Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Bot Brawl. We are Canada's largest fighting robot organization. Two robots enter our arena, but only one leaves. Robots use a variety of weapons to try and disable each other, including rotating blades like the green robot Instigator has.
>> Red team.
>> And we are ready to go. Instigator, are you ready? Instigator in the red corner is ready. Hoju in the white corner is ready.
>> Three, two, one, fight.
>> Fire robots fight.
That's a pin from Hoju to get things started. Hoju does not have an active weapon, so it's going to be using its ability to pin. Three, two, one, release.
And it's going to try and stop that big blade on the front of Instigator.
Instigator a multi-time champion at Bot Brawl.
And that spinning drum on the front more than capable of sending robots flying to the ceiling.
And we're not counting that as a pin since Instigator's free to move. Manages a nice little maneuver trying to get to the sides of Hoju and away from that huge metal wedge on the front designed to deflect blows.
Release.
Robots only allowed to pin for up to 10 seconds at a time.
This fight has been all hoju so far.
Instigator really hasn't been able to get a bite.
Oju is just so low to the ground. And instigator has a pair of wedges on the front. manages to bite on the top of Hoju as it rode up Hoju's sides.

That weapon on the front instigator spins fast enough that it can actually maneuver with the gyroscopes to get back on its feet.
>> Release.
That's another pin from Hoju.
Robots are graded on damage, aggression, and control. So Hoju trying to show control to the judges here by pinning the opponent.

>> And Instigator needs to maneuver better to avoid these. Uh-oh. 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 one. Your winner is Hoju.

Not the most impressive showing from Instigator in its first time back in a while, but it's not broken.
And the weapon clearly spinning hard enough to do some damage.
>> Over in our Subo box, we have another pair of robots getting ready. Kota Dunshshire taking on Bort.
Cones, you should be loading in.
>> So, these are the biggest robots we've got here today. Our 30 lb sumo class.
>> They don't have as destructive weapons.
They focus on shoving each other off of the arena. So, the way they win these matches is the first robot to push the other robot off three times wins. Each robot with three lives.
So, in the white we have Kai and Cones of Dunshshire. Cones, are you ready?
Cones is ready. And Bort in the silver.
Are you ready? Bort, the third coming is ready. We're going to fight in three, two, one. Sumo.
B just about goes out there but maneuvers back on. Gets the upper hand on Cones and Bort takes the first match.
Robot set fighting in three 2 1 sumo and I think Cohen's forks have gone out.
Bour finishes it off.
>> So you might be wondering why is there a big metal pole in the middle? Maybe you figured it out by now. It's to make the robots have to maneuver a little bit more.
Otherwise, they just run right at each other and it would be like a burnout contest. This way, they actually have to maneuver.
>> Robots set.
>> 3 2 1 sumo B with a better position with its back to the pole, but Cones is PROBABLY FURTHER UNDERNEATH AND turns Bort out.
So sumo is kind of a contest of who can get lower to the ground, who can lift the other robots wheels off the ground.
Walt these robots with really long forks. We're set.
Three, two, one, sumo.
Great driving by cones. We've got some smoke coming out of port.
>> There was smoke coming out of the back right of port.
I'm sure it's >> it could have just been the wheels on the on the wood. Yeah.
>> Might have been like up against the fork.
>> So, we're tied at two, right? We're all tied at two here.
So, this will determine our winner.
Robots ready. Three, two, one, fight.
Cones almost went out, but managed to get back in and goes out. One of the forks on Cona Dunshshire dug into the arena and got it stuck and Bort took advantage of that. Let's hear it for our winner, Bort. The third coming.
Regginald McGravity and TBD. You guys are due up in the box.
>> After that, we're going to do Hoju versus A Pudding and Homer versus the Healers. So, Homer and the Healers, you guys can uh load into the box.
And Dan, you should be standing by with Hoju as well.

Both of these robots come from a company known as Finger Tech Robotics.

>> Both of them have been modified in various ways or otherwise upgraded.
>> The robot in the white corner's case has been upgraded with packing tape >> or masking tape. I'm not sure which that is.
Red team, are you ready?
>> In the red corner, we have Reginald McGravity, are you ready?
>> White team, are you ready?
>> And TBD in the white corner is ready.
>> Three, two, one, fight.
This is going to be a duel of who can flip the other one over and more than the other. And that's two good flips for TBD to get started.
Generic spinner last week did a or pardon me uh Reginald McGravity last week week did a number on a couple of our stronger robots. showing off some good driving here again today. But TBD responding in kind with another flip.
>> Good chaining together here from Jer from from uh Reginald McGravity.
So the purple one is Reginald McGravity just so everybody is clear.
Oh, a clamp there from Reginald.
>> We're going to request a release in three, two, one, release.
So, both of these robots excel in dealing with robots with spinning weapons cuz they are built to deflect blows. Sometimes they wind up against each other in the tournament and it turns into a driving duel and you get one of these robots in just the right position, it might not be able to get out of it.
Don't worry, we got lots of robots with spinning weapons here as well.
But the tanks have to fight each other sometimes. And that's what we are witnessing. A driving duel between two tanks.
>> One minute remaining.
>> Another clamp from Reginald McGravity.
>> Pardon me. TBD.
>> I don't know. One of them clamped the other one.
That's some good shoving there from Reginald McGravity and a pin.
Two one. It's not. We're good.
TVD manages to self-right.
>> Don't worry, now that they've fought each other today, they don't have to fight each other again.

>> The judges are going to have fun judging that one.
Robots are graded on damage. We ain't have a lot of that that match.
Aggression and control. We definitely saw some aggression and control from both robots.
Your winner by split decision is REGINALD MCGRAVITY by a single over to the sub arena. We've got another four robots that are to fight at the same time here.
>> Are all of the healers ready?
>> A little bit further back cuz sometimes they hit the >> Homer, are you ready? Then we are going to sumo in three, two, one, sumo.
So, in order to win, Homer, the one with the boxing glove, has to take out two of those healers. There's one.
There goes the other one.
Homer goes out, but Homer gets the point since it took two/3 of the opponent out.
>> So, those three robots combined weigh the weigh the weight limit. So, 30 lb total in our 30 lb sumo category.
10 lb each.

Wow. Homer takes out two of the healers at once. And it's two to nothing for Homer.

Generic Spinner still has another fight today, so he's going to head back to the pits and try to get that thing fixed up.

Homer found a little angle to take a peek. The spatula retreats behind and Homer digging right into the ground with those forks.
The spatula is locked around that pole.
It gets shoved out. The spatula had its back to the pole. That slot in the back of the the spatula fits around the pole, but he can't really maneuver from that position too well.

Man, Homer looks unbeatable today.
>> Unlike last week where I just lost >> I don't think Homer's lost the match yet.

I don't No, I have a feeling we're going to see the spatula come back with a bunch of forks on it at some point. The way this is looking. No. Okay.

Even when it doesn't get under, Homer still locks up the spatula and hits it out. Let's hear it for Homer into Spatula.

Loading into the box, we have Hoju up against a pudding.
both these robots built by experienced builders. A putting in the white corner last year. It wasn't an experienced robot. one of the worst robots in the category almost, but it persevered, came back and reiterated week after week last fall and managed to put together one of the most competitive robots in the category. The opponent Hoju we've already seen once today. It is a brick on wheels and it is taken off its forks to try to avoid some of the damage from a pudding's blade.
>> Red team, are you ready?
White team, are you ready?
>> Two, one, fight.
>> We have a pudding starting backwards. I don't know what the idea is there, but I think they want to get out far enough to start up their weapon. And they do. Po's right on them, though. making sure that he's not making sure that he wants to position himself so that he can push that weapon into the wall.
Hog is doing a great job lining up.
A pudding hasn't been able to hit anything other than the front of homer.
and the wall.
He's trying to get away so he can spin up and then get a good position. But Ho's right on him, not letting him.
That's the best hit so far. And still, I think it was mostly in Homer's favor.
Although the edge of Homer has a tiny tiny bent outwards now.
A putting spinning a little slower. Not sure if they're trying to conserve space and and get it up. There it is.
Homer doing a great job keeping around the backside of them so that the weapon doesn't hit him. He wants to get him pinned up against the wall just like that.
>> Pin >> three. Oh, he breaks the pin. And a pudding is very quiet now.
Looks like a pudding's weapon was disabled after that last hit.
>> That trick of driving the weapon into the wall worked out for Homer.
And that's a No, it's not.

Not sure what a pudding can do here for the next 40 seconds. You can maybe maybe use the weapon to get underneath the the backside of Homer, but Homer did not uh was always lined up.
>> That's that's Ho. That's Ho Jr.
>> And Hoju's right on there with the weapon right at the front of him just like before. But now >> all there is to do is pin.

>> And this match goes to the judges.
So the judges are reviewing that match.
There's three categories that the robots need to excel at in order to get uh favor from the judges. That is uh control. So how much the robot was dictating the flow of the match, aggression, how much on top of the opponent they did. they were uh who was doing most of the uh well aggression, who who was hitting the other one the most, who was keeping engaged, and who wasn't running away. And then the last one would be damage, which uh is, you know, two robots go in, does one of them lose functionality? Was it because of the other robot?
Damage has the largest weight to it as it is a fighting robot competition, not a driving robot competition.
And the judges are in. Hoju wins.

I don't know.
>> Keeping things moving here. Who's up next? Ralph and Dispatchula should be in the sumo box. Ralph and Dispatchula.

That's the other thing I can do.
>> Loading into the suma box. Now we've got Ralph and Dispatcha. We've already seen Dispatchula earlier today. It's got that big scoop. Ralph has lifting forks on it and they're attached to a pneumatic cylinder >> and it's more than capable of sending robots up flying upwards.
>> In fact, it's the one of the biggest reasons we have such tall walls on the sumo arena.
>> So, we're going to see if Ralph is able to flip the spatula right up and over.
That noise you hear is the air compressor on Ralph Village.
You can see it is a dangerous robot.

The spatula after all that managed to get behind Ralph.

And there is Ralph getting it done with just some plain old good driving.

The floor of this sum arena starting to get chewed up by the forks of all the robots. There's lots of little divots and dents that can make it hard. You have to maneuver your forks around them or they could get stuck.
Ralph slips in with its back TO THE POLE AND PUSHES OUT THE SPATULA. Your winner is Ralph.

Robots geometry is not lining up too well. Left shoe got that hit off of that though. And a piece of the armor coming off. That's the wheelguard on Crash Out.

A nice big gouge in our fresh floor.
Crash out is struggling to get off of its own wedglet there. Left shoe comes in and takes a free hit.
Crash out needs to get that wedgelet unstuck. It can barely move.

That bent fork, that bent wedge on the front of Crash Out is causing so many problems for it.
If I'm left shoe, I'm trying to avoid hitting that if I can.
That was a hit to the side of the weapon. Both robots still fully functioningish.
Depends how you define functioning for Crash Out. Left shoe looks good though.

Once Crash Out's orange wedge got stuck in that downwards position, that was it.
I don't know if there was a piece of debris that got lodged in there or if the frame itself got bent and stopped it from rotating around, but that cost Crash out the fight for sure.
All right, we've got some sumobots ready to go.

Well, I guess I guess they weren't ready. They said they were ready, but they weren't >> as Bort gets the first point.
>> All right. Now, I know it's complicated driving robots, but I recommend starting by going forwards.

All right. Okay, Whamo can driveway Hero. Much better start this time.
JUST ABOUT HAD BORT LINED UP, BUT Bort turned at the last second.
And that's the strategy that Driveway Hero and Whaman need to use. One of them needs to bait Bort out so the other one can come in from the side.
Each one of Whaman and Driveway Hero only weigh 12 lbs each. So, they really have to work as a team.
It's two to nothing for Bort. Robot set fighting in three 2 1. Sumo goes the ammo cannon. Bort with the win.

A pudding and instigator. You should be loading in a pudding and instigator.
>> We're also going to be looking for Reginald McGravity and generic spinner.

Well, hey, you know what? Fight.
>> Jeez. I think driveway Hero actually came out before Ammo can landed. You guys can fight again while we wait for We've got Instigator. We are looking for a pudding. You got two minutes.
A pudding. You've got 1 minute and 45 seconds.

We could also just put uh we could just go right to the cones of Dunshshire match and leave Whamo Can and Driveway Hero in there.

So, the driver of a pudding had to do a receiver swap since he only has one controller here today. That was the delay.
This is going to be a good match. A horizontal versus a drum is one of the alltime classic archetype matchups for fighting robots.
>> Red team, are you ready?
In the red corner, we have a pudding.
>> In the white corner, we have Instigator.
>> Three, two, one, fight.
Fire robots fight and a putting trying to avoid a weapon to weapon impact it looks like and get to the sides of instigator. The the vertical spitting weapon on Instigator makes it hard for it to turn.
Well, the weapons all the way up to speed. Huge opening hit.
Bolt still working. Nice to see good driving there by Instigator. found a little gap as a pudding turned away after a deflection. A pudding's upside down.
Could be good for Instigator if it can still move, which I don't know if it can.
I think one side drive on Instigator is struggling. No, it's fine. A pudding.
Looks like the screws on the top of a pudding got hung up in one of the ruts in the arena floor, but it's back on its feet now. And we got a weapon of weapon impact now.
Instigators, the one upside down. And a nice followup there from a pudding and Instigator maneuvers itself right up the side of the wall. That was a full force impact from a pudding. And is that weapon on Instigator down?
Oh, it goes still going.

Cones make short work of the pair.
Cones has been getting better and better at detecting where that pole is. It's proprioception >> and awareness of where the pole is and how to maneuver around it seems to improve every time Kai gets on the sticks.

So, I've watched a bunch of generic spinners fight so far, and I think in every single fight, it has ended up in this orientation.
It can definitely deal a punch just as long as it's not on its back in that awkward position. It's It's a strong robot.

Well, Hoju wasn't too happy. He thought he was fighting a different robot before this match, but that configuration seems to be doing a pretty good job on Generic Spinner's Blade.
