Pensions, once considered reliable retirement income, have become increasingly rare and less secure in modern times, as corporations have frequently eliminated pension plans and replaced them with 401ks, which may not provide the same guaranteed income security.

Building Fences and Talking PensionsAdded:
What's going on, guys?
I really don't have anything new to say today. I'm just checking in. I haven't been on here in a while. Just letting everybody know I'm still live, still kicking.
I'm building a horse fence.
Something I've needed to do for over two years, ever since we moved over to this side of the property.
I'm just running a hot wire. Those horses, it don't take much to keep them in. They're pretty much just big dogs.
I've just had a little temporary enclosure about maybe two acres. Now we're We'll probably have about five acres after I get this done.
It's about to get interesting because I'm standing in water right now and I'm going to try to dig a hole. So, it's going to fill up with water as fast as I can dig it, I'm sure. But, this is the only day it hasn't rained in about a week. And the forecast is showing nothing but rain for about the next 10 days. So, if I'm going to get it done, it's going to be today.
I can't believe how much traffic comes down this country road.
I mean, art, you don't even hear the traffic from where the house and the cabin sits, but it's like a freaking highway out here.
Jeez Louise.
I'm not trying to sell you anything or anything, but this old Vaver post hole digger has been a lifesaver. It's I don't know what it was, like 150 bucks.
I bought it myself. I But I tell you what, that first hole I dug with it, it paid for itself in my opinion.
I bought it and then it sat in the pole barn for probably over two years and then I finally got it out.
Fired right up on the first pull. I couldn't believe it.
And it has every time.
But I just dunked the switch in water.
So we'll see if it'll start now.
Damn it.
Yeah.
Heat.
mud. Nothing but mud. At least it's not filling up with water yet. I can't believe that.
Oh, this is the only bad thing. It that mud just sticks to it and then you got to peel it all off to pull the dirt out of there.
I don't want to set it in the mud again or the water.
Got to knock that mud off so I can pull more mud out of the hole, man.
Oh, she filling up with water.
You know, I was watching a YouTube video yesterday in the pole barn while I was doing some stuff in there and I was watching one of those. It was a reaction video and it was a young guy reacting to a guy probably my age and he was talking about pensions.
This guy didn't have a pension. I I don't think there's many folks my age that have pensions anymore. Now, my parents' age, there was a lot of people that retired with pensions back in the day, but this kid was just He's like, I can you imagine having a pension that I mean, I can't even imagine it now, but I had one at one time.
And then the big corporation I was working for decided to do away with it. I can't even remember when that was. I early 2000s I think I think George W was in office so it was somewhere early 2000s and they told us how great these 401ks were. Well we had a 401k we had both. We had 401k where we could save money and then we had also a pension.
Well, they the line they give us was that they're going to put what they had been putting into our pension, they're going to put into our 401k. So, that 401k is just going to grow and grow and grow.
Well, I think they did that one time.
Of course, of of course they were lying.
I mean, they weren't I think they did it one time. Maybe one or two other times they put a little bit in there, but it wasn't like what they were had been putting into our pension plan.
So, the dream ended that day that they took the pension away because I was on pace to have a million dollars in savings and a pension. So, I was going to be looking great. I was thinking about since I was going to have the pension plus social security and I was going to have all this money sitting here in my 401k, I was thinking I'd probably buy a vacation home and then just live off the pension and social security.
But of course, that never happened.
If you're new here, my name is Troy. I retired last fall at the age of 58 with 500k.
I retired and now I'm working harder than I ever have.
Mud break.
So yeah, this young guy's freaking out about like I like can't imagine what a pinion would be like. And of course I can't either now, but it got me thinking about pensions and when I was doing my research getting ready to retire and watching all these videos and everything and that was one thing.
If the creator said they had a pension, I left. I don't want to hear about it. I don't want to hear about your pension.
I'm happy for you. I mean, that's freaking awesome if people still have a pension, but to me, that's just a thing of the past. And I don't have one, so it's not what I want to hear about.
And I don't I'm not saying I don't mind hearing about it in the comments, but I'm not going to go out and watch somebody talk about their pension.
In fact, why don't you, if you got a pinchion, why don't you comment down below because I'd like to see how many people have them.
Comment if you have one and what age you retired because I'm guessing there's not that many of you anymore that have a pension.
And even when you do have one, they're not safe. I mean, that corporation can take it away. I mean, I've seen my dad's retired from Peabody Coal Company.
They've tried to take away the pension, their health insurance. So, I mean, so you might think everything's looking good, but I mean, you never know when they're going to try to put the screws to you.
Think that's deep enough.
I'm in the swamp. Digging holes in the swamp.
I think this is number six post I've put in.
This is a storebought post here. That's why I can pick it up. Most of the others were uh telephone poles, electric poles that they were replacing them down this road and we went out there and hollered at them. Say, "Hey, we'll take those."
Can't tell which side's up or down.
Here comes the water.
What a mess.
So, don't take offense. I I didn't mean to offend anybody. I don't I mean, I'm happy. Like I said, I'm happy you have a pension. I'm just I have no interest in watching any of these retirement people talk about pensions because I don't have one and I'll never have one.
Get this thing out of the water. Jeez.
So, I know some people were asking about my spending. So, I've been tracking my spending for May.
I think I've tracked it all. I don't know.
I've never been very good at that. It's like I I start and then I get bored with it. I mean, it's boring stuff. I don't It's not like I'm doing anything crazy. I mean, I haven't even traveled or anything for a while, so it's not like I'm spending anything special.
Just utilities and things like that.
But I am I'm keeping track and I'll do an update video and maybe do my monthly update along with my spending.
Sometimes I think them critters just ain't worth it.
That's actually a pretty straight row.
You know, one good thing about how wet it is is these tost have been going right in the ground.
Now, the plan was to use the tractor bucket to drive these things in. But to do that, I need somebody to hold the post or drive the tractor.
And as you can see, I'm out here once again, me, myself, and I.
That's okay though cuz they're going in pretty easy.
You might wonder why I'm not running the fence through the woods or up against the woods, but I'm leaving enough space to bush hog on the outside of the fence.
I'm hoping that'll keep the weeds from getting up into the electric fence.
We shall see. And two fatties will have enough anyhow. They don't need the whole extra half acre I could gain by running a fence through the woods or up against the woods.
Had to come up here and get some more tost.
There's a bunch of snakes under here.
Where'd they go?
Oh, there's a big old spider.
There they are.
Little fellas.
There was a bigger one went this way. I don't see it now.
I'm not a big snake fan, but as long as they ain't poisonous, I don't mind them.
I don't not sure what those are.
They like hanging out under them tosts though.
That augur come with a 6 in. That's what I was using there. And then it come with the 8 in. That's what I was using for those electric poles.
Come with the extensions. I think a couple of those. Pretty nice. I know a lot of people don't like the Vivore stuff, but I've never had a issue with any of the stuff. I mean, knock on wood, but I've got tools, I got workbenches, I got all kinds of Vivore crap and never had the first issue with it.
Straight as a crooked era.
Well, guys, I'm going to hop off here. I got about I don't know 10 more posts to pound and it's getting to be evening time. I probably won't have time to put the clips on and run the wire. So guess I'll be doing that between between the rains tomorrow.
So thanks for checking in on me. We'll see you later.
