When solving arithmetic expressions, multiplication and division must be performed before addition and subtraction, following the BODMAS/PEMDAS rule. For example, in the expression 42 - 7 + 9 * 2, you first calculate 9 * 2 = 18, then perform 42 - 7 = 35, and finally add 35 + 18 = 53.

ArithmeticAdded:
Work out 42 - 7 + 9 * 2. We can do here BODMAS if you remember from school days, BODMAS or PEMDAS.
All I'm saying is before adding or subtracting, we do the multiplication or division. So, 9 * 2 is 18. We have 18 here.
And here we have 42 - 7, that is 35.
So, 30 + 10 is 40, and 5 + 8 is 13. So, it's 53.
That is our answer, choice A.
