Proper leash guidance(negative reinforcement ) empowers soft dogs

[00:01:01]So, Winnie has no motivation for food, no motivation for play, and she fought all the basics, the sit, the down, the place, like just fought it, and there was nothing there, right? So, everything was taught with light guidance. She has on a Joel Silverman collar that hangs loose down low, and it's just gentle guidance in the direction I want her to go.

[00:01:32]That, once I started adding that, and I started asking for those behaviors, right? That opened up her desire and drive for food. Then she started taking rewards. But I'm still teaching things this way because it's better for her.

[00:01:50]And it's making her feel more confident, right? She didn't have the the most confidence out there when we were doing things, but now she's starting to get it. She fought the down really hard. And if anyone knows me, I've preached in the past, I don't force the down, right? And of course, I didn't force it, but I wanted to show her how she could better her situation.

[00:02:13]Where people screw this up is they'll ask for the behavior that the dog doesn't know really well, and then they'll correct them with the leash for not doing.

[00:02:24]Not the same. I do that with her one time, she's done, right? She's She's my little sweetie. She loves the attention, she loves the affection, right? But at first, when I did start asking for the down, which I didn't do right away. It was several days before I worked on the down. At first, I only worked on sit, even that she fought, and place, right? Now, I just started adding the down, and it took it took a good minute the first time I asked for it, and she fought it and fought it and fought it.

[00:02:56]Water resistance. Now, if I would have just kept pressure on that leash down, she would have fought it really hard, but I don't use straight-line pressure.

[00:03:06]It's just little guidance, little taps, and the second the first or second or third time, like several times in a row that she even attempted to give in to it a little, I praised and released that. And then very quickly, it started coming. Now, it's starting to build up very nice.

[00:03:51]People get stuck with the food and trust me, I use food and I teach behaviors through luring, right? But for a lot of dogs, it's not the most beneficial way to do things, right, sweetie?
