise, you know. It just interests her a little bit. something new in the yard. But so, you know, that's a good thing.

[00:10:26]And you can see it just does the straight lines and then it goes around like a zero turn. And I have it set up there for multiple turn around so that uh it doesn't leave marks, but you can change that in the settings.

[00:10:40]And it does do a pretty good job at cutting. You can see behind it, no real mess. It does pretty good job. Um, nice even stripes.

[00:10:53]And here we got to check this thing out again. It just went over my area where I marked. Oh well, I guess it's okay.

[00:11:02]Don't have to feed it. So, pretty much it just uh, you know, it just runs hour on hour. But the only thing that I did find was it does a dandelion dance. If there are dandelions sticking up and you have the AI detection turned on, it will avoid them and mow around them. You can see how it turned around. There's a couple dandelions sticking up. And they are working on that. Um I did report it and they said that there, you know, the work in progress and that will be handled uh in the in the future. And there you can see it mowing around a couple of other things there too because I do have the AI detection turned on.

[00:11:45]And uh you know did turn out though 100% coverage in that first little piece and then it automatically when done goes back to the charging station and this feature just it works perfect every time. It's pretty amazing.

[00:12:00]Um even if it runs out of battery power in the middle of the mower and it goes back and charges and then goes back and finishes. This thing is uh it's just amazing how good it works. It's really uh I think this is one of the um best mowers out there right now.

[00:12:18]So there it is. It packs in, charges, and it does tell you that it's charging.

[00:12:22]And you know, it does talk to you, too.

[00:12:25]And you can monitor it on the app.

[00:12:29]And you can see when it goes into charging, it goes on standby. And tells you how much it mowed and you know what, how much left to finish. And so that works good. And then I did another map of the further front of the yard that included some trees and obstacles.

[00:12:48]And I just, you know, I was pretty amazed how how it does it works around them and it still gives you nice straight mowing um lines there. Does a nice job.

[00:13:03]And you can see on the app you can pretty much follow it. And time to go check it out again.

[00:13:10]Yep, it's mowing. Doing a good job. Mom and dad got more time to walk me. That's a good thing.

[00:13:19]So you can see once you put the the add the tree in as an obstacle, you don't have to. It will mow around it, but it's easier if you do it. Um goes faster and has less uh figuring out to do.

[00:13:35]So then I took another area of my lawn and big area here and I had to delete some other maps. That's the biggest limitation of this. It's limited to 1.25 25 acres. And that will depend on the size of the unit that you buy. But right now, I've got it doing a big overgrown field here.

[00:13:55]And you can see it's pretty much doing a perfect job.

[00:14:00]And it's just kind of like map it and forget it. Uh, and this is, you know, this is a pretty good size area, almost an acre. So, uh, that's about the max you're going to get out of it. And the app, well, that's another thing where you disconnect from it and then you go back to connect and depending on whether it's on 4G or Wi-Fi, the app is very slow to switch back and forth and update. So, you know, I would say that that will be updated in the future, but um that seemed to be the only problem at all that I had with this just uh connectivity at times. Sometimes it's perfect, uh sometimes it's not. So, And I do have good 4G coverage. You can see here too. So, it wasn't that.

[00:14:50]But there it goes. It disconnected again. But otherwise, this thing has been uh totally perfect. And that really it keeps working. You don't really need to update the app. This is more of a um just keep me amused type thing to watch it mow here and and see how far it's gone.

[00:15:09]But it will go back and connect after a short period of time. There it goes.

[00:15:13]So, it does kick back and forth and, you know, in and out, but you know, it's really not a bother if you don't monitor it every second. And dogs saying, "Come on, give me some more time. Quit playing with this thing." Cutting into my time now.

[00:15:32]So, there it is out there finishing up the big field. And it did have to stop to recharge. And you do have to make a path back to the charger for it, too.

[00:15:42]But that's all pretty much explained in the in instructions in the U manual.

[00:15:51]So you can see this that we'll do beautiful job on this is really garbage grass and weeds and everything else in the field there and then it'll head back and charge up and be ready for the next task. So this thing is once you get it set up this thing is completely troublefree I found. So then I set up a map for the other side of the yard here with a lot of obstacles and you know area flower beds that go around and stuff and um again the only thing was the dender lines that went around a couple times but otherwise it did a perfect job there too. You see the nice straight line stripes it gave me and you can you know you can modify them in the uh app also.

[00:16:36]And then when it gets done mowing, it just goes back and charges.

[00:16:40]And again, this thing is uh just amazing.

[00:16:45]And then I set up another little area over here.

[00:16:49]You can see in this one it's kind of, you know, mapping and working uh working right. I think it's because I'm close to it within the Bluetooth range.

[00:16:59]But again, it just uh goes back and forth.

[00:17:06]And then it will mow around areas that uh like that tree that I've got do not mow area around.

[00:17:17]And then I'll go back and clean up the little corner back there that I've got.

[00:17:21]It doesn't just it does not miss anything. It's just pretty amazing once it's in the map. Um you know it's going to be mode. So uh it's very very reliable. I found and again I just uh just amazes me what this thing can do and be nice if it did have the ability to um retain maps so you could save them and map over the 1.25 acres.

[00:17:53]That's the biggest limitation I find. I would definitely need at least four of these to do my yard and um not have to remap it every time.

[00:18:03]And I've used this for couple weeks now.

[00:18:06]I've run it over the lawn um you know every couple days just to uh make sure you know there aren't going to be any problems. Works perfect every time, charges every time. Uh no problem yet.

[00:18:19]And you know, I'll be doing some more updates, but I did have one problem here where it kind of got caught in my hops vine. I turned off the AI detection because I had a lot of dandelions over here. And once you do that and you don't have the area mapped out as a problem area to avoid, um, it will attempt to mow it.

[00:18:41]>> And just a little bit of, uh, grass wrapped around the wheel there. You know, nothing to clean. So then I set up a 100 square foot area out here in the field just to kind of show you. Let's say a goose fell out of the sky here and got in its way. This is with the AI detection turned on. You've got cameras and sensors um you know that see it and they're going to avoid it and mow around it.

[00:19:09]And if it starts moving it, uh it appears that they kind of back off and they stop for a second too. I did have one area. There it goes. It kind of moved away and stopped for a second waiting to see what was going to go on. But, you know, basically this thing uh it will not run over anything that's recognizable other than and it even avoids dandelions at this point. But so, it's pretty amazing. I mean, and this will avoid pets and it's uh wildlife friendly and it's just uh you know, they pretty much got everything figured into it. And as I said, they're constantly updating it to work out these couple of little little bugs. But, um, for the most part, it's just amazing.

[00:20:01]And then it started raining one time when I was mowing and the thing just uh went back to charge up and stopped until the rain was over and the sensor dried out. So, yes, it can replace a zeroturn for many. Um, if you got 1.25 or 100 acres, it's the perfect machine for you. Um, Net RTK replaces the RTK pole. If you have any kind of sensitivity to exhaust fumes or limited mobility, it would be a good one for too. I mean, it would mow just mow on its own.

[00:20:36]And then I went back and I cut the field with my zero turn here. And you can see there is a better a better quality of cut with a zeroturn.

[00:20:45]Um, and it's not the same quality because a zeroturn has vacuum created by the blades that pull it up when it cut it and this does not. So maybe someday they'll add that feature, but um, you know, otherwise basically it's it does a pretty decent cut. You can see um little bit of the lines are kind of where the tires run and stuff, but not bad. Uh a couple things lay over, but if you cut it a couple every couple days, doesn't matter. And very easy maintenance on it to uh keep it running. Just have to flop the blades every once in a while.

[00:21:27]>> So, you know, my zero turn that cost a lot to upkeep with all the oil changes and fluid changes and stuff like that. and, you know, constantly monitoring tire pressures and stuff. And this thing is just so maintenance-free and um from my experience so far, it it works perfect.

[00:21:45]Uh haven't had any real problems with it. So, we'll see. I'm going to be doing another couple videos with it. And sometimes the app works perfect. You can see the little mower there moving and stuff. Sometimes it freezes up a little bit, but that's really nothing. And that's just uh kind of if you're going to try to watch it every second that matters, but to me it doesn't really matter cuz I just let it go and you don't have to watch it. And every time it needs a charge, it just goes home and charges. So, I just wanted to um you know, just let you know what I thought about this machine.
