Will Choke Canyon fill UP ?

[00:00:01]Hi everyone. Welcome back to the channel. Today we're taking you on a special pre-flood drone flyover of Choke Canyon Reservoir in South Texas.

[00:00:11]This massive lake on the Frio River has been struggling through historical low water levels.

[00:00:17]Sitting around 8% as of today, the exposed shorelines and old creek beds and landscapes that hasn't seen water in years.

[00:00:27]But change is coming.

[00:00:29]Flood waters and increased flows are heading down the Frio River and we're capturing this moment right before the water starts rising.

[00:02:33]>> Choke Canyon was impounded in 1982 and can hold over 660 thousand acre-feet at conservative pool.

[00:02:43]That elevation is 220 ft.

[00:02:46]Right now, it's hovering around 179.

[00:02:49]That's 40 ft below full pool. It's a stark reminder of the ongoing drought challenges in South Texas.

[00:02:58]Choke Canyon is and downstream Lake Corpus Christi are critical for water supplies for the region supporting cities like Corpus Christi. With rains upstream sending waters down the Frio, we are hoping for a boost. Though it may not fill the lake overnight, every drop helps after these historic lows.
