Biblical scholar Dr. Robert M. Price argues that Plato's Timaeus and Greek philosophical traditions, particularly the myth of Atlantis and the transition from the age of Cronus to the age of Zeus, significantly influenced the creation narratives in Genesis, suggesting that the biblical text may have been compiled from multiple sources including Greek philosophical works rather than solely from Mesopotamian traditions.

Was Genesis COPIED from Plato? The Evidence Will Shock You
Added:[Music] hmm [Music] so [Music] hello may i speak to the divine hi derek how are you hey russell i'm here with dr price right now and uh we were just mentioning your name on this recording and i've got the camcorder going and we were just talking about uh genesis and i wanted you to tell tell him and the audience the title of your upcoming book oh okay um i thought are we live right now we're not live but we are recording yes okay well um the title of my upcoming books is plato's command and the biblical creation story uh cosmic monotheism and i'm gonna have to try this again oh you know what i it's a tough one gary okay well listen this uh th that part of the recording is a little is going to be a little bit uh not suitable for workplace okay because i'm climbing out of the bathtub look we just thought about you i'm walking to my computer to actually read the title i told him it was a paragraph okay so let me see here uh and my webcam is you'll be thankful uh not on awesome they knew that they were naked and unashamed yeah they knew they were naked and unashamed everybody knew that i was naked and i guess you guys aren't saying we'll leave with it you know who told you that you were naked well my wife did but uh you know it was in a very nice way so okay here we go there we go i suppose i should uh have a cough up before i start this but i'll try it and see if my voice laughs uh you know it's the whole derek lambert curse so um so the title of my new book is plato's timaeus and the biblical creation accounts cosmic monotheism and terrestrial polytheism in the primordial history and it's a mouthful but it should capture the interest of uh of readers oh yeah especially readers like dr bob oh yeah yeah we thought about you you're a legend and um you know we've lost too many good legends in recent history and obviously we want to do more with you i want to have hangouts more with you and talk but we were just talking about prometheus and genesis and we wanted to ask you because i know you're not allowed to give too much information about the book until it's published but do you tackle prometheus and zeus in this do you go into that being a parallel because everyone loves looking at the mesopotamian connections but how often are they looking at the greek ones yeah i do um i do deal with that somewhat um and in my book i talked about basically two ages uh in the primordial history in the garden of eden it very much corresponds to the age of chronos which was a pre-technological age where uh the guard cronus lived with uh humanity and ruled them directly and to tell them like their shepherd tends to his flocks and uh the earth sprang forth uh lush vegetation and uh in plato statesman um you know the uh people were naked and unashamed and they could talk to the animals and everything just like in genesis but then uh the rest of uh primordial history from genesis or through let's say genesis well through modern history i guess is it corresponds to the age of zeus which um which was a technological age because um the guards basically abandoned humanity they wouldn't live with them anymore and uh so the uh the humans were on their own prometheus showed them the arts of civilization otherwise they would have perished and so during the asus there's lots of technology you see that in genesis chapter 4 with certain inventions going on and yes so i do address that whole transition from the pre-technological uh paradise and the later technological age of civilization and kingdoms and violence and uh you know a zeus having to end the world in a flood hmm dr price yeah that is uh really fascinating um the uh i especially like the uh parallel between the uh the god prometheus and and uh the serpent who might take to be uh uh and and so forth from the serpent god in the temple and all that that's oh just so so unbelievably interesting yes i don't deal a whole lot directly with uh prometheus per se but i i do mention him a few times and and definitely um that whole greek uh background isn't there running through early genesis it's fascinating all the greek connections you know my book is going to bring out specifically connections with plato's timaeus and receive described the origin of the cosmos as it was fashioned by the demiurge or craftsman god and and also uh i deal with tributes which is the story of atlantis and how uh you know when uh you know the gods once lived with humans and uh had uh offspring by uh the daughters of humans and uh then eventually uh you know the world became corrupt so zeus had to end it all in the flood and there's just remarkable uh parallels with uh early uh genesis you know genesis one through nine and uh my book will uh bring out those connections with the miss of atlantis uh do you mention aquaman i'm just just kidding i don't i wish i could [Laughter] that's probably how a lot of people know anything about atlantis and of course it's all false but well you know i'm it's it's incremental at this point i just want biblical critics to know about and be forced to discuss atlantis okay yeah i want to do parallels between aquaman and the submariner from the two different comics i'm kidding of course oh boy sure appreciate you taking the time your your work of course is amazingly fascinating and enlightening and we're glad to get a a a forbidden glimpse of the latest one happy to give you a teaser yeah that we can consider this the trailer to my book okay yeah yeah i'll hand you back to derek look uh we're pretty privileged to see you naked today and um you know the audience didn't see you naked but we got to see you naked but you did you well good that all your benefits now i i do notice that dr price is turning to stone right now so i'm wondering if you have medusa so that's why i'm feeling so sore all the time he's starting to hurt what did you do um no but uh this is so interesting russell and i want to do upcoming shows with you and dr price and hang out and learn from each other and teach the general public get people reading that book when is that book coming out do you have an idea at least well i'm still doing the final edit based on peer review feedback from the some people that the publishers get a hold of so i expect me to send out the final draft in march and probably it will be published i imagine in the fall okay good wow great yeah that's good well thank you so much russell and i hope your voice heals after my curse of calling you so yes well uh have a great day i'm glad to have chatted with you and i'm going back to work all righty thank you thanks bye bye dr price he's an awesome guy yeah what do you think about that well in on this last note what do you think oh well just incredible as i always do with his work it's just astonishing stuff i mean i thought i had heard it all and then i read the borosis and genesis beneath oh in exodus and holy mackerel and he has uh uh shocker and the same thing with the plato and and the i forget the title of that one plato's timaeus i think or the plato in the creation of the hebrew bible yeah yeah yeah yeah amazing he just spins and he went into the laws so what i love about him is he's not just a guy who writes his books he actually is interacting with people on these sites that i see like on facebook someone posted someone who's talking about the hammurabi code yeah there's a scholar who's specialized showing how the bible uses the yeah and then american comes a wonderful book american says but he only focused on that and i wrote in my plato in the creation of the hebrew bible how much more the biblical narrative has in common with the athenian laws than it did with just the hammurabi code so i can't help but either think two things the compilation of the pentateuch that we have is over different times different people different publishers using different sources all right or you got one or two options it happens collectively like the documentary hypothesis says over a period of time by different people in different places right that's the first one i just mentioned i'm just reiterating the second one is there's a place that has all these collections in one place yeah of course alexandria library yeah or something like that and that is where the sources are being drawn from collectively using multiple sources this is why you have greeks or greek influence in genesis plus mesopotamian influence in genesis babylonian obviously influences then all of a sudden it's real weird and you have a syrian influences here you have all this so either you have collective data that's been taken over long periods of time from different regions that they've kind of collected over time documentary hypothesis ish or you have a place that has all of that in one locale and brilliant men came together and pieced this thing and said let's do it you know i don't know there might be something in between there but i'm just thinking like well as he points out in this uh article by him we had in the journal of higher criticism the latest issue uh he shows how you really uh sacrifice nothing from the classic jedp theory and all of that stuff with velhausen and so on if you adopt this idea that it was a bunch of people with their favorite sources coming up with a kind of a compromised uh text which is why there are contradictions they they weren't at liberty to just cut out this creation story or that flood story so how we gonna get them in and as a result you have like incredible redundancy in the flood stories and once you disentangle them which is pretty easy to do you see you got two complete different flood stories that have been stitched together and you can figure out why because it says at the end of both of them i think that well one thing i can promise you earthlings i'm never going to flood the world again well if you just put one after the other somebody's going to think god promised he's not going to flood him again and then turns right around and does it so they can't do that so they uh like the creation they they could kind of do that and it doesn't take a whole lot of rationalizing to say uh that they both fit together but this it wouldn't have worked how about the three stories of uh the patriarch lying about his wife being his sister uh they they're so similar that they they got to be variations of the same story but somebody would have been grossly offended if their favorite hadn't been in there and so how to mask the fact that they're the same thing well they just space them apart with other material in between even though the result is un intentionally funny because uh according to uh some of the other material like sarah is uh 90 years old when abraham thinks the pharaoh is going to see her and say huh i gotta have this gal this hottie to my grotesque uh but uh if they didn't think of that that was the only way to get it all in i mean it makes so much sense yeah and you don't have to go into these elaborate ridiculous theories 90 years doesn't mean the same it means to us or or they lived so long 90 was like she was uh 18. you know so ridiculous you're defending the bible by coming up with nonsense like that you're making it look ridiculous uh the critical approach is the one that's friendly to the bible thank you dr price [Music]
