But why aren't there any penguins in the Northern Hemisphere, even in the Arctic? Looking at a map of their habitat, it seems as if they're stopped [music] by some invisible boundary. It really does exist, and it's the Equator. For penguins, the Equator is a natural boundary they never cross.

Thus, these birds became the best swimmers of all winged creatures. [music] Scientists have even found the remains of ancient giant penguins in Antarctica, taller than a human and weighing over 100 kg. Penguins live in a world of cold, and equatorial waters are deadly for them. The water temperature there is too high. There is almost no suitable food, and penguins' bodies are simply not adapted to such conditions. Furthermore, penguins have no large land predators in the wild.
