Choke Canyon Reservoir in South Texas, impounded in 1982 with a capacity of over 660,000 acre-feet at 220 ft elevation, has been experiencing severe drought conditions with water levels at only 8% capacity (around 179 ft, 40 ft below full pool). The reservoir and downstream Lake Corpus Christi are critical water supplies for the region, supporting cities like Corpus Christi. Upcoming flood waters from the Frio River are expected to raise water levels, though it may not fill the lake overnight.
