Welcome to Friday, TGIF. It's the 8th day of May 2026.
When tragedy strikes, Windly knows to contact Grant Lawson and the law firm for truck safety, fierce advocate for justice in fighting for safer roads around the USA.
Visit truckaccidents.com to see how Grant and his team can make the difference. Well, we're in between waves today.
Some of you had some rain over the last 24 hours. That was good to see. And uh certainly duck weather in some locations. And we have one more of these, northwest flow waves coming through and results really are going to be quite similar. Although there's going to be a slightly more eastward shift of where the heavier showers will be compared with the system yesterday afternoon and last night.
But some of the same areas that picked up rain over the last 24 hours might get a little bit more. Then as we get into Mother's Day, we're going to see high pressure move in and Sunday, Monday, and the Tuesday going to really warm up.
Where it was wet, it'll green up as temperatures will get well up into the 70s and the 80s in many areas.
So it's going to be quite warm for the first half of next week. The snow will just be a very faint memory by then.
Very low confidence in the forecast after Tuesday. Um so we're not going to even go past then. Uh we're in a transition phase, that big low up into Canada, the developing El Niño, uh models are all over the place. So let's just concentrate here on the next five or six days. When we talk next Sunday, we'll hopefully have a little bit of a better idea of the of the weather a little bit further out. How about that for a scene?
Carol sends this in up around the Happy Jack area, Tie City cross-country skiing area, had to wait till May to really have any decent skiing. Crazy as as sounds, but that's how the season has gone, but boy, look at all that beautiful water-laden snow there.
And uh if you look real carefully, you can see the ski trail going on through there. Of course, by afternoon, it was a much different story with the warmer temperatures. The Broomfield, Colorado, Boulder counter area down into Colorado, many areas over a foot of snow there.
And those showers yesterday began to pop up and some thunderstorms as well.
Casper was an area that got a little bit of rain out of this. And nice rainbow down there in the Pine Bluffs area where some showers were also around and could be again on Saturday.
Real quick, uh a warning to dog owners up there. There is a cat in this photo.
Does anybody want to find the cat?
Look real carefully because I'm going to the next slide. Okay, as we look at the satellite photos this morning, doesn't look like much. Here's that wave that came through yesterday afternoon and last night and early this morning, there are areas of showers and thunderstorms with it as it's heading southeast. The next wave that's coming tomorrow is back up into here.
And that's going to follow the same path behind it. So, in between waves, it's going to be a nice day. There is very little happening today. You can see the wave coming through at noon today. It's uh next one is up around Vancouver. You can see the deep low in Eastern Canada.
And by noon tomorrow, so noon today, noon tomorrow, you can see where that next low is coming through. A very similar path. And if we look at the 500 millibar vorticity, where the air is spinning and rising, and out ahead of it, that's the one thing here where you see the colors, the rain isn't under the colors, it's just ahead of the colors cuz this is where the air is going up. So, as the air goes up ahead of this wave, this is by noon tomorrow, you're going to see showers and thunderstorms develop. So, here you are. These are the lightning strike predictions for Saturday afternoon and the Saturday evening. So, we're going to see some showers and thunderstorms up here in a very similar area we saw them yesterday and last night. As we get into some deeper moisture, going to have an active area of showers and thunderstorms in western Kansas down into Oklahoma and west Texas and parts of Nebraska. Let's hope that this produces some rain and even a little bit of isolated shower and thunderstorm activity back in the four corners region. So, you can see the trail.
And there's just a little bit more eastward shift. So, we're hoping the Pine Ridge Black Hills area around Lusk and Douglas and Casper and Buffalo can get some moisture again up around the Gillette area, maybe up around Billings.
And then there may be more rain falling from these clouds than the the model is showing. Models don't do really good at predicting thunderstorm rainfall. So, you just kind of want to look at where the precipitation prediction is. After this, after tomorrow though, we're going to hit a stretch for several days where there won't be much. This is for Mother's Day Sunday. So, you can see a large part of the west here on Mother's Day Sunday, there's really not going to be much going on except where that little wave's going to be producing heavier shower and thunderstorm activity over southeastern and eastern New Mexico and down into Texas. If you look at temperatures, Saturday's going to be a little coolish in the blue areas as you can see behind that wave with the clouds, the showers and thunderstorms, but you see all the warmth west of the divide. So, once this wave gets out of here, this western warmth pushes eastward and there you go.
Temperatures go up and the temperature anomaly is getting pushed out into the plains and the warmth is going to be coming in. Hence, all of this warmth is what's going to be coming in Monday and Tuesday. So, here are your temperatures at 3:00 p.m. Mountain time on Mom's Day.
Pretty comfortable.
We've certainly had colder Mother's Days. We've certainly had warmer ones.
Uh you can see some pretty good Chinook winds up here in Canada, sending temperatures well up into the 70s.
And you're going to see a lot of 60s, lower 70s, and then down into Arizona, desert heat building.
This desert heat plays a bigger role later this month into June. We'll talk about that when we start talking about whether or not the monsoon is going to be off to an early start or not. As we get into next week, here we are on Tuesday. So, high pressure's overhead. We're going to be very warm. Notice the deep low over Hudson Bay is not as deep, and it's kind of getting ripped apart a little bit, going a little bit more up into here. Is it gone?
Will it finally be over? No, I'm not so sure yet.
Um getting some hits on the European model, it could have a resurgence. So, I'm not quite saying this is gone yet, but going into next week, it's weakening. So, we've got lows here off the West Coast. The question is, are they going to stay off the West Coast or get directed up to here?
Or are they going to come into here?
Don't know yet because I have no confidence in the modeling past Tuesday.
So, stay tuned. We'll have more for you on Monday. In the meantime, happy Mother's Day everyone this upcoming Sunday. We'll see you on Monday.
