Picking out the Truths from the Lies
Added:Hey, how's it going? Welcome back to the channel. Today's puzzle, this one is an interesting one. It's um it's it uses a a thought process that we've done be well in the past. We don't do it very often, but it's like the the two truths and one lie type of genre of puzzle. Uh, so again, we haven't done one of these in a long time, but this one looked really interesting because it also uses um uh quads as the the lying vehicle, if you will. So, thought we'd give it a look, see what we can figure out. I don't think it was supposed to be super difficult, was it? Uh, well, actually, it's listed as a three star. Um, so maybe it is a little bit difficult.
We're going to find that out, though.
So, uh, let's dive into this one. Let's see what what everything's going on here, and then we'll get into this all.
So, it came out fairly recently, too.
So, it's it's not a set uh difficulty yet. So, anyway, it's called Two Truths and a Quibble by Zombie Hunter. And we've got normal Sudoku. So, every row, column, and 3x3 box will contain the digits 1 through nine once each. And we've got quib truffles. So, two out of three digits in a circle are true and must appear in one of the four surrounding squares. And the third quibbling digit must not. The third quibbling digit will match its position in its box. Okay, that's interesting. Uh so the example is if the 8 in a 289 is quibbling. I don't think there is a 289 in here. So it's just a random thought process. So anyway, if the if the eight of one of these things is quibbling, it will be in the position eight in the box read from left to right top to bottom.
So every single box has its positions 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 and 9. So in the case that if the eight was the quib, it would go here essentially is what they're trying to say. Uh anyway, and going back to the first thought process that this is a 147, so we know two of those are correct. The third is our quibbling digit and it'll be in whatever position that the uh that that digit is in its box. So, looks like a fun puzzle. Again, might be a little bit difficult. List three. We'll see what that comes to, but let's get at this thing. Link's going to be in the description below. Just looks like a fun puzzle. So, we're going to do it. Let's get at it. Okay. So, I think what we have I mean the the center cage is probably or cage the center region is probably the most obvious place to start here because we have so much information on it. But really I think at the end of the day what we need to be looking at let's let's let's just use this as an example here and we'll come back to you.
This is a one seven and a nine right in this and we know that one of these will definitely be a one because we know we can't put a one uh in the quibbling spot because then it would be well I mean we can put it in the quibbling spot but it can't be the quibble because we know that the one is going to be either here if it were a quibble or it's in this thing. So the little dichotomy of that it's like a negative constraint I guess is the best way to put it. So I guess the better way to say it is that if this uh quad sees the position of one of those digits like the eight also is this one then that one has to be correct cuz otherwise it'll break the quibble uh rule set. So we know there will be a one in here. We know there will be an eight in here that kind of situation. And then we can we might be able to just deduce that the seven or the nine is going to be the quibble. So they will go in one of those two. The three or the four will be the quibble here. So it could go in one of those two. We've got to find something that's going to start to differentiate those. So let's go to our middle. [clears throat] Now we know there will be a two in you.
Going by the same logic and oh actually and we know there will be a four in you, don't we? Cuz we know the four would be in this position. So it can't be quibbled. The two would be in this position. can't be quibbled. So the eight is the actual quibble cuz we know two of them are true, one is a lie. So if we know both of the two and the four have to be in here, the eight is the quibble and the eight will go here.
Okay. Now we also know Yeah, we also know that this has a two in it as well because this is the second position. So the two has to be shared between these guys. So it'll go in one of those. 1 2 3 four. There will also Okay. There will also be a five in this because [clears throat] this is the excuse me this is the fifth position. So the nine has to also be the quibble. 0 the nine. Now that tells us that the nine is currently correct in this guy.
[snorts] And I guess I should just put these in five cuz we know it's going to be there. and the four because we know it's going to be there. I didn't want to kind of cloud up all this by putting that stuff in there. But um the seven has to be in this position.
And see now the thing with the seven is there does not have to be a seven in this cuz this could be a seven. That's the quibble and the quibble goes here.
So it means it's not part of you but it is part of you. So, we have to kind of make sure we're not uh using false logic to try to push a seven into this position. That's what I'm trying to get at, I guess.
Um, now we Oh, we also know there's a Okay, got to get everything going in the same part of my brain. There's going to also be a four in this. So, we know the four has to go down here. And we know there's a seven in you as well.
So we know the quibble for this guy's got to be the one. So you're the one. So actually we have both of these quibbles are going to be the ones because the one is now cuz we can't put the one here cuz we have the four and the seven.
We know that the one is the quibble, but then you also have the one as the quibble. Okay. So now that does mean that the one is the quibble. So the seven has to be in this region as well as this region. So you will be the seven. That means you have to be the two and you have to be the four cuz that's all that's left of our markings. Okay, that came together fairly well. What are you guys? Three, five, and six. And we know one of them is a five over there.
[clears throat] Now the question is going to be how do we use this information to maybe expand our horizon?
>> [clears throat] >> Well, I guess the first thing we can say is that this can't be a nine quibble because the nine sees it. It's almost like it's a slight disjoint uh type of situation going on here.
And [clears throat] it's not going to be like a full disjoint cuz we don't have those two guys seeing each other necessarily. But it's a curious little thing to think about in that in that way because we know we can't make the nine as a disjoint for this entire or not disjoint as a quibble for this entire region. And we know there's a nine up in this uh quad. We know that the nine has has to be in the quad. So therefore, one of those two will be the nine. 2 3 4 5 Okay. And the six also has to be in here because this is the sixth position. So the seven will be our quibble. So you're the seven.
I guess we can put the six in here as well.
Let's keep going through some of these restrictions. The one here is going to do the same thing over here cuz we can't quibble the one. So one of these has to be a one. 1 2 3. The four can't be quibbled because it has to go here. So there's going to be a four in this.
Which means the seven is their quibble.
So, it goes there.
Good. We're making a little bit of progress here. Um, I'm going to kind of stick with these ones that we have digits. Uh, looking into them. So, kind of avoiding these for just a second.
Well, I guess the seven looks into you cuz the seven can't be quibbled. So, we will put a seven here. None of those can be sevens. So, this one can't be quibbled. So, there will be a seven over here as well.
Um, but anyway, I was going to try to get back to maybe this grouping because we know the eight here can't be quibbled. So, it will go in one of these two.
[clears throat] We already know there's a nine up here and a nine up here. So, one of these will be a nine.
I wonder if we need to think about this column in some fashion or not. Uh, we know the eight's in here. What about the three or the six? So I guess we don't know either one of those cuz the three would be you. The six would be you. So there's no givens on those.
Okay. What about you? The four can't be quibbled. So it will go here.
The again the three and the six could both be quibbled cuz three and six.
Okay. So we might have to branch out somewhere else now. Do we go back to you start putting some of this? cuz maybe we have some X- wings going on here as well that we can work through.
The one, the seven, and the again the seven, the nine, we don't know about.
The eight we said had to go in one of these.
We don't know anything else about that one. So, I don't know if we can do anything up here at the moment.
The five can't be quibbled. So, we'll go down here.
The two and the nine, we could still quibble both of them because that could be a two or that could be the nine.
Oh, we know there's a seven up here. We said that because of all the work we did here. Well, we also Oh, no. We don't know there's a four or a one, do we? I thought for some reason I was counting wrong, but the one and the four could both be the quibble. So, that's not good. We already used you to get our quibble.
We know there's a seven. Oh, we also know there's a one in here. Okay. Just have to go around the block here. So our nine will be the quibble which means you are the nine. [clears throat] Now did that that does come back up here and say you can't be the nine quibbled for here.
So we do know there is a nine on you. If that's the case the two has to be the quibble. So you will be a two.
Good.
And what else does that tell me? Or do we need to think about you can't be a nine.
[clears throat] You can't be a quibbled nine and you can't be a quibbled nine because the nine is looking into this corner. So these two both share a nine. Well then that has to be you.
Um you could still be equivalent nine cuz I could stick the nine here. We can't get there yet to oh the five. Okay, there it is. This guy it will have a five in it because 1 2 3 4 five. Now, the five obviously doesn't go into that position, but uh we know there's going to be a five. So, the two has to be the quibble cuz again, two truths and a quibble.
So, you are the two.
Now, do we know about the one or the seven? I don't think we can cuz the one could quibble or the seven could quibble.
So, I don't know if we can go further with that one.
H. Okay. Um 3 4 6 2. Did this. Maybe there's some sedoku we can use here.
One of those will be a two.
There's a two. Okay. There we go.
Perfect. Yes. Tunis. None of those are twos. So, one of these will be a two. We get an a just sedoku of twoification. This is going to be a 28 pair. you will be the nine.
And now well three and oh we can go now we can use the the column cuz if we know this is a 28 we can't put a six up here. So this is a 3 six pair. You have to be the six.
You have to be the three which means you're not the six. So you will be a three five pair.
The three and the five. Okay. That's perfect because that removes the three as being quibbled from this region. So, we know the eight isn't. We know the three isn't. The three will be in one of these two. So, the six has to be the quibble, which means you're a six, which means you're not.
This is then just a 6-9 pair.
Cool.
And that Oh, we already knew the seven was the quibble. Okay, let's try to find something else now. Do we have anything else left up here we could do with some of our columns?
One, two, three, fours. No. Well, I guess we know there's a five down here as well as the three.
You know, the six up there, the seven, eight, and nine. Okay, so the one and the four are still kind of up in the air there. So, uh, let's keep going. Where can we now find some place to look?
Cuz what did that six That six had to have helped us somewhere. Or both of these sixes, right? In some fashion.
Problem is you still don't look at this guy. So I can't remove my quibbling.
Uh so was there anything up here? Maybe.
We already know the two is up there. The one could go anywhere.
The four could still go anywhere.
Five is there. Six is there. One of these is a seven.
That's all we know. Okay.
7. Five. Okay. There's got to be some other quibble we can find in here now cuz I don't think [snorts] Well, I guess we can say there's a one in here.
Might do a little quick look at Sedoku.
Maybe that'll help us find the next step.
Oh yes, there it is. The two quibble.
You can't quibble a two in this region now. So there has to be a two in you. So you will be a two. That means you are the eight and the two.
Good.
Now, oh, we already knew there was an eight in here. I just never put it in. So we know the four is the quibble. So you will be a four.
And we know one of those two will be our eight.
Does that get us going anywhere else?
Good question. Oh, the eight is just a given here.

Okay. Uh, let's keep going with our sodoku cuz that actually helped me point some stuff out there.
Twos are just there's a two right here.
One of Okay, this is a 142.
Let's put all those in.
And you couldn't be the four. I think that was the only rest. And you couldn't be a two, right? Okay. So, if that's a one, two, four. These are what? Three and five. It looks like.
Okay. Again, I'm waiting to find another quibble we can work with. We know there's a seven up in here.
Oh, the four. There it is. got to keep jumping back and around looking to use each of the digits we find. We can't quibble the four anymore. So, there is a four up here. So, the one is our quibble. So, you will be the one. I'm going to put the four in here just to do it. Now, that one's going to get rid of you and say one of those is a one and one of those two will be a one.

One, sevens and Okay, what else can we do? Fours and sevens. We already know the two is the quibble. Fives and nines.
I think we're good there.
Problem with a lot of these pencil marks, it makes it a little bit harder to see, but hey, we'll get through it eventually.
All right, what else can we do? Did we go back to our Sudoku then?
I don't think we have any more we can do on the ones. We already know one of those is a two. We know those can't be.
We know one of those two is not helping it yet. Three doesn't really look all that useful. Oh, yes. Three is useful.
Again, I didn't use it. We can't quibble the three. So, we know there's a three on here and we know there's an eight on here. So, the four has to quibble. So, you're the four. That's the case. Now, the one is left in this position.
Good. That four says you Oh, let's just do the one goes down to make a four. You can't be a four. So, this is a one two pair.
All righty.
Now, the one is given the seven or the nine is quibbled.
I don't see a restriction on one of those yet cuz the seven Oh, wait. Yes, I do. The seven can't be quibble cuz this one's seeing the seventh position. So, the nine is the quibble, which means you go into nineness. You will be a 38 pair.
That means you can't be nines, which means one of these two is. That's going to give us the six and the nine.
Good. Good. And good. Uh, do we just start thinking about cuz we know again we know one of these is the seven we said. So that will come back here and get rid of you and put you into seventh hood.

Uh, where else do we go now? Ones, twos.
We need a four in this thing somewhere.
I guess it can go anywhere. Did we finish the quibble? Yeah, we already quibbled you with seven. Let me go.
Let's me do a checklist here just to make sure we've used everything or whichever is left over. We've quibbled the nine. We've quibbled the four. We've quibbled the seven. We've quibbled the one. We've quibbled the two.
The four we already know of.
We can't say the three or the six yet, I don't think, here. So, this one is still outstanding. Let me put a yellow mark on it.
We've already done all of these in the middle. We've already quibbled the seven.
One, seven, and nine. I don't think you have been finalized yet.

That'll give us the one four. Yep. Now, it's all broken apart. Okay, cool. You are five. What are you? You're going to be a four to finish. There we go. Is all the puzzle solutions correct? So, um only 53 solves in four and a half days.
That's not a ton. It did have a little bit of trickiness to it. I guess you got to kind of wrap your brain around how uh the puzzle works with the the two truths and a lie or two truths in a quibble, if you will. Um but really fun. I really enjoyed that one. Um [clears throat] yeah, so obviously this middle region was kind of the one that set everything off. Uh where we could make some pretty good deductions about what is and isn't the truth and lie. And then we just had to kind of pick off from each one of those to start removing the options of of a quibble. And then that'll start pushing the rest of these over and over again. So fun puzzle. Really enjoyed that one. Uh hope you all did as well.
