The Boys was doomed all along | Angry Rant

[00:00:00]Oh, it's finally done. The boys have now finally concluded and come to its long awaited death. And as I already predicted before, it's an absolute travesty. It really has been a journey seeing how much backlash I got from criticizing the show. Like my Tik Tok and Instagram comments have been filled with people suffering from chronic copium addiction. But just as it happened with Stranger Things, the finale drops, is terrible, and then the people will eventually 180 on the whole thing and instead claim that I am late to the party of criticizing it because the show has always been bad. I guess in my field of work, that's just part for the cause at this point. So, the finale starts with the boys burying Frenchie after his incredibly empty death in the last episode. Already in the first few minutes, these writers perfectly showcase just how bad writers they are.

[00:00:48]the knowledge that I have seen each and every one of your [ __ ] >> Excuse me.

[00:00:54]>> Anus jokes. Really? Does that feel fitting for this moment? The dude is dead. One of the main characters and like one of the main main characters for the entire show. And you cannot go through even a single scene to honor this character without the kindergarten joke mandate to kick in. Starlight then tries to comfort Kamiko and Kamiko gets super [ __ ] mad about this. Why? Well, because we need Butcher to figure out that Kamiko needs to be angry for her powers to kick in, despite how unreasonable it is for Kamiko to be mad at Starlight for [ __ ] comforting her.

[00:01:25]Then we get a scene where Homelander finds Ryan. I mean, we have previously been shown how cautious Ryan is about getting found, but now he's apparently spotted when flying around. Sure.

[00:01:35]However, I do find it interesting with Ryan calling out Homelander. Like, I enjoyed the idea of that. There's a lot you can build on over here in terms of bookending Ryan's relationship to Homelander and what this relationship means for the two of them. Both Ryan in terms of moving on from him, as well as Homelander being vulnerable in a way that he usually isn't. But unfortunately, these writers are not skilled enough to write any subtext in here, have it reveal something about the characters, or be poignant in any thematic way. It really is just Ryan saying, "Haha, loser." And then Homelander being Big Sad. But there's at least an interesting idea in here.

[00:02:11]Yeah, that's where the bar is, ladies and gentlemen. Since I try to be as fair as I can in my reviews, despite the show being horrendous, I have to give credit where credit is due. And this is an interesting idea.

[00:02:23]Cool. Next, we catch up with Annie and these two girls. Now, being someone who hasn't seen the spin-offs, these characters really feel like they just come out of nowhere, and I almost thought that I had missed some scene or story line about them because they're just here. Like, I just feel like I don't get what their significance is whatsoever. But they have a scene where they try to make a thematic point about Starlight and Mave's relationship in the beginning of the show and how you should never meet your heroes. And here again, this show perfectly demonstrates its lack of skill in writing meaningful dialogue because this line >> I don't know about never meet your heroes, by the way.

[00:03:00]>> Yeah, that's enough. We get the point and it's a pretty nice way to phrase it as well. You can stop right there.

[00:03:05]>> It worked out okay for me.

[00:03:09][ __ ] sake. Then we have a scene with Scream Man and Professor Quirrel and the dialogue gets even worse.

[00:03:16]>> Oh, don't get me wrong. I am honored to be writing Homelander speech, heralding the coming of our new lord.

[00:03:24]>> Don't get me wrong. I am honored to be doing the speech for Homelander for this purpose and that purpose and all of these different things. Professor Quirrl is trying to see if Screamman can flip on Homelander as she's trying to get help from Voldemort, but gets no response.

[00:03:38]What the [ __ ] ever. Next, we see Kimiko being big sad next to Frenchie's grave.

[00:03:43]Then Sage goes over to rage bait her and try and see if they can trick her into using her newfound powers. Now, they knew that it would potentially remove the powers of whoever would be attacked by this blast. So, if you're going to remove some powers, why not do it on someone who has a bit more insignificant powers, say, I don't know, butcher. I mean, having the superpower of intellect is like the most overpowered superpower you can have. So, isn't that like the last one you would want to remove? All right, I forgot that Sage is dumb as [ __ ] so this won't change anything.

[00:04:16]Carry on. But in all seriousness though, Sage's power is that her brain regenerates. So removing that shouldn't make her dumb. Like that just doesn't make any sense whatsoever, man. So then they make their plan to break into the freaking White House. Probably the most heavily guarded building in America. And they also acknowledge how impossible this is.

[00:04:37]So, but I still got the blueprints from last year. And we did protection for singer.

[00:04:43]>> Are you kidding me? They say this and then just move the [ __ ] on. They can access the White House. Are you off your head? But then Sage says that she doesn't want to come and she leaves.

[00:04:58]This is hilarious. Here you've had a character who's seemingly the smartest person in the whole world despite frequently making dumb as [ __ ] decisions. Her big plan before was that she would end the world so she can sit and read in peace because she can't [ __ ] do that anyway. Her role has been so dumb. It's insane. And this is how you end her. She goes, "See you."

[00:05:18]And then leaves. Wow, what an ending.

[00:05:20]Then we go to the White House and we get more hilarious political satire. But then Scream Boy mentions Butcher's Lab and that they have potentially replicated Soldier Boy's blast. And Homelander just says, >> "You think I'm afraid of William Butcher?"

[00:05:34]>> Like, I can't emphasize this enough.

[00:05:36]This kind of childish writing is so [ __ ] icky to me. The writers think that evil people see the prevention of being overpowered as a sign of fear. You [ __ ] kidding me? This is the same [ __ ] that we get in The Last Jedi.

[00:05:49]The First Order and Kylo can easily send out an entire fleet of TIE fighters and destroy the resistance, win the war, and end the movie, but instead they send out four ships. Why is that? What? Do you think Kylo is scared of the resistance?

[00:06:04]He's an arrogant [ __ ] My god. And people wonder why modern movies are failing. But then the Deep and Scream Boy argue whilst Homelander throws a guy to space. What? Homelander flew a guy to space and back within like 4 seconds. He just flew at light speed. Do you know how much it [ __ ] with all physics if a dude flew at light speed? Or was it that he just threw him to space? Then why was it that he flew up for a few seconds if he was just going to throw him anyways?

[00:06:30]What the [ __ ] But then Homelander is just doing a rose session of the deep and both of these actors are showing how far they've fallen since season 1. Yeah, it's sad to see. But I guess with, you know, with a script this bad, there isn't really that much you can do as an actor, is there? But the boys prepare to break into the White House and they bring their absolute best weapon. A weapon whose efficacy have been shown again and again and again and again and again and again and again. And they just go through the tunnels without a hitch.

[00:06:59]not even being sneaky or discreet or anything. Hu is even walking around and cracking jokes super [ __ ] loudly.

[00:07:04]>> Smells exactly how I thought a secret [ __ ] tunnel would smell.

[00:07:07]>> Dude, shut the [ __ ] up. Then they are closed in and shot at. Now, I do like that we see Huie and MM be like covered by the soups. But they're so [ __ ] dead, man. There's just no way that they can fully cover Huie and MM over here.

[00:07:22]Especially not when they're being [ __ ] up by this whistle thing. And especially not when MM is the guy who helps Kimiko out. Jesus [ __ ] Christ. It's just like Fallout all over again, man.

[00:07:39]And Professor Quirrel is running towards these guys. And that's when Voldemort comes back and tells her where to go. So apparently Voldemort doesn't only have mind readading abilities, but also like I don't even know what to call this power. Just being able to know where they are. What is it? Like echolocation.

[00:07:57]Voldemort's a [ __ ] dolphin. Then Voldemort says >> proud of you, [ __ ] >> There you go. Arc done. How great. They then run into the deep and Starlight flies away with them.

[00:08:10]Yeah, I'll get to it. Scream boy then uses his scream to blast open the door and everything in the room flies away.

[00:08:15]Okay. Damn. Now we know that his screams are like shock waves and not even doors can hold them back.

[00:08:22]But the following sequence is so impressive in how batshit [ __ ] crazy it is. So Huey and MM needs to lure Screamboy away from Kamiko and Butcha.

[00:08:32]Then Huie sees that the fire alarm in this room is one that releases a non-toxic gas, but that will prevent you from seeing through the entire room. And that's actually a pretty clever move to try and lead Scream Boy away from Butcher. If it wasn't that you triggered this via shooting it. Okay, I get it.

[00:08:48]This is a movie trope, but oh my [ __ ] god. For starters, shooting it would realistically do one of two things. One, destroy the device, so no gas is released. Game over. Or two, hit the canister of compressed gas above, which will essentially turn it into a bomb and explode everything in the room. Game [ __ ] over. But then they impersonate Butcher's voice, and Scream Boy just blindly follows that through the fog, of course. So MM and Huie are running away, and they just run into his room.

[00:09:18]All right. Then instead of trying to run further, they just wait in his room.

[00:09:24]Here he just stands there with his gun essentially being a sitting duck for no [ __ ] reason. But then MM finds this ball gag that was introduced earlier.

[00:09:32]Now MM has no idea that this is a specialmade one made out of Kevlar and the likes. So he has no reason to think that this would do anything special to Scream boy scream. And of course MM is luckily not seen by Screamboy as he enters the room. And MM then takes it and holds it in front of Scream Boy's mouth as he's about to scream, which I don't understand because that's obviously not going to do anything given that Scream boy scream is like a shock wave that blasts open [ __ ] doors and flings away everything in the room. So, the only thing that's going to happen from this is that it's going to propel MM forward and have his face hit the back of Scream Boy's head. Or the more likely option that the force is just going to rip the ball gag out of MM's hands. So, yeah, I don't know why it is that he's doing this.

[00:10:18]Dude, they literally just copied one of the dumbest deaths that's ever happened in superhero media. Like, virtually nothing about this sequence makes sense.

[00:10:26]But also, what the [ __ ] is the point to this? That's the end of Scream Boy. That character had so much screen time throughout this entire season, and you just end him just like that. What a [ __ ] joke. Speaking of meaningless deaths, Annie lands on a beach with the Deep. So, let me get this straight.

[00:10:44]Annie flies deep away from the White House to a beach, which from my research seemed like it would need to be like 40 or 50 miles away. Why did she fly that far away? [ __ ] knows. Why did she land on a beach when she knows that the deep can control water and sea animals? [ __ ] knows. This really is the weirdest and dumbest decision for Annie to do. But then they have a cringe dialogue where Annie just goes, "Hey, Deep, why don't you stop being evil and following Homelander?" And then Deep just goes.

[00:11:10]But then they have a fist fight where Annie tries to punch him for quite some time. I don't know why she doesn't use her blasts. It's like a really effective power. As long as you don't blast him into water, given that that is where he is going to be the most powerful.

[00:11:25]Oh, great. But here we get the ending that we all saw coming. And despite being bulletproof, he is not impervious to a blunt [ __ ] tentacle piercing through his skull.

[00:11:35]Great. But this is the thing. They've been so on the nose with the oil setup in the past two episodes that this ending is just so insanely predictable.

[00:11:44]>> I'm so sorry.

[00:11:46]>> What?

[00:11:50]>> Who?

[00:11:52]>> What? What?

[00:11:53]>> Say her name.

[00:11:56]>> What?

[00:11:58]What? Wait. The octopus he killed in season 4. That's why they're doing this.

[00:12:03]How the [ __ ] do they even know about it when he killed her in his room? Funnily enough, he killed her by destroying the water tank despite her being able to survive without water for quite a substantial amount of time. But how do you set up the fish killing him for the oil incident only to have the same outcome for a completely disconnected incident? What the [ __ ] That's the end of the deep. One of the very first main characters of this entire show. They've had nothing to do with him for four seasons and now he just dies just like that. What a [ __ ] joke. But back in the White House, Kamiko and Butcher now storm the Oval Office. And the reporter runs out and arbitrarily just pushes the camera over as he's running out. I don't know for what reason, but it is of course very conveniently framed so that you're going to capture the very important information later, but this entire fight is so [ __ ] bad. For starters, that Butcher's tentacles are strong enough to throw around Homelander, that Homelander can laser through Butcher's tentacles like [ __ ] butter. But Butcher himself is not affected whatsoever. That Ryan shows up at the perfect timing out of [ __ ] nowhere. This line, "Everyone dies starting with you."

[00:13:10]Okay, dude. And then Kimiko conveniently has a vision of Frenchie saying, "Rage is not what makes you strong."

[00:13:16]>> Oh, okay. So, we just changed this power out of nowhere. It's already lame that the power you're going to use to kill Homelander was more or less introduced just in this episode. But then they backtrack on that power level in the same [ __ ] episode. And this is what ends the conflict that has been going throughout the entire show. So Kamiko removes the power of Butcher, Ryan, and Homelander. So that is how the plot ends.

[00:13:42]That's it. I uploaded almost nothing for 2 and 1/2 months to binge this show and this is how it all ends. What a sick [ __ ] joke. So, of course, the writers wanted to have a >> Homelander is pathetic >> moment. And it is so [ __ ] childish and forced.

[00:14:00]>> I'll [ __ ] suck your dick, please.

[00:14:02]>> Eric, never write anything again. Please. I [ __ ] beg you. He keeps begging, then Butcher stabs him. I actually cannot believe this. This is what it all led to. Five seasons and billions of dollars, and this is how you conclude it all. the V1 story line that was the center for this entire season. [ __ ] redundant. So then after this, we see that Professor Quirrel has gotten arrested. What the [ __ ] do you mean? All of the [ __ ] that Vault and everyone has publicly been exposed for doing throughout all of these years and nothing has happened to them. But Homelander begging Butcher and the company's [ __ ] done really. A Butcher then has a sit down with Ryan. And I like this scene. Ryan calling out Butcher is quite strong. I didn't think they would actually have the balls to have him do that, but it makes quite a lot of sense. Despite the heart of Butcher, Ryan recognizes that he's still a pretty bad dude. So, that story beats I like quite a bit. Then, Terror dies somehow. And this makes Butcher flip completely. Why? Why was this what pushed him over the edge? Why does he want to kill everyone because of this?

[00:15:09]Is this not just a coincidence? I also love the logic of him removing the super sensitive virus from the glass packaging just to bring it. It was already super sensitive within that package, but he took it out for no [ __ ] reason. So, he leaves it behind and Huey through a freak coincident just finds it. Huie then concludes that Butcher has gone to Vault Tower, which I don't understand how he comes to that conclusion, but sure. But we then get our final confrontation in between Butcher and Huie. And honestly, in a season that's been terrible and in an episode that's been terrible, this sequence I'm quite fine with. There is something to be pulled from the idea that all soups need to end because Butcher is right. As long as there are soups, there will be another Homelander at some point. The only issue is how shallowly they tackle this idea in this scene. And to be honest, in the entire show, this will still kill Annie. It will still kill Kamiko. Something that neither Butcher nor Huie brings up at all. None of them discuss of whether the good that the soups do weigh up for all of the bad things. But this is also one of those moments that get emptied because of how they have written the creation of these things. In my last video, I did bring up how frustrating as a viewer it is to see them make these crazy [ __ ] viruses with just household items. Them just casually getting Kamiko the blast power in this random lab. When all of those things happen, that ruins a moment like this because it makes it all feel so super. All soups die. Who cares? Since these things can be made so easily, it'll all come back at some point. So though they tackle an interesting idea, they do it so extremely shallowly. But the actual fight in its choreography and directing, I like quite a bit. Sure, they have a few moments where they're just standing there and allow themselves to be punched for no reason, but mostly I quite enjoy it. Especially comparing to the horrific fights we've had only in this episode. But Huie shoots Butcher and Butcher dies. It's an all right scene, but in a show that would have a strong or even okay storyline leading up to this, this could have been a very powerful moment. Unfortunately, that's not what we got. We then get a funeral scene for Butcher, one that feels tonally way more fitting than whatever [ __ ] we had for Frenchie in the beginning. Then Miko looks at them, goes by, and then [ __ ] off. Like, I'm not even kidding. Five seasons of being a very tightlyk knit group and working together and she just goes say we see that Ryan goes with MM. What? What makes Ryan want to stay with MM? What the [ __ ] And right after that MM also gets right back together with Mon'nique.

[00:17:42]What? He just gets to go back after all of the [ __ ] that he put them through throughout the entire seasons. He just gets to go back just like that. It's also so funny because we see Kamiko in France and I couldn't help but feel that usually when we see scenes like this, I have the thought of, wow, imagine what this character can do and where they will go now that the show is over. But since we know close to nothing about Kamiko, I can't even think like that because there's just nothing there.

[00:18:07]Finally, we see Huie and Annie are running a little audio visual store.

[00:18:10]They keep listening to the police radio and Annie keep fighting crimes, but they're going to have a kid now and Take care of your mom, Robin.

[00:18:24]>> They're going to call it Robin. How How [ __ ] insane is this? You're going to name your kid after your dead ex? What the [ __ ] But that's it. The boys is now concluded.

[00:18:39]What a tyrannical [ __ ] assault on her eyes and ears. What a creatively imprisoned [ __ ] plane crash of a show. Like I I've never seen anything like this. Seeing a premise of this caliber be decimated to this degree.

[00:18:56]Taking the Discord server of a group of boys in the third grade and then paying billions to distribute it all over the world, then charging us nine bucks with ads to intellectually pressure cook our prefrontal cortex. shallowly copying statements on Twitter, then running a marathon away from criticism via hiding behind the very [ __ ] concept of parody. In actuality, yes, this might actually be worse than Stranger Things in terms of an ending. I mean, in actual quality, we're comparing apples to apples over here. The finale of Stranger Things is bloated beyond belief, and the finale of The Boys is rushed through with no focus whatsoever. And I mean, season one of both shows are quite all right with the rest of the seasons being [ __ ] abortious. The only difference in between the two is that season 4 of Stranger Things had some things going for it. And also that the style and energy of the boys being so much more immature and [ __ ] cringe. And a lot of people are trying to say that the endings in between these two shows are comparable to the fall off of Game of Thrones, which I don't even think is possible given that Game of Thrones was genuinely quite [ __ ] brilliant for almost half of its run. And the peak of both Stranger Things and The Boys is only for one season and it can't even reach halfway up to Game of Thrones's level. So that fall is just not going to be possible to match ever, I think. But anyways, I'm done.
