Low pressure systems bring unsettled weather with rain, showers, and strong winds, as demonstrated by the Met Office forecast for June 6, 2026, which showed a deep low pressure area causing unseasonably strong winds (gusting 50-55 mph) and rain across southern England and Wales, while Scotland experienced clearer conditions.

06/06/2026 - Wet and windy - Afternoon Weather Forecast - Met Office WeatherAjouté :
Hi there. This time last week, temperatures were over 30° C in some spots, but the late May heat wave is a distant memory now for many. And if we have a look at the bigger picture from space, we can see an area of cloud approaching for tomorrow. This one here.
And this swirl of cloud here is associated with a quite a deep area of low pressure for the time of year. And those closely packed isobars are really bringing some quite unseasonably strong winds to the southwest of England and along the south coast this morning. But we've also got quite a bit of rain as the radar shows. So it's been a wet start to Saturday as well for many of us and whilst there will be some dry interludes out there through the course of this afternoon. We'll continue to see outbreaks of rain or showers for many.
Now it won't be raining the entire day.
There will be some dry interludes and perhaps even a few glimmers of sunshine for some. Probably the best of the weather generally speaking across parts of Scotland through the course of this afternoon. Some longer spells of rain though pushing in across more southern parts of Wales and the south of England as well. But generally a fairly unsettled picture wherever you are this afternoon and therefore feeling quite cool for the time of year as well. Highs of 16 to 18 degrees generally speaking possibly reaching 19 or 20 perhaps across some central parts of England and um parts of Wales as we go into this afternoon if we see any sunshine. But let's just focus in on the winds through the course of this afternoon. We do have a yellow wind warning in place and we will see some pretty unseasonably strong winds and also quite large waves coming in. So parts of Cornwall and Devon could see some impacts. Certainly take note if you are um traveling through the course of this afternoon. Now winds could gust 50 perhaps even 55 miles per hour as we go through the course of this afternoon and into this evening. The strongest winds transferring their way eastward.
So into parts of Sussex and Kent by this evening as well. So as I say the potential is there for some small branches and twigs etc to come down off uh trees and there could well be some localized disruption in places too. But further north, the winds will be quite a bit lighter and that could just allow one or two heavy showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, this evening across parts of central Britain.
Otherwise, as we go through the course of the night, generally it will start to turn a little bit drier. There will be some showers around, but by the end of the night, most of the showery rain confined to the northeast of Scotland with perhaps some longer and heavier spells of rain returning to Northern Ireland. Here it will stay quite breezy.
The winds coming in from a fairly mild southwestly direction through the course of tonight. So temperatures aren't going to fall away too far. Generally speaking, they'll hold up into double figures. We might just dip into the high single figures further east. And it's here where we'll actually hold on to some clearer skies. So a bright start to the day uh for eastern parts of Scotland and eastern England on Sunday. Some early morning sunshine. It will turn a little bit hazier as we go into the afternoon, but it should stay largely dry and bright for many. Further north and west though, some spells of rain at times, occasionally heavy, particularly for northern or western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland where we could see some really quite intense bursts of rain at times as well and associated with quite a brisk southerntherly to southwesterly wind here. It's not going to feel that wonderful. Some rain pushing into parts of northern England, parts of Wales as well. So quite a wet picture for um the far northwest of Wales and Cumbria, for example, as we go into the afternoon.
but holding on to some hazy sunshine in the east and the southeast of England.
And here temperatures could rise possibly as high as 24 degrees Celsius.
So a much warmer day for many compared to on Saturday. And certainly if you have some sunshine, it should feel fairly pleasant. Now through Sunday evening, the rain continues to make its way quite erratically and slowly southeastwards into more of England and Wales as we go towards uh Monday morning. So quite a wet picture for some. The heaviest rain tend to be over the higher grounds of Cumbria, southwest Scotland as well with some clearer, more showery conditions following to the far northwest of Scotland. But it does mean that Monday is going to be a pretty wet day for many parts of England and Wales.
The rain gradually easing from the northwest later. Sunny spells and showers though following on from the north and the west and quite blustery winds as well. So the potential for um once again some pretty heavy downpours and thunderstorms and temperatures look at these only 15 or 16 degrees for some places. So, a little bit below par for the time of year and feeling on the cool side.
