Where in Jamaica are you from?
>> Awesome. I think my boy Christmas list, I think you've been there before.
Bam, so what do you guys specialize in?
What's the best thing on the menu?
Our jerk chicken is at the top of the line.
Why do you say that? Because the the smoke the the it's jerk with the smoke wood.
And it gives it the nice taste like, you know, the Cuz I'm the type of person like Christmas is he puts hot sauce on everything like it's ketchup. I can't handle hot sauce at all, but sometimes some spots have jerk chicken where it's not too spicy and I like that. Is that what yours is similar to? It's it's mild. It's in between. It's edible.
Every everyone loves it because it's not too spicy and it has a little kick to it. Make us kitchen bam food review. I was telling her how jerk chicken I don't like spicy food. As you see in Christmas is he always puts lots and lots of hot sauce on he loves it hot like that. I can't even can't handle the smell of hot sauce it just makes me So I told her I only like a mild jerk chicken. Sometimes I have it from places and it's dope like that. So she gave me a sample. Very kind of you.
Respect if you guys ever come down to Brampton go to that spot and check it out and see what's popping.
And let me get a review and see what's popping. Let's see what the first bite's like.
Mhm.
It's not so bad.
Well, let's ask the expert.
Cuz he's a connoisseur more than me.
It's like she said it has that light smoke.
Nice char.
Bussin.
What does that mean?
Proper jerk chicken. Mhm.
Dope.
For my non-Jamaicans the food is really good.
Mhm.
Yep, the smoke like she's talking I can taste the wood.
No charring.
Mhm. Mhm.
Awesome.
Well, that's my review.
Two thumbs up.
Black and white.
Remember like my favorite saying? It's like KFC's daughter, finger licking good.
But now, I'm cheating like KFC's daughter.
We are treasure hunters here to share our wares. So, if you shop the spoils you better beware.
These treasures are not for everyone.
Only those who dare to pay the pirate's price or face the pirate's glare. I like that. Live in Brantford? Yes, I live in Brantford. How long have you lived in Brantford?
30 years.
How do you like Brantford? I like Brantford. It's a pretty good city.
What's the best thing that you find about Brantford?
Everything about Brantford is scenic.
You really enjoy being here. Awesome. I like being here.
Appreciate you. Thanks. Live in Brantford? Yes, I live in Brantford.
Now, you know, Black Canucks, I'm all about history. You know, I like buildings, I like architecture, I like the past. And that's basically what the Black Canucks channel is all about, me going across Canada and documenting Canadian history and Canadian past. And this, I think, by far is one of the most legendary spots so far on Black Canucks.
This goes worldwide because today we are at bam!
the Bell Homestead, where the telephone was invented.
On July 26, 1874 Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. And this is where it happened. This is the Bell Homestead.
A little write-up about it right here.
I don't know how many Canadians knew that or how many Americans know that we invented the telephone.
Did you know? Leave a comment below if you've known about this information.
Or are you seeing it for the first time on Black Canucks?
I guess this is the home.
I wonder if this is what it looks like inside though. I don't know if you really go in. It's probably closed, but I'm touching history.
Hm.
You're touching history. You know how you touch history? Hit that subscribe, hit that like, hit that share. Tell a friend, Black Canucks. I show you content that nobody on YouTube shows you.
I guess this is the write-up.
And it just finished raining. I love that smell of wet grass, fresh air, >> [sighs] >> and history.
So, there you go. That's the gist of the matter.
I don't know what this building is.
Thomas Henderson, General Agent. Bell Telephone Office.
These are the spots.
Very dope.
Doesn't get any more historic than that.
And with that being said, I think it's time to introduce my brother from another mother, my brethren, Dwayne.
Cuz he's the host of today, showing us around Brantford. Dwayne, say hi to Black Canucks people. What up, what up, Black Canucks people?
That's my day one, Dwayne.
That's why I was so irked in that video with Chris and Sizz, and the guy's talking about Parkdale. Like, me and this guy used to live in Parkdale together for the longest time. Veterans.
He heard about that, he was like, "What?"
I said, "Yeah."
But yeah, he's going to he's going to give us a full guide of Brantford. You've lived in Brantford about how long now?
Uh, I'd say about 15 years, 16 years. How do you like living in Brantford?
It, uh, it's, uh, a good place to live.
Uh, don't really have the hustle and bustle of the city that I somewhat miss, but don't miss.
Uh, standard of living is a little bit more cheaper down here than, uh, most major cities.
And, uh, it's a good place. You can find good work out here.
There's lots of things to do out here, closer to beaches.
Um, just different things, you know?
Awesome. A lot of farms out here, too.
So, a lot of, uh, instead of going to the grocery stores to buy your fruits and vegetables, you can go to the main source, the actual farmer, which is a bonus, too, in, uh, the summer months, spring months.
What part of Brantford is this that we're in right now?
Uh, this is Mount Pleasant. So, is this like the northern, or southern, or eastern?
>> This is, uh, West Brant.
So, this is where, um, a lot of your influential um people with money tend to live.
Because it's like Is that the only Is that the only historical site site around here? No, it's not. We're going to go see some other ones. Okay.
Like you were saying. But, um This is where your influential people with money live.
Again, a lot of big homes.
You're You're You're still in the city, but it's a little bit rural.
It's the best of both worlds. Yeah, I come noticing there's some big houses, but they have a lot of land behind them.
Yeah. A lot of property. And some of them even have like it's like a house suburban house, but with like a farmage attached. Yeah.
And then I guess out in these outskirts, that's kind of standard if you have a big house. Yeah.
But, are they necessarily working farms or they just have a lot of grass to cut?
Uh some are working farms.
Some it's just land that the person's holding on to to uh sell to developers.
As you can see, there's a lot of new development here.
Um Brantford is one of the last booming cities in Ontario where there's a lot of new growth.
Welcome to the Mohawk Chapel. So, this is one of the write-ups. This says here the chapel was built by the British Crown in 1785. It was a gift to Mohawk First Nations who, under Joseph Brant, supported the British during the American Revolution.
Her Majesty's Saint Paul's Chapel of Mohawk was built by the loyalists John Thomas and John Smith, who also came from New York.
Bam.
And that's it right there.
I love history. I just love history.
Because it's an essence of where we come from and what happened before us.
And who knows, maybe one day, thousand years from now, they pull up our archives and see the Black Canucks channel.
Pull it up. History.
We're making history and this is it.
So, it's like a really majestic building.
I say it's like How high would you say that is? Like 30, 40 ft up?
40 ft? Yeah.
Ah, it's grand.
Thing I like about some of these places too is we don't have smell-o-vision yet, but like this [snorts] wood just smells like that. You know like you're walking in a old library and you can smell the knowledge in the books.
The energy.
And to think that these people walked the same path that we're walking right now.
Taking the same steps like this.
That's what blows my mind.
And it's old school and new school. They got cameras.
It's a whole area like Mohawk? Cuz I noticed when we were driving in I saw a Mohawk Business Center and I saw a Mohawk Complex.
So, this like a Mohawk reserve area, per se? I want to safely say yes.
>> Okay, awesome.
So, I guess a lot of the natives live around here, Mohawks.
Um yes, we do have indigenous people living around here.
>> [music] >> I know it's around here.
Sorry, I'm not really that knowledgeable on these kind of things. I'm kind of Googling and looking up the information as I go, but it seems like there's a lot of historic value in these areas.
I'm just guys getting a gist of it.
Like I always say in my channel, we're learning together because this is the first time I've been here. As I learn, you learn. And that's the beauty about Black Canucks. As you read here, this says this is the tomb erected in the memory of Captain Joseph Brant, principal chief and warrior of the Six Nation Indians by his fellowship subjects, admirers, and his fill it out. Oh, I don't even know what that says. Whatever, Google it.
They can Google it and figure it out.
But yeah, it's a thing.
On to the >> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> This building here, what are these buildings? This is the Supreme, I mean the Superior Court building.
Brantford Club. What's this right here?
This is our city hall.
That's Brantford city hall. Yeah. Wow.
Ontario Court Justice too as well.
What's that? Yo, there's a lot of historic stuff around here. What's that?
What's this?
This is the Ontario Court Justice Province's Office of Defense.
City of Brantford. Bam.
At Wellington and George Street.
This building to me, I don't know if it's just me. Leave a comment below if you agree with me. It looks kind of like Apocalypto, Mad Max, you know, like those doomsday like that kind of architecture.
Once again, I know nothing about architecture, but that's how I perceive it. Does it not look like that? Look at it. The sharp lines.
Remember in Superman when he went in the ice and he pulled out the ice and all the ice went up the It was like that.
Very interesting looking architecture.
It's another historical building.
Land Registry, so I think this is where you have to come to register your land.
This building look at See, that's what I like, the design, those bricks on the top.
Like if I would build a custom house, I'd love it like this.
Do you guys know how old this So, you guys live in Brantford? Yeah, we're from Brantford. How long have you guys lived in Brantford? My whole life.
Born and raised? Born and raised. Do you like living in Brantford? Yeah, for the most part. Yep. What do you like most about Brantford? It's quiet.
Now, like like with every city, there's ups, there's downs. What are the downs about living in Brantford? Uh You get all kinds of kinds.
All kinds of >> kinds of people. Oh, like a mixture?
Yeah, you have variety.
You know? There needs to be more supports in place, like like stronger Support for? For for people in general, for for society, for support workers, >> [clears throat] >> stronger performance. We need people who love doing their job in the job because they like to do it.
>> Oh, she's saying there's people here, but it doesn't seem like they take their jobs seriously or that they're passionate about it.
>> Right. And >> can't put a smile Like it's it's smile is free. So it's kind of like the people who need the support aren't getting the proper support.
>> that Yeah, right. And the federal government doesn't want to like >> And the people that are in >> right. Or the people that are actually in the jobs doing these types of jobs are kind of seems to be like some of them are forced to just do just for a >> They do it just for a check. Right. And it's like The compassion's not there.
Yeah. And that's what people really need.
>> Exactly. And you have There's going to be a lot of bond a lot of Like the human connection.
>> Right. As then as a human being they'll do I guess >> get And you know what? You This is a big one for me. I've noticed a lot of times going to store and a lot of through these other support service groups through library, they don't even ask you for ID. They don't ask you for ID. They don't ask you for >> Nothing. And I'm going, "You're giving away properties, [Β __Β ] How do you do that?" Like cuz you're Or you're you're getting you're paying for the rent. It's kind of like it's loose.
>> do you Some of these people have been getting first and last paid or some of their utility bills paid How are you doing that without checking and verifying who the hell they these people are?
And right, it doesn't make sense.
>> Yeah, so like you What you're saying they need >> some proof of income. There's got to be some proof of uh More accountability. Right. Right.
And there hasn't been. So I can't >> What year do you think this building was built though? It's like >> 18 something?
>> 1870s.
1868. Is there a lot more of these buildings around here?
>> If you go around to the other side Yeah.
where security takes The other side is the old jail.
Somewhere around this building in the brickwork [music] like you may be able to see like some kind of like you know what I mean in the stone it'll say like >> Oh, like a like a a stamp. Yeah. Okay.
Yeah, I think there should be more accountability for us security. Like better start with >> is this is the This used to be actually the This is where they like uh the reason why they wanted to keep this building and they wanted to actually uh preserve what was inside of it because they actually, they hung natives up in the gallows. In this building?
Yeah, in this like not in this building.
>> to execute natives in this building?
>> Yeah. This building?
>> Yes. What What's this building called?
It This is like, um, it's like, um, high court.
Okay. High court and then just on the other side if you go around Yeah. to the parking lot on the other side. That parking lot, that whole part is is the actual jail. Oh, dope. All the history in Brantford.
And I I feel like, especially like Hamilton, because my friend he lives here, so I'd come here and just go to clubs and parties and just night time.
Night time I can't really see these buildings, but it was like one I remember one time I when I slept over his house during the day I was like, let me just walk around and I was like, yo, there's like a and like look what like he said. And what's that? That looks like a Abraham You go again, you see like the details, the detail and all the details of this stuff.
Supreme Court of Justice. So, like my guy was saying, this is where they used to hang I don't know why well, he said they used to hang natives.
I don't know if they hung people in general, but he said natives, but this is the spot.
