Benefits and Importance of Blood Donation
Added:Five reason why you should be doing this noble act of blood donation. Because every 1 second one requires blood in India.
More than 10,000 people die for not getting blood in time.
Then there is no replacement for blood.
And only 1% people donate blood in India.
And the last one and the fifth one is more than 85% of youngsters between 18 to 25 years are not not donating blood in India. Friends, today is June 14th, World Blood Donor Day. A day celebrated to appreciate and honor voluntary blood donors. That is selfless or without expecting anything in return donating blood. This year's theme is one drop of humanity.
Donate blood and saves lives.
So, this day is commemorated to celebrate uh the scientist or the pathologist and immunologist who discovered blood groups and told about blood donation. That is Karl Landsteiner.
So, this day we appreciate and honor blood donors who are donating. So, my appreciation also goes out to all these donors. They are regularly donating and saving lives.
Friends, in my 30 years of experience as a pathologist, half of the time I have also worked as a blood bank officer because blood banking or uh immunohematology is part of pathology. And 50% of my health-related talks are also on blood donation. So, during this I have seen and given lot of advice to people and motivated people.
And today when I woke up, social media did not remind me about this June 14th and Blood Donor Day. But my humble newspaper Udayavani and Times of India carried articles.
So, because of that I I suddenly remembered, "Oh, I have to tell something about this." And Times of India also carried an article where in North Karnataka there are people who have donated more than 100 times. And these people, many of them started donating blood after a family tragedy or where they had to run around to get blood for their family member. Friends, you do not wait, especially the youngsters. Start today.
It's not late. You can go visit a nearest blood bank. You can enroll the name in donor registry and start today and start saving lives. Just like them, you can also end up donating more than 100, 200 times. For people of 18 to uh 55 to 60 years, healthy, both genders can donate. Other criteria they will tell you in blood bank, so you visit your blood bank. You must be needing asking me who needs blood. There are a lot of people who are needing blood, cancer patients during surgeries and chemotherapy and radiotherapy, large surgeries, major surgeries, road traffic accidents, and malaria, dengue, pregnancy, and the uh the people with hemophilia and thalassemia, like that. They regularly need blood. So, there is always a shortage for blood and this summer we had acute shortage of blood. So, please donate, start today and tell me if you have donated. Please uh the message me and tell me if you're already donating, my appreciation goes out to you.
You may have some misconceptions about uh blood donations. You may say, uh may I feel weak after donation? Will I get harmed after blood donation? What is the use for me? What is the benefit?
Friends, blood donation is a very safe process.
Go to a big hospital and a registered blood bank. All the safety precautions are taken. You will not get any diseases or any harm effects while donating blood. And it takes a short while, on 5 minutes to draw blood. Total process may take about 20 minutes because that takes registration, history taking, examination by a doctor, and drawing the blood, and the rest, and the refreshments. So, what is the benefit for you? So, you may feel very happy after donating blood. First of all, you are checked every now and then, every 3-4 months, your health is at check. All the tests are done. So, you are free of many diseases. You will find out that.
Plus, the more than anything is you will have the satisfaction of helping somebody in need. One unit of blood may save three to five lives because nowadays in blood bank all the parts are separated, RBCs, white blood, plasma, platelets. So, five people may end up using your blood. So, you will have the satisfaction of saving their lives. Plus, you will get some Some of the hospitals render health benefits for these regular donors. They have some free health checkup, and sometimes in their family or somebody needs blood, that time they will give without asking for replacement. Plus, all this blood which is collected gets replaced within 24 hours. You don't have to worry. You just have to go on drinking little more water, and you can do your regular work.
