Harting’s comparison exposes the arbitrary nature of pharmaceutical borders, where medical necessity is often dictated more by bureaucracy than by science. It is a sobering reminder that patient autonomy is frequently a casualty of inconsistent national regulations.

This was not what I expected from Canada...Added:
Is there enough words in the English language to describe this beautiful country? No, there's not. That's why they use two. This is Canada from what I'm being told. They also speak French here. And uh it makes sense once you start moving around a little bit. You do need two languages. Folks, I have been told anonymously that Walmart is an amazing pharmacy here in Canada. It's a real Canadian pharmacy. It's beloved and it is an authentic experience. And so many Canadians have told me to come to Walmart here. So, I did the unthinkable.
I hopped into my 2012 Honda Civic and drove like three and a half hours to the Canadian border where I was bered by the Canadian Border Patrol for like 15 minutes. It was actually very annoying.
I don't know why they did that, but that's okay. I'm a guest here, so I'm willing to take a little bit of a little bit of lumps, I guess. So, we have several objectives here today. I need to go into this very fine, legitimate, authentic Canadian pharmacy and figure out what they sell here without a prescription that we don't have in the US. I also want to take a look at their food. And I'm interested to know if they serve hot food here at uh Walmart in Canada and what kind of food they serve.
Very interested to see that as well. And then I actually have to buy something for myself because my tummy hurts. In any event, this is going to be an amazing adventure. I love Canada so much, man. And these Ontario license plates are really spectacular.
So, let's go see what we can find.
Wow.
So exciting.
Am I in Canada? Am I in Canada? There's like a million Canadian flags everywhere. So, it's very similar, but like cooler. A Canadian dollar is worth about $75 US cents or whatever. So I mean everything is priced similar to the US whenever you make that conversion. At least I think so. So this iron is4 Canadian. It' be like $30, right? I mean that's pretty normal I think. Dozen eggies for four Canadian. So that's like $3. I feel like that's pretty normal nowadays. Jeppe pizza.
What? 7 Canadian dollars. Got that like halfade pizza there. I don't know.
Pretty normal stuff. just different brands, right? And actually, a lot of them are the same. All right, I found the pharmacy section. It's way smaller than what we have in the US, but they have a lot of more interesting medications because they have different laws up here. Here's the one I was looking for my tummy. This is fotedine 20 mg. This is way more expensive up here in Canada. 9 Canadian dollars for 10 tablets. Oh my gosh, you can get like 30 tablets for like $3 in the US, but I'm going to get this here today. This is interesting. Eno effervescent powder.
This is like our peacot. This is sodium citrate, I believe. Yeah, sodium citrate. This helps with stomach acid.
Interesting. And of course, polysporin.
This is like the best thing you can get in Canada because it has lidocaine in it. Ours does not really have lidocaine in it. Our polyphorin only has I believe polymixen and neomyosin, but there's also has gramidy in it as well. It's a anti-infective.
I love this product. This one's really interesting. Advil 12hour. We do not have this. This is extended release ibuprofen 600 mgram tablet. We only have the 200 mgram tablets in the US and we definitely do not have extended release.
Another interesting one, Desleradine.
This requires a prescription in the US.
The Advil 12-hour, you can't even get that with the prescription. At least I don't think so. But does lauratine? You need a prescription. This is a second generation anti-histamine. It's similar to lauratodine and satyazine. They're both second generation. I don't see any lauratine here. They only have Oh, wait.
Here it is. Yeah. So, they have loratine as well. Very similar molecules. They block histamine. Great for all day allergy relief. And look, their benadryil package looks different. Dyen hydramine 25 mg.
Everyone is confused by our huge package sizes in the US, but here's an acetaminophen and this is what four 400 tablets. So, we're not the only country that has like really large package sizes. Most other countries limit acetaminophen to like a quantity of like 12 or something like that because taking large amounts can cause liver damage.
Methylarbamol is another medication that we cannot get in the US. here they have tons of different products combined with ibuprofen with acetaminophen and a lot of people think that we don't sell methylarbamol because like there's a potential for abuse I don't think that's why when you look at the directions for methyl carbamol it's very confusing and I think that's why we don't sell in the US in the US we have to have restrictions to allow somebody like the general public can use it correctly and methamo is really weird it's like I'll put the directions on the screen here, but it's not like just one pill a day or something like that. Here, I've popped one open here. It's two tablets every 6 hours for 2 to 3 days and then take one tablet every 4 hours.
So, that can be very confusing. I think that's why we don't sell it without a prescription in the US. Ora gel, the generic equivalent, it's 5.77 here at Walmart in Canada. It's $1.25 at the in Dollar Tree in the US, but ouries charge like $89 for this. This is benzicaine 20%. This is a great numbing gel in the mouth and it stops that pain signal from going back to the brain. This is a great product. Well, I got kicked out of a Canadian Walmart, but it's okay because we got the goods. I uh I take this regularly and I realized that I only brought one pill and I used it last night in my hotel. So, I needed to get some more. So, thank you Canada for providing fodin for me. Oh, these look way different.
Take a look at these weird looking guys.
I was expecting I thought that these were going to be like the same as what we have in America, but no, they're like these weird this weird shape. Here, I'll show you a little bit better here. Take a look at that. Like, what's the point?
Gez, it's like a Lannis Morset jagged little pill. Anyway, I need to reduce my stomach acid. So, this is a histamine 2 blocker.
The pill was way smaller in the US. I'll try to find a picture of ours. But then again, I've actually never bought brand name Pepsid before, so I have no idea what brand name Pepsid even looks like in the US.
Dude, I'm just going to take one minute to complain about filming in public. I obviously mean no harm. I take p I never take video of people's faces. I block it out if I can. And I know other people give us a bad reputation, but man, it's just so frustrating when I'm trying to educate people here. And some like 90-year-old Canadian worker at Walmart was like, "Can I help you with anything?
Been down this road a million times."
And I'm like, "Yeah, I'm just comparing the the medications to here in the US."
And she goes, "Well, I don't know if you're allowed to be doing that." And I was like, "The filming?" She's like, "Yeah." And I was, you know, I I never argue with them. I just say, "Okay, well, I'll turn it off if you're uncomfortable." And that's what I did.
Anyway, I got an anonymous tip that there's another store that may be worth going to. So, I'm going to try to see if I can find it here. Now, this is what Canada looks like, by the way.
Just some shops along the road. Nothing too spectacular.
Well, at the vice of a Canadian, I came to this uh convenience store to perhaps find some sketchy gas station pills.
Alas, there were none. But I did find this.
No idea what it is, but I'm gonna at least try it. A sugar waffle. A heavens to Betsy. This looks pretty good. And as I was purchasing this and coming back to my car, I noticed something on my receipt from the medication I bought at Walmart. They charge 13% sales tax on medication.
In the US, we don't charge tax on medication at all. At least I don't think so. I know in Pennsylvania we don't. What the heck? It's very brittle.
So that's weird. I don't like that. I don't think people should pay tax on medication.
H how do I describe this?
Well, very brittle.
Very difficult to eat.
I don't know.
So, the sugar very much is like a funnel cake sugar. It's just powdered sugar.
But the actual like waffle, air quotes, itself, I don't know. I'm struggling to describe this. It's pretty tasteless. You know what? Even tastes like exactly a fortune cookie. This is a fortune cookie with uh powdered sugar on it. It's not bad. Oh, that's pretty cool.
So, I got a piece of Canadian culture here today. I had a sugar waffle. I had poutine at A&W. And I uh got scolded by an old lady in Walmart. I think I'm doing pretty good. I might as well be half Canadian. Well, this was a very exciting day. I love going to see medications. I love getting kicked out of Walmarts. It's so much fun, dude. And I got scolded, like interrogated crossing the border. But no, I I'm happy to bring this to you guys. I hope you really enjoyed learning about the Canadian Walmart and Canadian pharmacy.
And stick around.
